Thanks to my toolmaker apprenticeship I actually understood that, even the alignment bit. That’s where my abilities end though, you are a very skilled craftsman Jeff, well done.
Thanks, never to old to learn, I started off learning from RUclips videos and reading, bought myself a lathe a number of years ago now and here we are. Thanks for watching.
I used a Lothar Walther barrel blank to turn a .177 caliber Benjamin Marauder into a .20 caliber. I left two baffles out of the shroud to get 2.7 inch longer barrel for better efficiency. I machined the bolt from brass to make it obvious that it was not a stock Marauder. The hardest part was making the fixture to hold the magazines for enlarging the inside diameter for the larger pellets. The result is my best Marauder. I now have a complete set of .177, .20, .22 and .25.
Definitely the best airgun channel there is, I wish you good health and a long life and make us many more such educational videos. This is a masterpiece and keep these videos separate in case you happen to disappear from the RUclips platform. I enjoy each of your videos. Thank you for your time and effort to the general benefit of AG fans. One question, isn't there an easy way to center a barrel bore ? Greetings
Thanks mate, I appreciate that, its good to hear people are really enjoying the vids. As far a centering the barrel bore there are a few ways to do it quicker, but barrel bores are very rarely perfectly straight they normally have some bow or bend to them, not massive but its there, and to be honest 90% of the time its never a problem, but in some cases where the bend is more pronounced it can cause you issues if you don't account for it, so we use the bell chuck to measure and align the bore with the axis of the lathe, but this barrel could have been chucked in the 3 jaw and just machined straight, this one was not out far enough to worry about, but some barrels this is not the case, and i wanted to show it for the video. Thanks for watching. 👌
Wow absolutely awesome work and no brass transfer port 🤯 👏👏 talk about serious skills 🙌 To say I enjoyed that would be a understatement, absolutely top draw from start to finish, I can't wait to see part 2 now and how this turns out 👌👍 atvb 😁👍
Absolutely brilliant as usual jake , you've made a rod for you're own back as everyone will only except perfection from you're channe now but it's just 2nd nature to you mate .
I ordered a .357 barrel and will be machining it soon. I saw that you machined out the rifling on the breach end. My question is on how to create a smooth lead for the pellet. I am thinking of using a reamer for a standard .357. Can you explain what you did on your barrel to get a transition from the smooth part you turned to the rifling? Thanks
Hello, do you have a preference between the LW Poly barrels or Std LW 10 groove barrels? I want to strictly shoot slugs. Also, would you recommend using a choked or non chocked barrel for slug shooting? Cheers
Awesome skills as usual Jake! It's always a pleasure to see a skilled craftsman (that knows exactly what he's doing) at work, and a perfectionist at that! Some might ask 'why?' and I'd ask, why not! It's always good to have alternative options, especially if you have a spare barrel that's known to be good waiting to be used 😉👍
Hello, I have a question: do you also custom-make barrels on order? I need a new barrel for my FX DRS PRO 700mm. I'm looking for a LW polygon 5.5mm barrel for heavy slugs, around 35gr.
Do you make barrels for other rifles besides the FX impact I have an aea 30 caliber bullpup I was thinking of getting another barrel but it would have to be mailed exactly the same so it can fit back on my barrel kind of looks like that as far as the breach but the portholes I have six portholes all the way around the barrel and a reason why I'm asking is because I have like a 7-in group at 50 yards and I'm thinking the barrel is not good what do you think or do you guys do something like that if I were to send my barrel and have one remade if you guys don't do it if you could recommend someone who does something like that thank you that is awesome to work on barrels looks very professional and explained very well thank you
A 7in group is no good, you may be better off going back to the manufacturer as that sounds like a manufacturing fault, but unfortunately we can't do barrels for people as we don't have an RFD licence so cant transfer barrels. we appreciate the interest though, Thanks for watching.
You definitely made that very hard work for yourself . Would it be much easier using the life centre those barrels are very straight but I wouldn’t worry about the outside not being perfectly concentric because with a live centre it will be all done from the bore.
Probably, but doing this way we guarantee everything to work, the 1/2 unf will be 100% parallel to the last 40mm of the bore, eliminating any possibility of clipping with the shroud or moderator, and the pellet will be fed concentrically to the rifling, and while most barrels are straight they are defiantly not all made equal. We don't do hundreds of these and for me its a interesting job that I like doing, so I don't mind the back and forward with the indicator. Thanks for watching.
A barrel blank can be anywhere between £70 and £150+, then is cost to get in machined so depending on your gunsmith and what he has to do it will be another £50-150. But it all depends on who you get to do it. Thanks for watching.
No idea to be honest, depends on how complex the breach is, if you are having accuracy issues before having a new barrel machined I would take a look at the breach and crown, just make sure there are no burrs and that you can push a pellet through it nicely, and the pellet looks clean with no scrubbing of lead, then you could always have a little go at polishing if you want, a lot cheaper then having a barrel machined up. Thanks for watching.
Hi there good afternoon! I would like to know how can I get one of these barrel please let me know or if you please make me one and let me know how much it will cost me thanks I'll be looking forward for your answer
Do you shoot fac air ? I am about to get a Raw HM1000x that will become fac . They have a lw poly barrel so should be good out of the box but I am thinking a match grade rimfire barrel for shooting slugs at rimfire weight and speed . Or should I just leave the factory barrel as is .
We don't shoot FAC, but the Raw should be great out the box, a poly barrel is usually better for slugs, as some rifled barrels can tear the lead of the pellets, you would probably be best off trying it out the box and seeing the results, and going from there, but I am not much good with FAC stuff so I can't help unfortunately. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video can't wait to see the results ... did you go to school to learn those awesome skills or you kinda just learned on your own thanks for sharing bsafe buddy 👍
This one is easy because of the gear box, you can select thread pitches using some levers, but you still have to change a gear to go from metric to imperial unfortunately. I had the WM180 before I got this one, whilst a bit of a pain to change the wheels you can cut threads successfully on them, my 180 had a list on the gear panel with the gear order and position for the corresponding pitch, the 1/2 UNF is a 20 TPI so just look out for that one and you should be able to find the gears that cut that pitch. thanks for watching.
Thanks, we don't make the brass piston anymore, they are a pain to make and we could not really see any great benefit from them, the only thing you gain is they last a little longer but they still need cleaning up after a little while. Thanks for watching.
Its more of a test, many people moan about the FX liner system so we are just making a solid one up for RUclips and we will test it, we hope for a more accurate barrel with better consistency and less pellet fliers, but we will see. Thanks for watching.
Nice to watch a guy who knows what he's at !. Do you make these barrels to improve on the standard barrels ?........... if so would you ever be tackling a 600mm HW100 for the FAC version and puttig a walther barrel on one . ? It would be interesting to do a comparison between a standard .22 FAC barrel and one of yours .
They, in our experience, are a little better then the STX liners but its not a night and day difference, and for FAC, people seem to really like the STX liners, they won most of the bench rest competitions this year over rifles with the LW barrels, but unfortunately its not something we can do as a service. Thanks for watching.
Original Lothar walther barrels No branding " Lothar Walther " and " Register number " on the barrel right ? Only Stamped at the breech end. Why in my Country There is so many " Lothar Walther Barrels with Branding and Registered Number " on it ? Are They Fake LW Barrels or Orignal one ? 🙏🏼 please answer, because as I know, Original LW Barrels only stamped at the breech end ( Blank Barrels )
I'm not sure so much on barrel but I like to install a steel barrel. If i give you the money can I pay you to make one for me and I'll pay you the shipping I have a 22 cal 700mm but I'm not sure what size I need to buy.
Sorry we don't do this sort of thing as a service, we cant transfer barrels legally and it not something we can help with unfortunately. Thanks for watching.
Why not? its just a bit of fun, ultimately we want to test whats better an STX liner or a solid barrel, so we machined one up and its time to test it. Thanks for watching.
Thanks to my toolmaker apprenticeship I actually understood that, even the alignment bit. That’s where my abilities end though, you are a very skilled craftsman Jeff, well done.
Thanks, I appreciate that, the barrels are a nice job, I quite like machining them up. Thanks for watching.
Great to see a true machinist at work. Remarkable skill. Getting to be a thing of the past what with computers and stuff. Great stuff.
Love these videos. When I see them I always think I should have stayed at it when I left school. Awesome work.
Thanks, never to old to learn, I started off learning from RUclips videos and reading, bought myself a lathe a number of years ago now and here we are. Thanks for watching.
Extremely entertaining to watch a True Master at work.. Cheers Jeff!

Try to make a video on polishing the inside of this poly barrel please .
Will do, got a poly barrel that I am going to machine up. Thanks for watching.
This sounds like a great combination for an FX rifle and Walter barrel, What does this normally cost?
A barrel blank can be anywhere between £70 and £150+, then is cost to get in machined so depending on your gunsmith and what he has to do it will be another £50-150. But it all depends on who you get to do it. Thanks for watching.
