This is still my go-to video on Bahn chiao. I’m a useless Cambodian cook and being Cambodian, it’s an embarrassment🥰🥰🥰 my mum is a horribly impatient teacher, so I come to your page. You and your mum comes to the rescue every time. Thanks. xxx
So happy I found this video! My mother in law used to make these all the time before she passed away. Gonna surprise my son's father with these 💛 thank you !
Thank you Ming! I made this last night for a family get together, it was great. I added little shrimp like my mom in law and in the batter just added some salt.
Hi, I am looking at your videos. I grew up with my mom cooking Cambodian food. Unfortunately, I never learn how to cook it. So thank you for making the videos and teach me how to make traditional Cambodian foods. YUM!
Im so glad i found your chanel. It is really nice of you to share your reciepes. Thanks you. After we watched your Banh Chiao video. We decided to make some too. It was so good. My five year old daughter ate 3 of them.
Cambodain pancake. Ming, you are very good cooking Khmer food, even though you live in ar me rech. Thanks for the recipe ming. Be healthy and keep cooking Khmer food.
I like how your mom doesn't want you to mix it up in the plate for the video, lol! I do both! I agree that it's more authentic to eat it with a big salad leaf! :-)
My family never get bored eating them. I wonder why hahahaha. If its possible can u ask your mom is there a way to make the flour instead of using from the package. That is just in case we dont have the flour mix in hand. Thanks her for me. She really help me a lot. I love all her recipe. They all my favourite.
ahh omg i love ur vids ..thx so much.. i've been missing khmer food lately haven't eat them for 3 years now and i understand everything u said :D thanks so much !!
My mom doesn't always do the coconut cause some of my family members didn't always like toasted coconut (crazy I know!!!) but my mom like putting shrimp! I love listening to you guys talk. Lol. But like any moms, they eyeball everything they cook!
+Moms Cambodian Recipes I know right? My mom would teach me to to cook a lot of these dishes but it's always funny to see her say in Khmer, "just a little of this, alittle that, slice it like this, stir it like this." But I'm all like, should I Even use the spoon since you're using the palm of your hand to measure?" And my mom looks at me for it moment, "whichever, spoon, hand, it's all the same." "Yes mom"
Where is your mom from? My mom is from Battambang, they sound exactly alike (accent) 😂 Too cute!! The food looks delish by the way!! Nice job sous chef! 😎
I love the relationship between you and your mom. I'm going to guess that you're from Cali? And your mom hails from Siem Reap? Just loved hearing the accents on both languages that were spoken . Much love over here in Boston!
Thank you for making a video of this. It helps me learn how to cook my cultural food. But I also I have to learn how to cook Russian food for my husband. SMH LOL
Can't say I've ever had it with Coconut. My mom usually makes it with either ground chicken/pork and shrimp. Thanks for the video and I was laughing when you said "I would've mixed it all in a big bowl and ate it like that but my mom said don't eat it like that for the video." Typical Cambodian mom as my mom would've said same lol.
I've seen that also. Its hard to say since my mom never buys it like that. She always makes it on her own. Although I know in Asian markets they have frozen shredded coconut meat. That may work better.
MSG is fine, as long as you don't use it too much. to go a bit further with your post, You don't need sugar. Sugar is gonna take over the natural taste. Garlic & Onions are already sweet when cooked. The problem with coconut is it's also going to cover the taste of spices. It's typical of Chinese to add coconut/sugar to south east Asian food to cover the spices because they aren't use to flavored food. Remember that ALL south east Asian REAL culture is "mainly" from India, NOT China.
Hi I'm from New Zealand but my main nationality is Cambodia. I am very unsure where you can buy the bann chao flour mixture. I have search many Asian shop and not seen anything like that. And my mum tends to make a different way of making that recipe. But I guess everyone has there own style 😊
Vietnamese and Cambodian language is kinda similar but means the opposite. I’m Khmer and my fiancé is Vietnamese and the food is basically the same besides the actual Khmer traditional dishes for monks
This is a Cambodian version on Vietnamese Banh Xeo. That's why the name of the dish is pronounced in retaining Vietnamese name. If you travel to Thailand, Thai people like Vietnamese dish called "nem nướng" in Vietnam and it becomes "Naem Neung" in Thailand.
Your mom is lovely and sweet. Anyone is lucky to have a mother like that. Cherish her. Love her Khmer accent.

Thank you Ming! I made this last night for a family get together, it was great. I added little shrimp like my mom in law and in the batter just added some salt.

+Protocall13o2 Yeah. Real chefs eyeball everything. Unless your probably baking then I can see how that would be different.

Are there any other sauces that would go well with banh chiao? My in-laws are white and they don't like fish sauce.
+channet1130 You can barely taste the fish sauce.
try using the sweet chili sauce. you can thin it out with water.
How do you make the sauce?
What about the sauce? My husband's uses that red fish sauce? recipe for that?
Maylene Meas We have the sauce uploaded on our channel.
Cambodian food is so similar to Vietnamese food. It's almost identical. Even the word Banh is the same.
Tloc103 what else is the same
Because it originated from Vietnam
[banh] it is vienam word. cambodian call 'banh chiao' because they use vietnamese term for this crepe. cuz it create by 'southern vietnamese'
Vietnamese and Cambodian language is kinda similar but means the opposite. I’m Khmer and my fiancé is Vietnamese and the food is basically the same besides the actual Khmer traditional dishes for monks
most of the popular Combodian dishes is actually from Vietnam.
