    Dostal was a beast for Czechia in the world championships and was really good for Anaheim this year he just had a very bad defense in Anaheim

      I think the ducks will still be a bottom 10 team but will progress a lot

      Which is the same argument I've had for John Gibson for the last 5 years. The team just isn't sound defensively, and Gibson has had to pick up the pieces every. Single. Time. Until the Ducks can get a Neidermayer like defenseman this team is, like you said, a bottom 10.

    • @peeph0le
      @peeph0le 3 месяца назад +1

      @@MoreMallards I think that’s fair. I predict that the offense will break out this year with Leo, Cutter, and maybe even McTavish + the fact that Zegras will most likely have a bounce back year. 2026 will probably be when the defense breaks out but that’s my opinion

    Gudas plays his heart out to win a world cup for czechia only to be called Russian on youtube. The disrespect is total. 😂
    Jokes aside, the big steps in the forward group will come from Mactavish, he has several steps in him. Gauthier has promise but it will take a few years, still beter than what they had. Last and the biggest change is gonna come from Carlsson if he play the entire season. He's the best 18 year old I've ever seen play hockey (Granted I've missed Bedard pretty much, and too young to have seen Crosby, Ovechkin play juniors) and a future hall of famer. He was among the best players in Europe regardless of age at 17. He's still growing while beating records set by none other than Peter Forsberg.
    I think with no changes at all to this team in 3 years we will see a deep play off run.
    Also Dostál is the real deal.

    I feel like you’re about a season too early with your assessment. but I do understand your ideas outside of thinking there’s “not much hope” for Dostal who’s only 24 and been fantastic at every level he’s played at. I think McTavish and Zegras both have much more to give. Zegras finished the season healthy and just under a PPG, McTavish was on pace for a 10 point improvement from his rookie season. Health was a big favorite. Every single one of their core young players missed significant time due to injury. Carlsson looked like a bonafide star most nights. This is mostly my point about being a year early on questioning the ceiling of some of these guys. I think if there isn’t a decent improvement in the quality of play, I’m getting concerned.

    • @NBIHockey
      @NBIHockey  3 месяца назад

      Possibly. I’ve always had concerns about this core lacking true top top end talent but I could be giving up on them a little early. Regardless I think this is a major year for this team.

    I watch almost every ducks game, so I have some opinions based on what I've seen with a healthy dose of homer bias.
    Everyone loves to hate on Zegras but our powerplay was worst in the league with him out of the lineup. His biggest value to this team is not goal scoring it is puck possession and playmaking, which was conveniently what the ducks lacked the most last season.
    Leo reminds me of young Getzlaf, and if Cutter can be the finisher we hope he can the pair of them can be the next generation version of Duck's Getzlaf/Perry combo.
    I think Leo and Z have higher potential this season than Terry, whose best season benefited from playing on the wing with a retiring Ryan Getzlaf. Terry needs a playmaker to max his output, so maybe he and Z get paired back up and let Leo and Cutter be the core of the other top forward line.
    Lundestrome is underrated in your assessment in my opinion and I can't imagine Ross Johnston playing nearly as many games this season for the big club. McTavish is a huge question mark as he shows flashes of greatness some nights and spends others sitting the box the whole night for the most undisciplined penalties.
    As for defense, Minty had a lot of success when paired with Lyubushkin, he needs a stay at home partner to shine in my opinion. Gudas should be that partner, I was super low on Gudas going into last season and am a huge fan now. Somehow managed to be a +14 on a team who only had 1 other player not be negative (>10 games played; Vaks at +/- 0 in 68 games). Fowler was -36. Put Vaks with Zelle on bottom pair for a budget version of these 2 and pray Dumoulin can bail out Fowler's Swiss cheese approach to defense. We also have decent depth in Luneau and Lacombe when/if they are needed (I expect Lacombe be be our 7th to start the season and swap in for Zelle regularly and when we have injuries)
    Lastly the goalies, Dostal and Gibson are both starters in my opinion but for different reasons. John is an athletic goaltender who will make the majority of the tandem's highlight reel saves. Lucas is a much more technical and percentage based goaltender.
    If the defense allows a lot of low/medium chances (35+ SOGA) Dostal is who you want in net, if we allow fewer total shots on net but of higher quality you want Gibson in net. Unfortunately for both of them last year This team was regularly outshot and gave up grade A chances non-stop. The team has to improve puck possession and reduce the quality of the average shot against for either of these guys to be successful this season. I think on an individual talent level your rating of them is both low, if the ducks skaters don't improve their play at both ends your goalie ratings within this system is totally accurate.
    Sorry for writing a book, ill be signing copies never. Lol

      I definitely agree with most of that assessment. I've never understood the Zegras hate, but he's flashy and hockey fans seem to hate that so.

    Its crazy how everyone preficts mctavish to be 3rd line center. His one of the best forwadrs in ducks and much better than zegras for example. Its just too bad that zegras cannot really be 3rd line center bcs he cannot defende so mctavish is the only option for 3rd line. Ducks should really trade Zegras this season for proper return and next season try for playoffs.

      @@Megaerajorma Zegras is currently more refined on both sides of the puck (McTavish had horrid defensive numbers last year and had serious penalty troubles while Zegras showed tangible improvements in his own end). Z also has greater offensive upside as a much more dynamic puck carrier and playmaker, along with his ability to enter the zone cleanly with regularity and create off the rush.
