One thing I love about Mania’s OST (aside from it being absolutely spectacular) is that, for each of the returning Zones in this game, Act 1 is a more true to the original remix whereas Act 2 is Tee Lopes’ own take on the Zone’s theme (btw, out of every Zone theme you listened too, the two that returned are Metallic Madness from Sonic CD and Flying Battery from the ‘& Knuckles’ half of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles)
After watching this, I really hope she gets around to the Sonic Generations soundtrack at some point. The Big Arms boss fight track in that game is probably one of my top boss themes of all time

It was never a fan game that SEGA liked, it was a pitch Whitehead and team made after having worked with SEGA for the mobile Sonic ports. SEGA didn't hired fans for being fans, they hired developers that happened to be fans in the rom hacking/modding community before.
I’ve been a Sonic fan since I was 6 (a decade now), and when 10 year old me saw the Sonic Mania animation trailer, I was so hyped! Knuckles was playable, Mighty and Ray make it in their first game since the 90s, and they had a little series of Sonic Mania too?? I was so happy, that when the Sonic Mania game came out, I bought it. It was amazing-They took us back to the classics. Thank you SEGA, for creating this wonderful game ❤️💛💙
Most of this game has upbeat music. There are some outliers, but the whole soundtrack is amazing. Also, uh. I've never done this, but I would recommend the soundtrack of Xenoblade X.
Sonic Mania is a fantastic game, possibly the best in the serie. I am with you in that Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is a gem, my favorite non-Mario Mario Kart.

Scruffy has a great video going into more detail on this, but a LOT of Sonic music uses a combination of fast percussion and slow chord progression to create a sense of both speed and inertia. That may be what's making everything sound kind of samey.
You know what you should react to? My Singing Monsters! A fun game where you hatch monsters, breed them, and let them sing! So many different songs to react to, as well as a TON of monsters to listen to independently and such. 🎶🎶🎶🎶

100% do a part 2. This is my favorite video game soundtrack of all time. I can suggest a few more from this soundtrack: Stardust Speedway Act 2 Hydrocity Act 2 Chemical Plant Act 2 Metallic Madness Act 1 Ruby Delusions Lava Reef Act 1 Titanic Monarch Act 1 Egg Reviere Zone Stardust Speedway Act 1 And of course, I highly recommend you play it. For me, the best platformer of all time!

Hopefully at some point you’ll listen to both acts of Hydrocity zone, and Act 1 (whichever the slower one is) of Stardust Speedway zone. Those two, along with Studioplis zone Act 1 and Mirage Saloon (Kunckles’ version) are my favourites from this soundtrack.
Heard you mention 'Jackal Sniper' and clearly the Halo 2 video reached it's target audience. Hopeful to hear the next Halo game but more Sonic Mania as well!
Tee Lopes is a remarkable genius with chiptunes. If you think this OST is a banger, you should check out his work on TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. Practically every track from that game that's uploaded on RUclips has some comments calling it their favorite. The man just doesn't miss
The reason that all the themes sound similar, instrument-wise, is that it's emulating older games with more limited capabilities. At least, I think that's the case.

Hmm Mania is a close second. My favourite is definitely the Sonic Rush OST (Highly recommend it) Sonic Rush Adventure is okay..... it just didn't quite slap as hard as the original tho.
To be fair, much better versions of the beta songs exist. Jun Sunuoe really messed up and made them sound too Advance/Sonic 4-y depending on the track. Of the 3 I think Launch Base turned out the most passable.
Do you take suggestions? If so, I'd recommend giving the soundtracks to some of the Pac-Man games a listen (notably Pac-Man World 1 & 2, Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness, and Pac-Man Arrangement 1996)

Shame zones like Ice Cap, Launch Base and Carnival Night had their original atmosphere stripped away by a stupid legal battle.
