Hello! My name is Kristen, I am 22 years old, from Sacramento CA, and I am graduating in the Spring with my BA in Psychology. I created this channel for three reasons that are very close to my heart. One, to help others be able to tell their stories and be advocates for mental health, to give recovery tips and tricks to help others find the help they need, and to spread awareness for mental health issues to fight the stigma surrounding it. The more we talk about mental illness the more normalized it will be in our society and the more people will not be ashamed to get help!

I love love love make-up! everyday in school, I look like I am on my way to a party :D I really enjoy sitting at my desk for an hour in the morning to put all this make-up on. I often overdo it and I know it, mostly with highlighter though :D people say that when they are far away and in doubt if this is me, standing there far away, they look at my cheeks and if they are blinded by the highlight, it's definitely me :D

I recommend the jeffree Star highlighters. he has a lot of shades and there is a lot in the pan. yes, it's a bit pricey but it's worth it (and very reflective 😍)
I always feel like the colour of my eyeshadow is bolder on one side! I love how blue my eyes are so I always use gold eyeshadow so that whenever I look in a mirror I can just look at my eyes and have a reason to love myself.

LikeKristen personal I don't wear make. It takes to long in the morning and I don't like waking up earlier for school to do it. But that's just my opinion

I like doing my makeup but I usually do it on the weekends when I go out with my partner, of course I love the compliments but I agree with you Kristen we can just do it for ourselves and we owe NO ONE an explanation 😉
First, I love your videos so so so so so much, and I can't even describe how much you've helped me, I'm super duper thankfull🌈.
Story time: Makeup has helped me a lot. I stopped going to school because of the depression and social anxiety, and for three months I stayed at home self harming and hating myself. Then when I decided to stary going to therapy and to stay active, makeup helped me because just a little bit of highlighter could made me feel pretty and stunning. I decided that on my way to recovery I needed a routine and makeup became an important part of it because It gave me tons of possitive feelings that I'm not able to describe with words. When I was like 10-13 years old I used to think that I was super duper mature because I was like "Makeup is just a mask! You have to love your imperfections and to stop using makeup to please other people " and stuff like that, and I thought I was being the most mature living being on the Earth. Now I love makeup, I can't describe how good it makes me feel to feel like I know a bunch of things about makeup and buying beautiful makeup makes me feel super duper nice! It's helped me a lot on recovery.
I like putting on makeup when I'm stressed because there are so many steps and if you don't pay attention you make mistakes so if I'm doing my makeup I can't stress about other things it calms me down when I need to
I've been told that I'm prettier without makeup, which made me sad bc I spend so much time on it
I'm at a place where I'm against makeup and just beginning to appreciate it. I started wearing eye makeup for about a few months, but nothing too heavy on the rest of my face as I usually don't need it. I want to wear it out of curiosity, but then I feel ashamed of myself for playing with it, afraid of losing my natural beauty if I ever go too far (which I won't anytime soon). I feel torn for some reason whenever I wear it, but I know that I only do it because I always wanted to make my eyes more beautiful.
I really hate this feeling, but I should never feel ashamed of myself, with or without makeup.
I LOVE THIS and I relate to it so much lol I have had people tell me make-up is bad for my mental health because it clearly shows that I am insecure or something? But like, it helps my anxiety to sit down and put it on in the morning and it's calming for me! I wear it cause I LIKE IT for ME and no one else!
I'm seeing my GP today, in hopes of getting a referral to a psychiatrist.. I just.. I want to thank you so much for being here on youtube. You've been such a validating presence for me since I found you, and really... it's because of people like you that I'm searching so hard to find the right medication and treatment.

I completely agree. Yes makeup can make you look more pleasing to look at but that's just a matter of opinion. Other people hate it but you should never care about that. To me it's all about making yourself feel more beautiful, expressing yourself and make it feel like it's really you.
I have those days where I wear a full face of makeup to school; contour, highlight and all! Why? Because it makes me feel good. I feel more empowered so I often wear it when I have to give presentations. But there are also days like this week. I haven't even touched a makeup brush because I don't feel like need it right now.
People like to comment on my heavier makeup, 'you're cute without it don't worry. It's gonna ruin your face when you get older.' But I'm like what if I want to because I really like it and putting it on really gives me a fulfilled feeling. Most people leave it at that but there are others who like to be know-alls and tell me 'You know that there is whale fat in the lipstick you're wearing right? This eyeliner you're using was probably stabbed in the eye of an animal. Don't you care about the planet?'
Then they are surprised. I love everything about makeup accept the fact that it's often tested on animals or contains ingredients driven from animals. I always tell people.. everything I put on my face is vegan and cruelty free, that's my one condition so for me that closes the last argument for why you shouldn't wear makeup.
Now this was a whole book lol but it's a nice little story and I wanted to tell people. Makeup is awesome in every way and never feel bad for wearing it if it's for you but just try not to wear products that are tested on animals. Besides that makes it feel extra good. Wearing it and realising it's all natural and plant based 💫

I found this incredibly relatable. I must have gone through my depression beauty video phase around the same time as you did because I have that same Vice palette I never use! I bought ridiculous amounts of makeup and Bath and Body Works candles and soaps too. I have such mixed feelings about makeup since I've started wearing it less. But I've heard things from all over the spectrum. People say I look better with it, better without it, etc but at the end of the day, I just wear it when I feel like it :)
I really don't wear make up everyday but I absolutely love it! I agree when you said that make up is an expression. It's simply an art. It reflects the way you feel or want to feel that day. Now, since I don't wear make up everyday, every time I do, everybody's raving about how pretty I look or that I've started being more of a girl (since I'm usually boyish) or that I should start wearing make up because if i do, guys will line up in front of me since i'm "soooooooooo pretty", to which I reply, thank you, I love make up and that i don't care because that's not why I do make up and doing make up everyday is tiring af (in that order xD). I don't wear make up to impress people. I wear make up because it's hella fun seeing my face change. I don't wear it everyday because I don't want it to be an errand. It's supposed to be fun you know? :D
I did the same thing when I discovered beauty videos on youtube. I bought so much makeup and nail polish and now I hardly ever wear any of it!
I have dark brown eyes and tan skin so pinks look really good on me and I recently bought the Blackheart Interstellar eyeshadow collection and I'm in love with the color Moon Dust. I also just got into using liquid eyeliner and I love doing wings. Many people say I go overboard with my eyes cause I have a ton of makeup on me eyes. I don't do anything else though because I dont know how to do highlight and contour but eh I like it cause it makes me feel good.
I love you and your channel, you give me so much hope. your videos are always so personal and uplifting, you don't try to put on a huge show your just you and I think alot of us like that, I'm so happy you graduated and your making more videos. P.S. you look amazing either way.

I love makeup but I don't have the motivation or money to wear it daily. I'd say I wear makeup like 1-4 times a month at most. I definitely don't wear it to work because I don't like getting up early.. I'm lucky if I brush my hair. In my dp all I have on are brows, minimal eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara.. and a lip pencil. I really love doing my eye makeup and have a love/hate relationship with face makeup. I was an emo/scene kid in high school as well but all I wore was eyeliner and mascara. I've always had rosacea and random pimples but I was too scared to wear foundation.. I still am. I only own tinted moisturizer and concealer because I'm scared my face will break out since I have sensitive skin. I also think it's hard to deal with some things with makeup on... like when I eat, goodbye lip products. Most likely any face products will rub off my chin. What happens if my nose is runny or I sneeze? And then of course.. there's the dreaded eye booger / eyelash possibly going into my eye situation.. and I wear contacts! Ah!! So as much as I love makeup, sometimes wearing it can be a bit stressful. It definitely makes me feel confident but so does wearing my hair down and having bangs. :) thanks for this awesome vid!!
i love makeup, i am very gothic though so i wear a lot of blacks and reds. even if i'm just home alone i will get ready sometimes just to feel good about myself
One boyfriend said I looked better with makeup, another said I looked better without. I realized that even if I wanted to, I can't please everyone so I just decided not to care and wear it just to make myself feel good :)
I didn't get "into" makeup, I mean, really trying, not just covering stuff and slapping on a lip, until way late in life. It kind of makes me sad thinking about stuff I could have done when my skin was younger and my eyes weren't as droopy as they are now. But I never got excited too much about it. Then i started falling for the RUclips hype & started buying stuff with anticipation of it being much more magical than it really is. Still do, to an extent, but I keep telling myself, NO more! I have all I need! Yet... welllllll,you know.
I want to wear makeup, and I want to for me. I just want some consealer and mascara (15yrs)
I get told I don't wear enough makeup. I'll use a stick concealer for super nasty pimples and powder concealer but that was it. I recently started wearing liquid concealer and filling in my brows and wearing more eyeshadow. I like more subtle looks. It makes me feel bad when people suggest I wear more makeup. It leads me to further believe that it's just another part of me that's not good enough for people. Makeup, or lack thereof, should not dictate who we are as people. :)

I was never big into makeup. it was more just the things I did when I was like 10 like lip gloss or lipstick, light eyeshadow and maybe a little bit of powder. like I still have never used concealer or whatever. I started with winged eyeliner this year but I could never get it right and in the end, i've just dropped makeup at least for now (I'm 14). Makeup for me used to be like if I can accept how I look as I walk out the door then that's fine. I wore makeup for myself. But that first day I wore winged eyeliner to school was terrible. I ended up almost having a panic attack at school before first period because I honestly felt so..... so ashamed and I felt like i loked like a slut even though all i had on as really basic light colored lipstick and like skin colored eyeshadow and eyeliner. and I full on broke down when my friend noticed it, she didn't say anything bad but I felt like I could either be really ugly or just really slutty. So I ditched makeup, and I'm learning to accept myself. and stop living my life in front of a mirror. This was very long oops.

I'm fifteen and I started to experiment with make up. I bought things like eyeliner, foundation and a beauty blender. When I had make up on, It felt really good, because I couldn't see my acne and my eyes were really big. But then my sister found out that I was using foundation and she started bullying me because of that. I feel pretty shitty now and I am scared to put more make up on. I only wear mascara and concealer to school, because I'm scared people are gonna talk shit about me. So yeah, that is my story.😅

Oh my gosh, you're beautiful. I share a lot of your viewpoints on this. Where I live, back in my school days, you weren't considered pretty if you didn't wear makeup, so 11-something year old me started wearing it (And I did it horribly). When you started wearing makeup at that age, you were liked by your classmates, but absolutely hated by teachers and parents, whose view on makeup was basically "Be kids, don't grow up that fast", which I partially agreed and partially not. I began to clear up my mind about these topics, and began seeing that you were liked or not, even if you wore makeup, so I began to do it for myself.
PS: Your eyes are pretty, Kristen. Give me your eyeballs.
when I was in 6th grade kids started to wear makeup and they would point out girls who didn't wear it like they were abnormal. I don't know if it was peer pressure or curiosity that lead me to first wearing makeup. I can totally relate to what you went through. Regardless of if you wore makeup or not kids will always find something to talk about.
Girls who didn't wear makeup were immediately labeled as "boys" on my school, and little me did anything to make them acknowledged as a woman. I had a lot of pressure at home so I tried to at least be liked by people at my school. My parents were really strict about makeup so I remember having to skip the last minutes of classes to go to the bathroom and wipe everything off before they came to pick me.
I'm glad there's somebody else in the world who went through similar situations as me.
Personally I get complemented on my wings sometimes but usually I only get compliments if I take my glasses off but…I kinda need those to see so little bit of a predicament if I'm feeling down or just want some lovin
I am 17 years old and enjoy makeup. I do pretty good special effects makeup however I feel as if I can't wear anything normally because I have acne. It's as if it just accents it instead.
Hey Kristen. To answer your question, I would say that wearing makeup makes me feel that I control things, like a have this super power. It makes my sadness go away, even the loneliness and stress.

I love my makeup, I'm inconsistent though 😂 some days I don't wear any at all, and the next day I will bathe myself in highlighter and eyeshadow. I just really like eyeshadow, no look is ever complete to me without it. on the flipside, I dont wear foundation cause my skin is really clear and I can't find one that matches my skin tone. I like makeup because it's a socially accepted act of putting a bunch of glitter and colours on your face, also you can go out and feel your prettier self.
I like how I look with makeup but I suck at applying it, hate how it feels on my face, and I have hayfever so in summer it just smudges off so I don't tend to wear much
One time my ex boyfriend asked me why I wore makeup and he told me that I didn't need it and I told him that I wore it cause I wanted to and that I was not going to listen to him when he said not to wear it because I felt a lot better wearing makeup. Everyone I know that wears makeup ends up even more insecure than they started out not wearing makeup because they feel like they're really ugly without it. Also I don't wear makeup just cuz I don't have the time or the skill for it. Like, to put it in perspective most of the guys in the boyfriend does my makeup videos are better then me. I'm so clueless and tutorials make no sense to me. So generally I feel like makeup is a waste of time, space, and self esteem, but I know that's just my opinion.

first time i really got into make up was because a guy told me to. it never went anywhere because he was pushy and controlling but i love make up now because it feels good.

I love makeup but I just can't function with it. For some reason I get an eyelash in my eye almost every day so trying to get it out is a nightmare. I generally don't wear a lot of makeup, maybe eyeliner, mascara, and lipgloss. And even then, I usually only wear it for special occasions. Good job on the video btw. I was at a sleep over and my friend wanted me to do her makeup so I do it at the end she looks shocked "what did I mess something up?" I had asked and she was raving about how good I was with makeup the reason it was shocking was because I never wear makeup
In this video, I really like how you don't direct makeup as a "girls only" product. Nothing is said about gender in this video, and I really like that. I'm a girl, and I wear makeup for myself. I like feeling good about myself, and I like seeing myself with it on.

I dont really wear makeup it's mostly lipstick/gloss or masscara that's about it and when I do I think I like long eyelashes I think I look nice with them and I like wearing like lipstick/gloss to go with outfits because I LIKE THEM idc if u do or not.
There was also this one boy who didn't talk to me the ONE DAY I wear a FULL FACE of MAKEUP he said I was cute and invited to sit with him at lunch I said no bc until I wore makeup he didn't know I was real we were in the SAME CLASS

I'm a tomboy and I used to swear up and down that I'd never wear makeup and now I'm too anxious and scared to ask my mom for makeup because my pride is too big and egotistical oops

Since I'm a 15 year old boy I can't really share my experience about makeup, though I always wanted to see how would it look on me and how would it affect me. I've watched a few videos on makeup tutorials and that's it. It's so confusing to me lol. Still wanna try putting on makeup but heck I live in a bad country and conservative(adjective) christian family. Oh well, one day maybe.

Also yes i have been told i wore too much makeup by people in school (im in secondary school) and people have talked about me and laughed at me and tried to change who i am🌈 I dont always wear makeup but i like wearing it because it makes me feel happy and it shows who i am🦄

The whole dumb "take her swimming on the first date" thing is stigma for sure. There are a lot of awful memes with that which show girls who look "different" with makeup on.. do guys really think we put wings and pink eyeshadow on for them? Lol why would we?
Okay, my bestfriend just said he is going to kill himself he lives in another sate but i dont know wich one he REFUSES to call suicide hotline or do the online chat version of it and nomatter what I say he just keeps saying he is going to khs and i dont know what to do i followed all of the advice i have gotten from your videos so far and he still says he will khs what do i do
superquirkycorgi 509 if you know where your friend lives call the police so they can keep him safe. If you don't know where he lives maybe try and find someone who does and let them know what is going on.

I ended up messaging his gf and his mom and his mom said that his dad had walkout on him about 6 monthes ago and his sister is really sick. She said that threatening to khs is his way of coping with it bcause that is one of the few things he has controll over. She took him to the hospital to get help, and he was diagnosed with depression. Thank you so much! Without you something terrible could have happened.
