    ▷ ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Kristen, I am 22 years old, from Sacramento CA, and I have a BA in Psychology from Sacramento State University. I created this channel for three reasons that are very close to my heart. One, to help others be able to tell their stories and be advocates for mental health, to give recovery tips and tricks to help others find the help they need, and to spread awareness for mental health issues to fight the stigma surrounding it. The more we talk about mental illness the more normalized it will be in our society and the more people will not be ashamed to get help!

My girlfriend suffers from schitsophrenia and depression. Once I admitted to having depression and anxiety, we became a lot more open and honest with eachother because we knew what it felt like to go through our bad days and we support eachother no matter what happens. She does make her own decisions sometimes, but mostly comes to me for confermation, sometimes she ignores me. I still love her even on her bad days and hopefully there's more good days to come. I couldn't have asked for a better Gf ❤️

This comment reminds me of the weird reason I know so much about the condition. I spent a while researching, to the point of knowing specifics on early onset and antipsychotic side effects, because of Dib from Invader Zim. I kept going because of how complicated and fascinating schizophrenia is, but the initial motivation was to determine whether or not Dib was actually insane.

Hey Kristen, I was wondering if you could do a little segment on emotional repression. I've managed to subconsciously repress my feelings, and though i know it's a defense mechanism, it has made my life a living hell. I can't cry anymore. I just can't and even if I do, it's only for a few minutes and I feel even worse than I did before. I've turned completely emotionless. I don't feel anything anymore, not even pain. I know I need to cry and cope with these feelings, but I just can't feel anything. I struggle with depression and an eating disorder, and even the self harm and the restriction/starvation doesn't do anything anymore.
Great video, by the way. I really enjoyed it. Thank you

I have a friend who had a husband with schizoaffective disorder and he was... well there were situations that happened and next I knew he stopped taking his medicine and decided it was a good idea to remain silent about it and started using cannabis to treat it. Needless to say he became worst, started being violent with himself but then it went outward, he was abusing my friend and his kids both physically and sexually. We didn’t know about the sexual part until she divorced him and put a restraining order on him due to him showing psychotic symptoms. They found out after the kids (under 6 years old) told the authorities. And I hadn’t been there due to my friend and I separating. We got back together and I found out he was using other drugs like cocaine with cannabis as medicine. Mind you this isn’t a put down towards people struggling with this. But an encouragement to these people that schizophrenia is no laughing matter and you gotta take your recovery and treatment seriously. Take your meds! And don’t be flippant with it because either way you go whether you explode towards other or implode yourself, self medicating with this mental illness is dangerous. Please seek the help you need and don’t deter from it. Because this is very important

I have BPD and it sucks but I did outpatient therapy and it really helped me so much. I would highly recommend it. I also hallucinate when I get really depressed. (I don't have schizophrenia or psychosis either) the program was tailored towards people with BPD so that was really cool. Best of luck to you :) I know it's rough but you can recover.

Hi, I just wanted to say thank you for this. I have a book idea in the works, and I considered having my main character be diagnosed with schizophrenia. I didn't want to write about it inaccurately in fear it could hurt someone, or be a misrepresentation. So I'm trying to research this thoroughly. Thank you for clearing up some misconceptions, I will continue looking into this. In the meantime, you have a new subscriber. have an awesome day!

Very clear, easy to understand and interesting. I think it is great that you raise awareness of people with schizophrenia as normal people, as I think it is one of the ilnesses that has more stigma between mental health issues.

2:00 She says that the symptoms can be categorized 'negative' and 'positive', but there is also 'cognitive'. 4:45 Furthermore she states that 4/10 will commit suicide, that's not true, though she is right that 40% will make an attempt. All this i found in her sources in the description.

I'm not Kristen but I think that it may be or it may not be. If someone does it with the intention of hurting themselves or interfering with the wound healing then it can be considered self harm. If not then it would probably just be considered a bad habit.

I am 19 and been diagnosed with schizophrenia at age 18. I had hallucinations where I would see shadow people following me and watching me. These shadow people would be everywhere I go especially when I am alone. I would see eyes at night and see a tall faceless man everywhere I go. I would hear whispering voices at night and people would talk to me and I thought it was ghosts because no one was there. There were multiple voices but the voices only came at night. I show emotion but my emotions are so bad. I cry so easily, I get mad easily, I get happy easily...it's like my emotions are elevated. I also believe in ghosts and demons and believed they were after me. I believed the devil was a part of me. I believed I was being targeted by people. I didn't focus well and saw many things. I would daze out or forget what I was doing. My memory is terrible. I get scared easily and I am fearful of a lot of things. Does that sound like Schizophrenia?

She's also said she's felt numb her entire life. Would this be classified as schizophrenia or not?

    • @Gentlesideoffury

Drugs do not cause schizophrenia! I hate when people says that. You already have schizophrenia but the doing of drugs can bring that out when it's dormant. If your a 20 year old male and you smoke weed and end up having a schizophrenic episode... That just brought it out.
