This is a pretty deep dive for The Hollies. It actually was a single, but never charted. I guess it's someone's favorite. If you want another Hollies song, try Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress.
Yeah, I've noticed recently they've been doing some unusual choices from artists that had much more well-known songs -- the other one today from the Isley Brothers is another example.
@@DJHolte I agree! They could do just top 40 songs from 1965-1990. For the next 3 years and never get to them all!!
Not alll songs hit the same in each country. Some groups are considered one hit wonders in America but actually had bigger hits in theur home country...and often vice versa.
@@oakhillfound847 Don't Let Me Down was only released as a single in the US and Canada. It didn't reach the charts in either country, and it wasn't released in the UK or any other country.
@@gotham61 Being in the UK that would explain why I had not heard it before! A nice song that deserved more exposure!
The Hollies were absolutely superb. So many diverse and great songs over a long period of time. Beautiful and easy on the ears!
You’re so right Hollie’s about the diversity. No two songs sound the same . You know how you can listen to an album of music from one artist and it all sounds the same but different ? The Hollie’s were never like that. I couldn’t put my finger on what I liked so much about them until I saw your explanation. Thanks 😊
@@MadJenno The thing about The Hollies was that they did, either, covers or other songwriters' work for years. I remember how they were the first group to do a Springsteen cover, here in the UK, for instance. They did some of their own material eventually.
Their first hit was a cover of Doris Troy's 'Just one Look'. After that it took until their 7th single to have a hit, with a self-penned number - 'Stop, Stop, Stop'. 'Bus Stop' was written by Graham Gouldman and was their first, real, US hit.
'Long Cool Woman' keeps getting mentioned but it was written by Allan along with Greenaway & Cook and none of the other Hollies.
An incredibly versatile group and perfection in live gigs.
The lead singer is Allan Clarke. Superb voice.
Graham Nash and Allan Clarke formed The Hollies in 1962 in England playing the Mersey beat. The Hollies are known for their distinctive 3 part harmonies.
Graham left in 1968 to form Crosby,Stills, and Nash.
This song is typical Hollie perfection. Great instruments and beautiful harmonies. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️🇨🇦 🇨🇦
The lead singers name is Alan Clark. This song came from the same album as "The Air That I Breath." This is probably my favorite Hollies song.
Another Great Band with a long list of great songs. I know you both would enjoy Gary Puckett and the union gap. 🤘🎵
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "On A Carousel for your 6th Hollies song!!!
They have done six... sadly, "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" got taken down. Such a shame. Great song.
Their voices bring me a peaceful feeling. ✌🏻
I adore the Hollies and I’ve never heard this song.
The Hollies were pure class. They were a UK group from Manchester, the Beatles, as everyone knows were from Liverpool. I am from Liverpool but always preferred the hollies...their sound was so unique, and they were so prolific, never made a bad record.
I love how a song can take u to a moment that will never be forgotten because of it. One of my first slow/fast dances was to this song even if it was with my mom in our livingroom late 60s. We did that a lot, lol. Still do any time we can. Thanx again for the memories, Be well, Peace
I first saw the Hollies in 1964 Alan Clarke was the Lead Singer. When they started out until 1968 the main support Singer was Graham Nash ( Later Crosby Stills and Nash)!
The Hollies had many hit singles and where originally from Manchester UK.
The Hollies were an awesome group, thanks for reacting to this song
You guys must do Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress. It's an absolutely vibe. More upbeat and rockier from the Hollies. At the start, you'll probably swear it is CCR. I promise you will love it.
Edit: Sorry guys, I missed this reaction and saw you did it a year ago. Just as I suspected J picked up on the CCR vibe.
Ive listened to The Hollies music for nearly 50 years, and I've never heard this song. "The Air that I Breathe" is one of my favorites (and has been re-made by several artists over the years, including Simply Red). This is really good. Thanks for choosing it for us.
1974, The Hollies had some really wonderful album cuts on every record, one of my all time top 10 Hollies Songs is No More Riders, a folk rock gem.
I've loved The Hollies forever but I'd never heard this song but I absolutely loved it. They were brilliant. Try Carousel or Jennifer Eccles next.
🌿Me too... Never heard before today(to my recollection)
I was also not familiar with this one, but I liked it a lot. No surprise. The Hollies were so talented.
I grew up with my mum and dad singing Jennifer Eccles to me - it’s why they chose my name , after the Hollie’s song. ❤️
Great choice!!! It doesn't get old , it gets better!!!
There nothing like getting lost in the beautiful harmonies in a song.
Your music and movie reactions, bring a lot of joy to obviously not just me!
Ryan from here in Toronto
The Hollies were one of the best of the British Invasion bands. I would suggest “I Can’t Let Go” or “Pay You Back With Interest.”
Love their voices together
There are two parts to the Hollies, first with Graham Nash in the sixties, and then later as a ‘70’s vocal rock band.
Early tracks to cover would be On a Carousel or Carrie Anne. Later stuff would be The Air that I Breath. ✌️
They already did Air That I Breathe and Carrie Anne
One thing that never changed with the group was lead singer Allen Clarke only on one hit i'm aware of did someone else sing lead and that was Magic Woman Touch.
I love Carrie Ann
I am a big Hollies fan but i don’t know this song. Their really big hits were from the 60’s and very early 70’s. This is when they were older and less popular.
Same here...not familiar with this song.
"Bus Stop" and "The Air That I Breathe" are my favorites.
I have a Hollies Greatest Hits CD (yeah, I'm old) which has 20 songs and this is not one of them.
I guess it's a deep track.
@@albertsmith9315 I'm old, too...and glad of it! Grew up in the best music era. Now with the horrible state of the country and the rest of the world, it may be time to get a mega collection of oldies music and sit on the porch and rock on!
BTW, I don't remember that song...must have been on the C side! 🙃🤣
It was on the same album as The Air That I Breethe, they were still big in the mid 70s.
@@volkerthienenkamp9720 I guess I just played their 60’s stuff. I live in the past.
Hollies/Harmonies! :) This wasn't an 'on-air' hit that I recall, but no mistaking the sound. :) Love any Hollies Reaction! :) Take Care Guys!
Oh, if you're going to do The Hollies, "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" is a must.
I love the Hollies. This was freaking awesome.
I was just hearing today that the Beatles loved this band and wrote songs for them.
The really strange thing about the Hollies is that when Graham Nash was in the band (1963-1968), they were really just a pop band. A very good one, as you can see from "Bus Stop" and "On A Carousel" and "Carrie Anne" and others, but still pop.
Which is weird because Graham Nash is NOT just pop, as he's spent so many years demonstrating with Crosby, Stills, Young and on his own. And what's even weirder is that once Graham was gone, Allan Clarke took the Hollies in very different directions, as we see here.
Can't argue with the results, though.
And I know that you loved Manfred Mann's Earth Band doing their cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light". I knew that others had covered the early Bruce (before he became a superstar) and I've mentioned Manfred's other covers and Greg Kihn doing "For You" and David Bowie doing "Growin' Up" and "It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City"…but I didn't know that, about a year after this, the Hollies did a cover of Bruce's "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)", which I'm about to check out. Obviously, I'd love for you to hit the original, as well, but I'm interested to see what Allan (and Tony Hicks on the guitar and the rest of the band) do to that one, as well.
And I see that on that same 1975 album ("Another Night") there's a song called "I'm Down", which is not The Beatles' song of the same name. Gee, if Allan just needs to grab a Beatles album to think up song titles, that's half the job, I guess. Lol.
The Hollies are truly one of the great UK banks. This was a single from Allan Clarke's comeback album after his (failed) attempt at a solo career. On that 1974 album that contains this track, the big hit was a song that I'm sure you are familiar with, "The Air That I Breathe." The album, simply titled "Hollies," is wonderful. Every song, mostly, is a winner.
Have you listened to Harry Chapin yet? He's a great storyteller. The Cat's in the Cradle is a classic of his. Taxi is also a good one, it has a follow-up song too. A lot of his songs are long so never made it to the radio.
His song "Flowers Are Red" is about kids and teacher.
@@willowthegood9035 I forgot about the teacher connection! I am really surprised they haven’t found Harry yet.
I don't comment much, but you both have progressed in your music knowledge. I have been a sub since Jordan was by himself and had 64k subs.
Allan Clark, que timbre singular, maravilha...! Quando entram os outros na vocalização é, simplesmente Celestial...!!
The Hollies first record was releast in 1963 about the same time as the Beatles started they Hollies always gave them a run for there money, these were the groups i grew up with in my early teens but i always preffered The Hollies and the lead singer is Allen Clarke.
Love The Hollies! Great Song, Great Reaction Rob Squad! There is another "Don't Let Me Down" song, and it's by Twisted Sister. It's not a Beatle or Hollies cover. Keep up the great work and continue to enjoy your musical journey.
This particular album I searched for years because of how much I loved this song. I know Alan Parsons helped engineer a couple of Hollies albums because he tapped their lead singer for a few Alan Parsons Project tracks. Early Hollies inckufed Graham Nash of Crosby Stills and Nash fame.
Here's a random thought:
Lullaby of Birdland by Sarah Vaughan as written by George Shearing.
Now for the Hollies.
Love all their songs. Thanks for your wonderful reviews.
Yes must listen to Long "Cool Woman in a Black Dress". Kind of a CCR groove by The Hollies.
Yes I have heard it before because I have that album ....It is good to hear the songs that are not just the hits ..
Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress is my favorite song
Great song guys thanks Jay and Amber love you guys ❤
"gasoline alley bred" is a hidden gem :)
I got into The Hollies after Courtney Love said they were one of she and Kurt's favorite bands. I gave them a listen and she was right, they're fantastic.
If you love story telling. Please. One of the most haunting songs. By one of the best singers ever.
Cat Stevens “Lady De‘Arbanville”. And one of his haunting rockers “Hard Headed Woman”. These songs Will stay with you forever.
“Lady De‘Arbanville” is one of my dad's favorites. We are not allowed to talk when this song is playing. 🙊He is right! It is indeed a beautiful song!
I think you already listened to Bus Stop, which I think is one of their best songs. Next I would suggest Carrie Ann.
They reacted to Carrie Ann Sep 3, 2022.
@@surlechapeau Oh, OK.
They reacted to a live version of Carrie Ann.
Just One Look is a really rockin' tune from the Hollies!!!!!
Give “ He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” by the Hollies a listen.
Jay & Amber, great song!! If you're enjoying early/mid 70s Hollies there is so much to choose from!! But first you gotta try "The Day That Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee" - it's in the same vein as "Long Cool Woman". Other uptempo or rockers include "Perfect Lady Housewife", "Slow Down", Mexico Gold", "You Gave Me Life (With That Look In Your Eyes)". For more mellow songs try "Gasoline Alley Bred", "Long Dark Road", "Too Young To Be Married", "Magic Woman Touch", "Son Of A Rotten Gambler".
jay and the americans have a great song that has a swooning feel and reels you in - "Come a Little Closer" one of the 60s bands i never heard of but found this song to be a fresh sound you'll enjoy it
Wow, never heard this song before, I love it!👍👏👏👏♥️♥️🌹
"Long Cool Woman" one of The Hollies hits, check it out.
Allan Clarke had a great and distinctive voice. I wasn't really familiar with this one. It's a beauty.
Those harmonies!
"Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" is where it's at!
Any Hollies playlist is incomplete without "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress"
Next Hollies song: "Stop, Stop, Stop"
Long cool woman is a great song by them
Sammy John's " Chevy Van" this is why 20 Year olds vehicle of choice was a , Chevy vans in the 1970s
Another 70's band you should go back to is The Guess Who. You've reacted to 3 of their songs, but not the song called: Undone.
It's got some different vibes going on I think you'll really like and a very interesting back story.
Thanks for the Hollies song!
👋🇨🇦✌
Great stuff!! ❤️ I've never heard that one!! Thank you Amber and J!!
@RobSquadReactions
The Hollies had a huge advantage by being signed to EMI, then the foremost record company, who were able to attract the greatest orchestral players from the major London orchestras. And they had fantastic producers like Norrie Paramour, George Martin, and great engineers. Getting signed to EMI was like winning the lottery! And the vulture capitalists destroyed it all! Have you done Gerry and the Pacemakers' 'You'll Never Walk Alone' yet?
I love the Hollies!! Guys, please don't forget to react to The Outfield - Every Time You Cry 💔. Beautiful ballad!
I'd also recommend "Since You've Been Gone" by The Outfield.
Can I suggest "I Can't Let Go" by The Hollies. Who were one of the very best bands from the "British Invasion" back in 60s. Alan Clarke is the lead singer. Can you believe that this song never even got in the charts? It's beautiful. 🎼🎵🇬🇧
From the same album as AirThat I Breathe
Ozzy, no more tears. And Fozzy judis. Great songs.
Stop Stop Stop by The Hollies is a great song as it contains a Banjo
Try The Walker Brothers and the fabulous voice of Scott Walker singing Mrs Murphy from their Portrait LP 1966 It's a story! The Walker Brothers were three guys from LA who took the UK by storm at the height of the British invasion.
Gary Puckett and the Union Gap was suggested above and I agree! Young Girl is awesome !
This must be on the same album that had The Air That I Breath. I remember it but don't recall it being a hit. A couple of non-hit Hollies songs that are great are To Do With Love and A Little Thing Called Love from the Distant Light album.
@𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙨𝘼𝙥𝙥 𝙢𝙚+𝟏𝟔𝟏𝟗𝟑𝟔𝟏𝟏𝟏𝟑𝟐 I hate these automatic 'replies' that show that you don't read your comment sections.
My suggestion Band "The Left Bank" Song "Walk Away Renee" 1966
Led Zeppelin I'm gonna crawl great song
Lead singer's name is Allan Clarke
"On a Carousel," "Carrie Ann," and "Look Through Any Window" are outstanding early Hollies with jangling guitars and fantastic harmonies. I sure hope you try one of these soon!
A really catchy early Hollies song called "I'm Alive", I think, would be a fun one to react to.
Another soft rock song you'll like is "Fresh Air" by Quicksilver Messenger Service.
Please react to Air that I breathe. It's fantastic!!!
You should react to Payolas - Eyes of a stranger, most underrated gem of the 80´s
The Hollies are a classic band. As commented below, definitely review Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress.
Tomorrow is D-Day, a good song would be from Joe Diffie - “Ships That Don’t Come In “
There's also "Don't Bring Me Down" by the Animals in 1966 or thereabouts.
You have to try The Hollies There s always goodbye, listen to the emotion in his voice.Never a single but should of been.
Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress, total banger. Female Friday is coming, Celtic Woman would be nice. A new all girl group Citizen Queen, fire. Thanks for this memory.
Brad Paisley
"Waiting on a Woman"
with Andy Griffith
This song will touch your hearts!
I vastly prefer "Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress)". It's much more of a rock sound, rather than this more folk music sound.
guys still waiting for sick puppies- Free hugs/All the same video- great rocking song, great message, you will not be disappointed
This is a deep track for sure. Try "Long Cool Woman" if you haven't.
Happy family from San diego you guys from way back I'm pretty poor but you put a smile 😃 on my face love yall
Y’all will love “Long Dark Road”, but listen to the studio version, not the one live version on RUclips, to get the full effect of all the musical instruments and the original lead singer.
Look through any window♥️
Ronnie Milsap has some great tunes. Check him out.
You will love this. From the movie Rock Star. Several songs. Stand up, We all die young, and Blood Pollution. Mark Wahlberg does a great job singing metal when he is best known as a rapper.
I was thinking that if you love Barry Gibbs falseto, you will love Bobby Debarge from Switch. He is up there with Barry. "There'll Never Be". "I Call Your Name" and "Lover Over and Over" Amazing... He is the oldest brother of the Debarges
For some later Hollies, you can try The Air That I Breathe, then go hear k.d. lang's equally gorgeous cover of it. Beautiful.
I've always loved SORRY Suzanne by the Hollies and would like to hear it Its really good
Such a good band. Song suggestion: Paul Carrack--Better Than Nothing. There's a part in there that Amber will enjoy. I'm not leaving you out Jordan, you'll enjoy the song too haha.
I love The Beatles. But the best Don't Let Me Down music it is by The Hollies.
My first time hearing this song. Kind of reminds me of Van Morrison.
You gotta do "Long Cool Woman". That's one of their more rocking tunes.
First time I loved it!
Song recommendations: Third Eye Blind “semi-charmed life” and “narcolepsy”. The Black Keys “set you free”.
Female Friday: Paramore “misery business”
