I got mine yesterday. I'm extremely in love with the filter, what a great filter and love that drive sound. incredibly versatile. adding 2 vco's into the input plus adding the tonestar vco and sub is just nuts. i did the feedback mod which gives it even more uncontrolable mayhem. great module!
This is really inspiring. Love the jam with the drums! I own a TTSH Arp 2600 but I'd love to add one or both tonestars to expand it! They both look so gorgeous too that---well which to choose or choose first? Or maybe compromise & get the 2600 type above & an 8106 filter?
That was my original plan, then I saw a Tonestar 8106 on a great sale so it basically cost the same as the 8106 filter, and the deal was sealed. The full synth voice is versatile and gorgeous. On top of that, being able to run external sound through this is great. It's a filter even if you don't need the oscillators. And at the very least, having more asdr and ar envelopes is a nice bonus. Anyone can use an LFO in any patch. What I'm trying to say, is: It's always useful for something. Having the feedback to thicken the signal (internal OR external) is a really great feature. The VCO and VCF make this full synth voice very beautiful, but the way you can split it into parts or run external sounds through it makes it unique.
Thanks for the video Ben. One thing though: the controls seem a bit confusing. The mod amounts from adsr and lfo aren't consistent in colour, placement or labeling between the filter and oscillator. There has to be some fiddling in order to labe the normalled functions, but this seems needlessly confusing to me.
Hello. I received my Tonestar but i think that something is wrong with it. It is very noisy. I put all my oscilators, and other parametars to zero, put the drone to "on" and hear strange hum mixed with oscilator...
I recently acquired an Tonestar 2600. Forgive me, but I’m a newb to modular (this is my first modular) and I was hoping to connect this with my Keystep via CV. I have connected the gate on the KS to the 2600 gate in, the pitch from the KS to the 1 V/O on the 2600, and the KS mod to the mod in on the 2600. I get sound when I’m doing this but the pitch does not change when I play up and down the KS. Could anyone steer me in the right direction?
I was impressed by this unit bigly at Mach in Music in october. It's "on the list" for sure. (were you at NAMM Ben? I was looking for you around the Modular vendors)
You can certainly make similar sounds based on the same synthesis types in FL and other DAWs and plug ins. However it's not the same. Notice I don't say better or worse, just not the same. Both in sound and more obviously in tactile response of a physical instrument / device. I'm not against using plug ins though. For what it's worth Serum is my favourite soft synth.
Hey Randomroutine, appreciate the honesty not everyone's style is suited to everyone. Mylar Melodies doesn't work with Future Music anymore doing these videos to go with the in magazine article/tutorial text. It's been me since for over a year now I think (although public uploads are later than in magazine stuff). Mylar Melodies is still on RUclips though.

Another great review, Ben! Now I know what I'm saving up for next.
amazing! with drive and feedback sounds like from another world!
yeah it gets super dirty!
What a well-designed module! And it sounds great.
surely on my list. incredible sounding vco and filters
The best filter ever...for me!
Incredible sound
yeah certainly it's a great unit.
I've always liked the sound of this thing.
you had some killer Oizo bass from it when you were round.

You nailed it man!
has anyone tried adding another vco to this? I'm looking at the minimod VCO
I'm considering whether one of these would make a nice expander for my TTSH.

The price is great on this beauty.
how does the filter compare to their dedicated arp filter?
If this was suppose to be like a 2600, it should’ve been a dual vco module right?

Is that an inexpensive way to get a small taste of the Omega 8? If not, what is?
amazing.. i was looking for a replacement to microbrute in eurorack format to match with my 0coast .. this is just perfect :D .. thank you !
This would compliment a 0-coast really well. Different sound sets but could modulate each other back and fourth.
The Tonestar would rock with an 0 Coast for sure... great combo
Quem não quer um Desses ?? 💰💰
everyone wants one right? :)
please fill the other two screw holes!thanks!
ahahah!
Я конечно хз, но по моему все это можно просто на плагинах в FL накрутить.

matter of taste ... perfect way to put it.
