Def worth checking out 'moritz klein' on RUclips for this. Great synth diy channel where he explains the electronics and then does step by step breadboard builds.
@@sine0 Shouldn't have, although he may have, unsure. The ones I'm most cordial to are his DIY series where he roughly covers each section of a synth; they're the only breadboarding videos of his I've seen.
This looks and sounds amazing. For the people asking for schematics, he's linked his blog in the About page of his channel. He goes over each of the sections in detail there. I'd post a link directly, but I forgot that RUclips will auto hide comments with URLs in them and so my previous comments got removed or hidden or something. Anyway at the end of his blog post you can get the link to his bandcamp where you can listen to the song he teased at the end of this video.
Very inspiring! I love breadboard builds, i find them more relaxing than pcb design/layout. Feels a bit like puzzling to make it all neat and tidy. I did build a Thomas Henry 555VCO on breadboard at some point. It's a bit larger than René's VCO, but def worth it: you get extra Sine and Triangle Waves, and a super cool 'hard sync' input. All standard Parts too! (Based on 555 and LM13700)
DUDE!! THAT build seems to be really holding up to your playing and wear, since my breadboards usually would produce some undesirable static from general wear or short-outs in the wiring. And your wiring btw is really nice and pretty, no bare copper and no huge lengths of slack. Your own diy monosynth - just with the modules that you’ve decided upon - that gives the synth an overall sound that’s all to itself. Very lovely with that Polivokc filter. The whole thing just really is your own unique innovation! Really inspiring work that you’ve done!! I’d love to read the code for the MIDI module! So cool!! Edit I’ve found Rene Schmitz’s Midi/CV!!
Brings modular synth to a whole new level! This is actually super cool, and if you're familiar with the components and could mix and match stuff it could be loads of fun to play with
@tristen_grantbecause he is combining different elements from different synths, VCO, Filter, ADSR, etc. that’s what you do with modular, just instead of a euro rack it’s all mashed together on a breadboard.
Great work . Its great to see these beeadboard projects thats how I started. I'm very interested in setting in the midi to cv part. I will look it up. In the meantime continue the great work.
Cool design and awesome effort!! I've been building synths since the 80's starting with ElectroNotes publications from Ithaca, NY. I'd given up on breadboarding on more than one occasion. Invariably after moderate use, my connections would get funky and tracking down issues seemed to take over all my time. These days I use PCBs with soldered thin copper w/ nylon sleeving for workups and once I have something viable, I create a circuit board and send the gerber files off to Asia where they give you 5 PCB's for ~ 30$.
This is insane. I built the Ben eater computer last year. Might have to start working on something like this soon. I’ll echo the call for a tutorial series. Even just a few videos on how to make the lfo, psu, mixer, etc. I’d watch the heck out of that. Great work
whoa, I'm a huge beginner but I really really would like to know the schematic section just for converting the midi protocol into the CV required to control the oscillators. It looks so simple on the board but I don't even know where to begin.
This is great! I was wondering is there a "good" quality breadboard for doing stuff like this? I have a few cheapo breadboards that look like this, but after i've prototyped a few things i notice the wires don't make a good connection on some spots after they've been punched in a few times.
Good evening, this basic synth sounds amazing! I can buy an analog synth but I don't want to, I can't play music but I don't want to... Just want to build things like this, learn how they work or sound... so can you PLEASE give me some information or schematics to build this one, it is a starting point to me and very important! Anyway you did a great job with this one!! PLZ give more info, THANK YOU!! Best regards, Roman Kurt
Although this synth sounds cool, it would be an awful point to start as a learning, imo. There are thousands of videos by experts online- see Moritz Klein's DIY synth series, for example.
They are "relaxation oscillators" which just use one opamp as an inverter with hysteresis. (Much like the hex Schmitt trigger oscs.) They give a square wave output, but a 2 opamp 8 pin chip could use the 2nd opamp to buffer the voltage on the oscillator's capacitor to give a sharktooth wave output.
That sounds so good -- it's got that early Moog/Land of the Lost vibe. You make me want to learn electronics.
Yes! Kit, schematic? You could be getting these into the hands of all musicians
No one has ever explained things so clearly
Thank you!!!!
the build is right there in front of your face lol
Amazing! Would love to see a tutorial series

@@KeurslagerKurt Not so much any more, since he partnered with a manufacturer. Such is the lifecycle of community launching pads.
At a glance I thought it was Rob Scallon XD
@@buckstarchaser2376 did he delete any of his earlier videos? I went to his channel and there wasnt much there in the way of breadboarding

You clarified 50 years of my learning about synths in Just a few minutes. Amazing!!!!! Thank you
Wow! What a very nice synthesizer. Almost skipped this video expecting to hear some simple 555 beeps. Subscribed.
This new YT layout is a pile of shit. I cannot subscribe until I exit out of the video……? Where is the subscribe button today?

have seen Adamski A. monster breadboard Synthesizer?
i wonder why he didn't get an approached by the World guines books of Records.

This was brilliantly mad! How much did all components used cost in total? Thanks!
Maybe my hearing is not that good ... but I can not tell the difference from a commercial analogue ... (using good headphones)
Sell a full tutorial for this, I would pay at least $20 to learn how to do this.
The vca is just 2 transistors? What is it based on?
