Most managers in Amazon are Indian. I am an Indian guy in US with an Indian manager. I am not in talking terms with my father who lives in India.
He googled office number of India branch of my company. He uses this number to call and tell my company to make me talk to him.
If my Indian manager comes to know about this, will it impact my promotion to a more senior role?what about my conservative Indian manager?
Many Indian managers do judge right? I want to grow up through the managerial ranks.
Actually I work in a firm with stack ranking. I am afraid that I might get into PIP due to conservative Indian manager and due to calls from father.

@AarthiAndSriram - thank you for doing this episode. This is extremely valuable for us and we have already taken your advice about doing a daily routine with our daughter. Also, I love how Aarthi comfortably speaks English in her natural accent. I too have become confident in speaking with my natural Chennai Tamil flavored English accent at work and find that I communicate much better that way!

Aarthi and Sriram - great show! I thoroughly enjoyed your analysis throughout. I'd like to add my perspective on why some individuals, especially immigrants, might be hesitant to voice opinions in meetings early in their careers. For many immigrants on H1B visas, their job in the US is a lifeline, and they might fear jeopardizing it by possibly upsetting their superiors. Moreover, I've observed that some Indian managers (outside of Silicon Valley, at least) can take offense when bypassed or challenged in a broader meeting setting.
I wholeheartedly agree with your thoughts on the power of routines in fostering connections with our children and adding purpose to our lives. A recent addition to my routine is dropping my kids off at school on an e-bike. With both of them riding with me, it's a delightful 15-minute journey where we get to discuss topics we might not usually touch upon at home. Plus, it's much less stressful than dealing with the parking hustle and dodging other 'rush hour NASCAR drivers' (a.k.a. parents)!
Regarding a suggestion for future topic, I'd be interested in hearing a more in-depth discussion on affirmative action. While you've touched on it briefly in previous episodes as an aside, a dedicated one would be appreciated. This recent news article left me intrigued: abc7chicago.com/amp/stanley-zhong-google-college-admissions-rabbitsign/13894948. Having a young person like Stanley Zhong on the show to discuss their perspective on the necessity of college education could provide valuable insights for us parents."
