That was a wonderful compilation of really interesting thoughts, answering some of the recurring questions on a tech worker's mind! Thanks to both of you 😊!

I remember listening to one of your episodes just before starting a new job in December 2022.
Sriram specifically said “Get a series of small, quick wins”.
I did exactly that by working for 12 hours a day for the first 3 months.
As a result I breezed through my probation AND was able to set hours based on my convenience (like come and go as I wish, with certain limits).
And we even got published in Nature!

I used to be in the bucket of titles don't matter, until I saw less worthy (in my opinion) people get higher titles for the same or lesser work, and then titles started mattering.

Great advice on putting yourself in a niche. It especially works in rural areas or small places. People complain all the time about being in a rural place and not having opportunity . But they underestimate how easy it is to get noticed for a niche especially if you’re from a small town or small company. It can be a great stepping stone to bigger things. Also the confidence that comes from being an expert in a niche can help mitigate some of the imposter syndrome that one might face in a bigger organization or city.

Any advice on how to make the most of my us uni life?
What I learnt from this video: peer group is important, show up everyday, take a break, set up systems, make a bet on yourself.

Speaking about 'titles not mattering': Its a great principle to have. But an observation I have had about how this truly plays out is: the candidates who buys this argument and fails to argue for their title(s), looses out to the ones who do. i.e, the cost of the principle is unequally distributed against folks who might buy this principle.

Thanks Sriram and Aarthi for the podcast. Amazing to hear your experience. If I look at your LinkedIn profile before the podcasts, I would probably have thought that I have no chance of meeting you folks. But after hearing you, and how down to earth you are, I would have definitely sent a cold email to catch for coffee in the bay area. I think it's still not too late, whenever you folks are in the bay area, I would love to catch a cup of coffee with you:)

Appreciate you for calling Gokul out, Sriram! Love almost all of his advice, except for this one.
Levels & titles act as the brand of the employee. They act as quick signal or filters for folks to decide.
Yes, title games can come in the way of actual work, but in their absence an employee may not have one word filters in their career growth & search. Challenging as it maybe, management & executives should aim to make sure these games are not taking attention away from core business and that everybody stays motivated.

In the context @aarthir mentioned I guess it is horns effect when one negative factor influences assessments of other areas of behavior of performance. For Halo effect, it is generally the the oppostive when one positive factor our opinion about other areas of performance of that individual
