why some people found this instrumental sounds creepy? i think i got an analysis to this. Instrumentally, this car honking and sirene, engine revving, people walking, whistling, and shouting sample can be associated with urban street. In Asia, especially for women, streets are one of the most risk place where you can easily get harrased, either by cat-calling (whistling), or anything else. i think this instrumental only can provide you a notion about how women feeling not safe, walking in this kind of environment. Interestingly, when you put Red Velvet vocal line into this instrumental, you can barely heard any sample i mentioned above. so i argued that this dominated and repressive instrumental were neutralized by Red Velvet, side to side with her concept of girl crush, or female empowerment. Bad Boy provides a good example of how a popular song can provide us a desire about female empowerment, in a society that most women still repressed and subordinated by other power.

This instrumental has nothing to do with SM. Korean companies frequently hire foreign producers. This song was produced by a group of american producers called the Stereotypes, they are responsible for a lot of successful songs in Korea and America, like recently almost all the last Bruno Mars songs.

Well, I believe the fact that SM hired foreign producers doesn't necessarily means that they did everything here and SM just paid it. according to the interview of the producer of 'cherry bomb' (nct127), Dem Jointz as song producer/composer (?) had to keep giving SM some new stuff until they fit what SM was looking for. "And we went back and forth, so I created a couple of pieces, and I didn’t know where they were actually gonna put it, but yeah we created a couple of pieces, and then Deez was actually the other producer that produced the bridge, and the more colorful side of it where the keys came in and everything. So he produced that side of it. We were all going back and forth and just making sure that it was right prior to them actually recording on the record and whatnot." And also SM said where he should start from, showed him some stuff before it all. I don't know about this song, didn't read anything about it. But about SM you can compare some songs, even that SM bought, like Hot Summer, they changed a bit the song structure and put some bass-y stuff on the instrumental. On the other hand, 'Run Devil Run' demo apparently did not change anything but voice effects. Unless the demo we have on internet from Ke$ha is already changed to fit what SM wanted. The first demo could have been different. Or they just didn't change anything, idk. 'Red Light' shows has a different chours drop and some song structural changes. 'You Think' had not the bridge on the demo from SAARA. My point is, SM _might_ to have something to do with it. Also the sounds on bg are something SM has done before, as said, on 7th sense, but also around 2012 they put stepping sounds on MV to fit the step of the dance moves and some whipping sounds when someone did fast moves. It took me a while to realize it was kinda funny lol but i think it worked to make the dance more intense. When i watched Bad Boy the first time, i thought they had just brought back this because the heels stepping sounds kinda matched the choreo but apparently is more of a 7th sense thing as creepy atmospherical noises. And honestly i don't think they would've put it if SM had not ask for it or at least allowed it. Even when kpop is produced by foreginers, i rarely hear the same 'sound' (like musical style) when i go into apop. I don't think it's all the same, target audience is different, cultural context is different, etc.

This is one of my favorite instrumentals! Really interesting to listen to it! It’s kind of a story behind these melodies. The sound of the car or the high heels makes me feel more curious while listening to it. The producer of this song is also really talented in making the beat becomes impressive (love the bass x3000). Hope red velvet will release more songs like this one

Why does everyone say it sounds creepy though?? It's so GOOD and CATCHY and it sounds amazing!!! I absolutely love how the sounds all mesh together to create this really awesome vibe that is totally iconic to this album and Red Velvet. It's honestly so good. Music productions like completely blow my mind and I just want to thank the music producers/composers for creating such beautiful master pieces.

When I first heard this song, I automatically thought it sounded like an underwater level of a video game. I love it even more for the interesting samples like car horns and sirens. Well, I believe the fact that SM hired foreign producers doesn't necessarily means that they did everything here and SM just paid it.
according to the interview of the producer of 'cherry bomb' (nct127), Dem Jointz as song producer/composer (?) had to keep giving SM some new stuff until they fit what SM was looking for.
"And we went back and forth, so I created a couple of pieces, and I didn’t know where they were actually gonna put it, but yeah we created a couple of pieces, and then Deez was actually the other producer that produced the bridge, and the more colorful side of it where the keys came in and everything. So he produced that side of it. We were all going back and forth and just making sure that it was right prior to them actually recording on the record and whatnot."
And also SM said where he should start from, showed him some stuff before it all.
I don't know about this song, didn't read anything about it. But about SM you can compare some songs, even that SM bought, like Hot Summer, they changed a bit the song structure and put some bass-y stuff on the instrumental. On the other hand, 'Run Devil Run' demo apparently did not change anything but voice effects. Unless the demo we have on internet from Ke$ha is already changed to fit what SM wanted. The first demo could have been different. Or they just didn't change anything, idk. 'Red Light' shows has a different chours drop and some song structural changes. 'You Think' had not the bridge on the demo from SAARA. My point is, SM _might_ to have something to do with it.
Also the sounds on bg are something SM has done before, as said, on 7th sense, but also around 2012 they put stepping sounds on MV to fit the step of the dance moves and some whipping sounds when someone did fast moves. It took me a while to realize it was kinda funny lol but i think it worked to make the dance more intense. When i watched Bad Boy the first time, i thought they had just brought back this because the heels stepping sounds kinda matched the choreo but apparently is more of a 7th sense thing as creepy atmospherical noises.
And honestly i don't think they would've put it if SM had not ask for it or at least allowed it. Even when kpop is produced by foreginers, i rarely hear the same 'sound' (like musical style) when i go into apop. I don't think it's all the same, target audience is different, cultural context is different, etc.

Why does everyone say it sounds creepy though?? It's so GOOD and CATCHY and it sounds amazing!!! I absolutely love how the sounds all mesh together to create this really awesome vibe that is totally iconic to this album and Red Velvet. It's honestly so good. When I first heard this song, I automatically thought it sounded like an underwater level of a video game.
