The Making Of Red Velvet 레드벨벳 "Bad Boy" With The Stereotypes | Deconstructed

- Опубликовано: 6 июн 2018
- The name of K-pop girl group Red Velvet references the different sides of its sound. Whereas the “Red” side represents a youthful pop style, the “Velvet” side stands for its more sophisticated R&B leanings. The five-person act’s biggest international hit to date, “Bad Boy,” falls into the latter category. Its ’90s-influenced production comes courtesy of the four-person team The Stereotypes, known for its work with Bruno Mars.

petition for The Stereotypes to produce another Red Velvet song
Signed
Mathew Abetnego they already did for rbb 😏
@@9abboyyo835 i tought rbb was produced by LDN Noise?
Yes!
Sensei WA yeah, but i think there’s a side track produced by the stereotypes
bad boy is one of rv's best title tracks, if not the best
One of the best title tracks this year.
Comeback of the year along with love scenario by ikon
Sebastian Reyes Marcano Of course :)
Probably one of my favorite songs of all time.
That and Automatic >>>
red velvet, in my opinion, has THE best music of newer girl groups. they incorporate rnb and hip hop influences into their songs, which are honestly my favourite kind, but they can also come out with bubblegum pop bops. their music just stands out to me from the current playing field, and I hope they keep serving us absolute bangers tbh
yes!!!
Exactly
They usually do a lot more bubble gum pop songs though compared to rnb which is probably why bad boy stood out for me as an amazing song
Exactly. JYP only wrote 2 songs for twice and blackpink is basically discount 2ne1
Mika Sihite Yeah because of a thing called “personal taste”. Not everyone cares about the music you think is the best, to THEM cute and catchy songs from twice are more enjoyable than r&b and vice versa with you. Just be you and let others have their opinions.

Kind of sad to hear from the creators that this kind of music is not well received in the states. I would definitely like to see more stuff like this... it has an unique vibe that you really don’t see in mainstream music.
Gum Aung kpop is becoming for mainstream in the West but it’s eh
Yes! It’s should be well received here! They released the full English version of bad boy tbh it’s be the only song I’d be so down to hear over the radio it’s so good!!
It's more due to the vast styles that exist in North America, there is a lot of progression and experimentation and collection, though will say radio is usually the lowest common denominator, you can find alot of cool stuff that is somewhat mainstream and some that are more underground in the various genres that don't exist in Korean music scene.
Not as many American artists can actually sing to accompany this kind of stuff so
Ariana Grande did it back then on Honeymoon Avenue
Red Velvet honestly has some of the best R&B based tracks in kpop rn.
mimiisanalien Preach
They have the best songs in the game right now
Kingdom Come. Period.
Exactly
preaaaach 🙌
this is why SM will always be the top company because of their high quality songs.
Who dat?
Young Iffy Blues SM means star music entertainment
I think YG is the top Company 😬
KIRA AMV same as YG, along with JYP, they’re top 3 agencies who always brings high quality songs
@@kiraamv5507 for me YG lacks variety...or whatever...they have their YG vibe in them that sells
Another Red Velvet song that screams 90's R&B is a song called Automatic. That's probably my favorite song from them along with Bad Boy.
marchveris it’s so angering how underrated automatic is cause it’s still one of my favorite kpop songs along with bad boy
Mimi Ramita fr
Yes
bec i dont know who but i read it’s the same one that produced kim lip’s eclipse. And that song is a masterpiece
AUTOMATIC IS MY SHIT I PLAY IT EVERY DAY
Those guys are geniuses.Their teamwork is just amazing, you can see that they communicate really well with each other.Hope one day I will have a team of producers like that.
btw the drum loop used is from Julez Jadon Trapped in love vol.3 kit.Big shout out to him!
one of the best kpop songs ever!
👏🏼
Let’s go then let’s do it
damien alter prod. No not really. They used a bunch of presets. Literally no original sound design.

Red Velvet on Genius? I knew I subbed for a reason.
YourKingReturns why do your avatar fits perfectly with the comment? 😂
Ihsan Tria Pramanda because I'm a NEET
YourKingReturns Same
I didnt expect too
when i saw this i was so shocked
That is one reason why I really love this song because of the 90's bounce in it.
uh I just now get notified 2 months later that I got 303 likes on this comment!! LOL youtube come on...
hey
Also theres a song called automatic by red velvet i heard it has the same 90’s vibe.

I love this song
WE NEED A "RED VELVET - PSYCHO" DECONSTRUCTED EPISODE
yes!!!💛
Exactly!! Red Velvet Psycho is just award material!!! It would be awesome. Please make it happen🙏🏻🙏🏻😂😂😂
Props to Genius for covering genres that derserve more attention like kpop and latin trap
Tommy Basic What do you mean Kpop is super popular especially BTS they won two billboard awards.
When the song came out, I was wondering who composed and brought back R&B to the K-POP scene - they're absolutly amazing.
Charli Taft who produced LOONA's songs and Red Velvet 's Velvet songs is also amazing.
Christiane Amare Red Velvet has been constantly implementing R&B in their music(i think theyre one of the reasons its still relevant in the kpop industry not to say R&B is irrelevent i just think the kpop industry naturally steers away from making R&B music because its complicated to produce an R&B song that people can groove to but still get lit too, and whoever produces RV's R&B tracks does it so well) i love the 90's vibes the group Red Velvet gives me they deserve more attention tbh.
Christiane Amare r&b never left kpop SM love r&b
+My name is Aminé I agree SM loves R'N'B. But it is true because we have Red Velvet. The queens of R'N'B : "Automatic", "Cool Hot Sweet Love", "One of These Nights', "Look", "Time Slip", "Bad Boy" 🎶
My name is Aminê
SM does a lot of slow Trap and Chill Trap, hip hop here and there but not as much RnB.
This editor definitely has a bias and that bias is Selugi

1:52 that dude with the epic beard created something so literally freakin iconic. Crazy how quick he came up with it.
Right!!!!
Yes, I will use THIS to explain why a grandpa listens to Kpop. It’s about finding the musicality that’s been mostly missing lately from western pop music.
Timothy Ford underrated comment
Love it. Music can connect people of all ages!

Your profile photo lol bye
And a bomb ass group!
Red Velvet fans let's thank these gentlemen for creating a BOP
SM HIRE THESE GENIUSES AGAIN TO CREATE ANOTHER BOP FOR YOUR GROUPS
Can’t believe they produced bruno’s recent hits as well as red velvet’s bad boy. They are so talented.
D Duy this was the comment I was looking for. It sounds like “that’s what I like.” Did they make that beat?
@@urielavila4512 yes they did!
Dope. I thought there was a different flavor to that track and I'm glad to see my hunch was right. It really did have a 90s R&B vibe and it worked very well. I'd love to see more collaborations with these guys in Kpop.
PaceBreaker Productions ah I see so that's why I liked it. Because I'm Korean American and not always into all kpop but for some reason this one stood out. Such a beautiful song. It makes me appreciate it so much more
then you might like the limitless album by nct 127. the stereotypes produced many tracks for nct actually
@@_de_reve oh really? Which album? Thanks!
@@mahardhikaputri7895 b-sides from the "Limitless" Mini Album by NCT 127. No problem!
Is it still considered as Kpop if it has an R&B vibe tho?
*the most important part of the song is melody* yass! That's why I became kpop fan. Most of kpop songs have songs with nice melodies that are my cup of tea. I don't really care about the lyrics, it's just a bonus if u know what are the english lyrics. And for the kpop haters, music is universal, it doesn't have language.
Joshua Remoroza I agree with you !
💖 The instrumentals draw me in the most
Agreed.
agreed!!!!
Another bonus from K-pop (but especially SM's artists) is that their harmonies are EVERYWHERE. It really provides a lot of colour to the tracks
I hope they produce for RV again someday.
I wonder who did the work for "Psycho"? That person/group deserve/s an award!
Grasshopper! I believe an SM music student produced it
composed by Andrew scott / cazzi opeia / ejae
Really cool to hear their mindset and see their process as a fellow producer. This has been one of my favorite songs so far this year.
isaac. Honestly
Did not expected this video, really happy cuz RV is one of the best groups now.
TRUTH !!!
Olavo Ataide true! and Bad Boys is a bop!
The best*
YESSSSS
just wait blackpink are their superiors tho
The Stereotypes composed my favorite song of Red Velvet KINGDOME COME. For me who likes the "Velvet" side more, I really hope they will do more songs for Red Velvet.
Really?
whats the velvet side?
Kingdom Come, Body Talk and Automatic is my holy trinity of "velvet" songs. I also love Bad Boy, which to me is both "red" and "velvet"
OMG YAS DID THEY? KINGS
@aatreyi kanjilal the concept of Red Velvet is having two sides, thats why they are called like that, a red concept is more playful and fun like red flavor, power up, dumbdumb, and a velvet side has a more mysterious, grown and serious concept, like this song bad boy, psycho, automatic, etc.
Yeah he's 100% right. K-Pop songs just have this sound that U.S. pop doesn't have, it's similar but uniquely different in it's own way which is what makes it so appealing and successful. Bad Boy is I think RV's greatest song, thanks to The Stereotypes and of course RV's amazing vocals.
Wow a kpop deconstructed. This series is why I subbed
Wish I was genius deconstructed
RaeSam haha Real talk
You need a major label placement then be in new york near their office then they film you
Adam Lui Music I make beats on RUclips right now, I have a couple beats on WSHH songs, and I just sent beats to DDG...this is like my biggest dream 💯 just being on genius 😂💯
RaeSam good luck on your dream!💕
"Red Velvet are already K-pop’s most musically interesting girl group, and “Bad Boy” solidifies them as one of the best in the game overall.' 🤙🏻
#whodatwhodatboyyy
I honestly have no words. This is just so amazing. They helped create one of my favorite songs of the year and seeing how they did it is just so amazing. Artists aren't always only the ones we see on camera.
exactly👏👏👏
Listen to "Kingdom Come", it was also produced by them !!😉
my favorite song
it’s my fav yAS
one of my faves 🙌
THEY MADE KINGDOM COME TOO?
OMG that makes so.much. Sense
Really awesome to be able to see more of the production teams SM Ent. works with, especially considering most, if not all of the title/promotional tracks that their artists have been putting out in recent years have been impeccable in terms of production. 90s R&B is right up my alley, so big thanks to The Stereotypes for putting together such a good track. Red Velvet executed it really well.
I Hope Stereotypes And Red Velvet Would Collab Again😭💕
They’ve expressed in words what I’ve always thought for almost a decade about kpop but couldn’t find the right words or people just couldn’t understand. Kpop is way more about musicality and the melody (which is what american pop used to be based on in the earlier 2010s but the trend changed). That musicality is what I value a lot in music so that’s why I enjoy kpop so much. Good melodies really satisfy me and that’s one of the biggest points of my criteria that I have when I listen and pick music I enjoy. They really hit the nail on the head. I hope we can see more kpop production videos on this channel because there are a lot of western producers working in that industry.
Yeah, actually, a british producer and singer, Charli Taft, is really talented and made amazing R'N'B songs for Red Velvet like "Automatic" and "Look" for example ! 🎶
so much hard work! and now we have this masterpiece
This is why I love SM, they bring in talent and let them go nuts with beats!!!! People shame companies like them because “ITs nOT aUthEntic” or “THe ArTISt doEsN’T makE tHe muSic”. Outside producers gotta eat too! They hire talent to and pick the idols who compliment them 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
PREACH!! They are the true definition of teamwork!! thanks to them producers and lyricists are given jobs!!
lol but it's true though. The artists don't make the music or write the lyrics, therefore there is a lack of authenticity smh 🙄
Berserk___ _ there is no lack of authencity. this is just ways of how music can be made, with songwriters and vocalists who perform it. you have to understand that this dynamic is what makes the music industry thrive, the mixture of ideas, the performances. All coming together.
If only they'd stop being misogynistic and give their female artists light sticks.
Keen Keane the better word to describe what they lack is "Genuinity"
The guy at 3:25 needs to give himself more credit. The addition of the pad sends the song above and beyond in my opinion, it really brought the track together. I’m more of a casual kpop listener, but the R&B influence on the song drew me in and it’s one of my favorites.
Who would actually dislike this? The song is crazy good. The composers are amazingly talented. And Red Velvet just captivates you with their performance, visuals and vocals!
Man they must be proud to have over 100 million views for their song
But they are the Grammy winner for producing album with Bruno Mars...
G Marpaung and? They can't be proud of their work bc they've been praised before ?
300M now 😌
I was NOT expecting kpop here, let alone my girls Red Velvet. Very nice 😎👌💕
HeWasRunchRanda me too, glad they're switching it up a LITTLE bit.
There's BTS too
I love red velvet because their music is so diverse and everything is new. Sm does a really good job with them, not sticking to one thing and giving them dark meanings. And even if they don't make their own music, they still sing in a ton of songs made just for them and I love that. This group and the team working with them are just amazing. They have really hyper jumpy songs and then slow jazz sexy songs and a mix of in between and I just can't get enough
They produced "Attaboy" and "Kingdom Come" too! Their production credits are beautiful. They should be very proud of themselves! They've created a lot gems throughout their career! :)
I wonder what they thought when they saw the MV and Red Velvet performing their creation
loli yeah same like what was their initial reaction
loli would be nice to see their reaction🤔
"We made music for legends"
And what they feel when it hit 100m views the fastes among all red velvet songs "0"?
They were probably debating who they thought was the most beautiful since they probably don't know what a 'bias' is.
YESSSSSS RED VELVET THEY KILLED THIS SONG THANKS FOR MAKING IT
This style suits Red Velvet SO MUCH!! Seriously it’s like The Stereotypes found their match and Red Velvet too
people should have this for every song as a common thing. the people behind the famous songs in kpop aren't recognised and they really should be. these guys are amazing
It's been half of the year but still Bad boy is my jam
Time-flies soo fast :)
indeed soty
deym! same here!
Samee
Ji Rim Sung me too! i dont even like rv before but because of this song i grew to like them. anyone could fight me with this but i think bad boy had to be the best music sm have got to produce really interesting music
RED VELVET???? 👀👀👀👀
Kimi Tokki you were first comment
Kimi Tokki dis sum gud shit
Ye
I love red velvet so much I went to their fanmeet in Chicago
Kimi Tokki lucky you👊👊👊 im still hoping they will go in my country
Love Yourself First I hope they come to your country too!! I’ll hope extra hard for you ❤️❤️❤️
It's been a year now. Make another DECONSTRUCTED for Psycho!
I love how they said they were allowed to play with the sound. I didn’t like kpop before, but recently it took hold of me and now won’t let go. Kpop is both familiar and unique, and letting them play with the music lets them come up with these songs that burrow in and refuse to come out. I think this song and other kpop songs have rewired my brain. Haha
They basically clarified just what exactly it is that makes K-Pop so much more interesting than American pop music for many people: it's the musicality--the more interesting melodies and more complex harmonic structures and progressions, unconventional song structure, blending of different genres, etc. American pop music used to have those qualities in the past, but in the past couple of decades it's been dumbed down so much and we almost never hear the same level of musicality anymore here that's on the same level as current K-Pop.
Very well stated
i mean yea sure you dont hear those type of music on american radio stations anymore but theres still a lot of lesser known american/western artist that has been doing exactly that
Dang, you're very eloquent!
Exactly!
Agreed.
I’d like to take a minute to honestly think this crew for making one of my favorite Red Velvet songs ever. The beat was something so different from what I’m used to with them, but I loved it as soon as I heard it. It was really cool to see what goes on behind the scenes in making this song!
"Bad Boy" is my fave Kpop song. Kudos to these guys for the dope track
I hope Stereotypes create another bop again in red velvet
WIsh they did a Deconstructed for Kingdom Come. One of the best b-sides EVER released tbh. The vocals, the harmonies, the music, just all genius!
That whole album is amazing.
Yes!! That song is perfection!
I wish we could bring 90s R&B back and they did it with Red Velvey
Red Velvet This group is so versatile they can go to slow 90's rnb funk "Look" to hip hop Rnb "Bad Boy"🎶😍👌
Ikr the producers are extremely talented.
Great producer+great performer=song of the century
That's right!
i love how many additions were added just from one bro fooling around, another bro listening in and going “yo thats dope” and bro one being like “:) ok i’ll keep it”
Wow this was amazing, and red velvet has the best music out there, their vocals are insane and they are beautiful ladys !!!!
EZB fr fr
who dat who dat who dat boy
Do check out Red Velvet’s side tracks, “Kingdom Come” & “Attaboy”! Produced by them too! :)
As a musician I would love to hear more from Kpop producers and how they come up with their instrumentation. They are the unsung heroes of the industry. You can have the most talented group who can sing, dance, and charisma you can see from space--but their success heavily relies on choosing a producer who knows what they're doing.
so true! i started becoming a red velvet fan after watching this video bcs i saw how unique RV's sound is. but yeah, the unsung heroes are the Producers TT
one of rv’s best song on one of the best series im so happy!!!
This was so insightful and enjoyable to watch. The Stereotypes did an absolutely amazing job. 90's R&B works so well for K-pop particularly due to how important vocal harmonies are for groups.
no wonder why this song end up to the top 100 best song 2018 billboard version... red velvet's bad boy such a masterpiece!!
Bad Boy made me stan Red Velvet instantly (the song and RV’s vocals are a perfect combination). Kingdom Come is a god tier RV bside. Hoping they will produce more R&B songs for Red Velvet. 🙏
it's the other way around for me. 😊
Kingdom Come made me stan Red Velvet. I prefer it over Bad Boy since i like old school R&B more. Bad Boy is more of a modern R&B pop.
i like both songs tho. Kingdom Come is my fave, Bad Boy comes at a close second 💖💛💙💚💜
actually these guys produced both Bad Boy and Kingdom Come ❤
s k c yep. I like Kingdom Come more than Bad Boy, too. Just among the popular title tracks that i listened to when i first came across red velvet, it was Bad Boy that really made me want to listen to more of their discography and thanks to that, i found gems like Kingdom Come hehe. Their r&b velvet side really is my favorite
i just live for so many of rv's songs because they truly stand out to me among a lot of pop songs theyre just so varied and interesting
this was VERY detailed......enjoyed this one alot
one of the best songs in kpop to date! Thanks for giving Red Velvet this iconic song!!
This whole group of producers is so wholesome and supportive of one another's talents. That kind of energy creates the best collaborations.
aw dang i wanted to know at what point they decided to put in the "ooh ooh" and the sound of clicking heels and sirens
wanderlust ëlly the clicking heels in the song are the worst
They don't sound bad, really the little details, weird sounds, give the song its uniqueness
They can't give away everything. It would be like KFC giving away their 11 herbs and spices
running away you can barely hear it with the lyrics, I think it’s nice
those were probably added by the SM producers
bad boy made me become a red velvet fan :) thanks to these guys :) hope they can work again with red velvet
3:37 this sound feels like it's pulling if that makes sense
Bad Boy is definitely my favorite Red Velvet comeback. The song, mv, choreo, outfits, everything is perfection.
1:53 the moment that changed history
That ironic moment when this song is one of the two first kpop songs played legally in North Korea.
+Aayisha Tabassum Yes and the fact that the chorus is "Bad Boy Down" is really ironic.
Damn...didn't see them showing up on this series lol...This was way more helpful than watching interviews of some trap music producers who only go like, "Yeah...and I made some hi-hats...and yeah that was it. I don't know."
howzitbrad or the clicking heels. although some fans found it annoying i thought it was a nice touch and would've loved to know the reasoning behind it
Fr. Glad they actually explained their process
عسل م I don't get why some fans find it anoying. The siren blends very well with the oo-eee-oo part on the chorus
I can now hear the clicking heels and siren after reading these comments lol, tbh it blend in well so it dont really matter
howzitbrad the reason why there are these siren sound in the chorus is explained in rv's digital booklet I think
Holy Shit! That's why Bad Boy by RV is fucking addictive. Mad props to The Stereotypes!!!
진심 케이팝은 레드벨벳 비트랑 멜로디가 최고야ㅜㅜ
these producers are really good bad boy of red velvet is a good mix of 90s with the modern. they literally started a trend of a type of music in korea because of the success of bad boy now more companies in sk are aiming for this type of music.
I NEVER thought we'd see kpop on Genius. The genre has really come so far, as a long time kpop fan I'm so proud!! also bad boy is THAT song
OMG no wonder why Bad Boy - RV became one of my fave songs. It's just soo good and catchy. Definitely my only fave song from Korean girlband
Thank you for serving us this bop. It was a banger! I love Bad boy with RVs vocal but the instrumental was my favorite of Bad Boy. I always love the instrumental, it's soothing with a dangerous vide in it. Been a #reveluv ever since.
Same! Crazy To think I found this only today! Hope they decide to work with SM again. This song actually got me into kpop 2 years.
Kpop ♥️♥️♥️
Boi you are the OG. Lit beats
I respect you a lot, dude
Agreed
THAIBEATS KPOP IS THE BEST
This is brilliant. You know, I've noticed Western producers always say that Kpop is very musical and that you can experiment much more when producing a Kpop song. Even in that Rolling Stone article about Western producers who worked with BTS, they often mentioned that. Interesting.
Since kpop companies work a lot with American/Western producers, I hope to see more Deconstructed videos like this.
SexyPornStar I think it helps that Hanguk can easily blend to any melody. You can break down the words and scramble it around and it will still make great lyrics. So yeah, producers are given alot of freedom to roam any possibility with their sounds.
Yo Han is that so? Interesting, i'm always thinking maybe hangul is the most flexibel language to put into lyrics in any song genre. Rap, check, ballad, check, r&b, check
Fatma yeah you're right on that. Also like think of every nursery rhyme, choir song, or famous song, there's a Korean version for it.
I mean I guess it applies to any language too. But they sometimes don't match as well as Hanguk
SexyPornStar please link that BTS article to me!!
I really want to see Psycho deconstructed now! Imagine the process! Especially for the orchestra version!
The production on this is incredible. Can see why it has such cross over appeal and why it’s popular with the newer fans.
i really wish western music the kind of melodies the kpop industry thrive off.
Especially when 99% of this is western inspired. It's there but it's very hard to find in the pop scheme, when in kpop you can find a pretty interesting sound with ease.
Um we already did that with the 70s,80s,90s y'all must forgot kpop is 90% western influenced.
there is western music like this, you just gotta look for it. obviously wont be in mainstream but theres a lot of music like this
Uzi?
@@AreYouFNQRAZII The Uzi and Bad Boy mix on soundcloud goes hard af
I LOVE THUS, bad boy was on repeat for months so I’m so glad these wonderful men were able to create a masterpiece :’))
I still remember listening to Bad Boy for the first time, I was INSTANTLY hooked. I can't find a sound like that in the states. These guys are partially responsible for getting me into Kpop. Thanks a ton, y'all.
This is one of THE greatest songs in Kpop, in my opinion. Great job, Stereotypes
I thank these people for the bop of 2018
it's so nice to finally can see the faces behind the names we always see in our album credit. thank you so much for making awesome songs!
ugh i LOVE hearing the "backbone" of the music industry that isn't really heard or deeply discussed all the time!! they made an AMAZING song and red velvet is such a great group that deserves so much recognition!!
literally watching this gives me the goosebumps, these great people made my fave Red Velvet title track...
Dangg this is dope...Waitt arent they the one making the glorious "kingdom come"..it would be nice if they deconstructed that song too..but that one is just a bside..but if can, it will be pretty dope!
deeya at the moment YESSS!!!!! They should deconstruct that too!
Kingdom Come is definitely dope though I'm partial to I Just. Though the simple production probably doesn't warrant a deconstruction.
'i just' was produced by hitchhiker tho. the aluminium foil man..XD
"Kingdom Come" is a Godsend blessing straight from heaven. I still love hearing the instrument teaser for it cuz that bass line + kick hits too good. Ahh i would love to hear insight on the making + inspiration behind it.
I wanna hear Attaboy. It's underrated honestly.
Bad Boy is 2018's BOP. Hearing it in headphones is heaven in my ears
In 2023 still obsessed with this song. So thank you bros
This is why bad boy is the best K-Pop song in 2018
