Great question! If we ordered these grinders from highest retention to least it would go like this: AllGrounds, Atom 75, Specialita, and then Oro Single Dose with almost no retention.
I would like to comment; I weigh for single basket; 9.5 grams and weigh again after the grind. That shouldn't be a problem? Yes/no. My roaster tells me that burr grinders are never the same from one grind to the next. Is there a better type of grinder?
Hi there, you can definitely "single dose" by weighing for each shot then grinding through that. There can be very small discrepancies in grind from grind to grind with a burr grinder but they shouldn't have anything approaching a noticeable effect on your shots. If you are noticing inconsistent taste I would say it's more likely a tamp or machine issue.
So wait, this video is titled "BEST Espresso Grinders for Former Baristas!", yet you don't recommend the Atom 75 because it's "Too fast for beginners" ?! Or no mention that it never clumps, so you don't need to use WDT with it... And as @back_to_the_bike8820 mentioned, no notes on the actual taste in a cup for any of them?! You know... the whole point of a Grinder 🤦♂
In this video we are specifically talking about each grinder and it's functionality/workflow. The reason Sean mentions that the Atom 75 is too fast for beginners because 'former baristas' captures baristas of all levels which is why we provided 4 different grinder recs in this video. A tasting is a cool idea though, we will definitely incorporate that more in future videos!
What about result in cup ? With witch il the best espresso (the one you prefer and why)?
This is a great idea! We will incorporate more tastings in future videos. Thanks for watching!
You mentioned the 75 grinds so fast, dialing in means more coffee waste. Is the same thing true if you slow feed it,?
Retention for all four machines?

Great content. Now, how about grinders for people who are less fortunate and are unable to afford them?
Check out our Top 3's series over the years! We always have a video that talks about the best espresso (or coffee) grinders under $500!
