  • In what has now become a tradition in the BITY family, we molded my youngest daughter's hand to make her a silicone hand. Her older sisters both have a copy of their hands in silicone, so she just had to have one! In this tutorial we cover the basics of mold and casting into an alginate mold using new PlatSil FS-10 silicone. We also cover the process and materials for pigmenting silicone to create realistic flesh tones. As mentioned in the video, here's a link to our video page with silicone painting and casting tutorials: www.brickinthe...

Thanks, but this really is a fairly simple process. All my kids now have spare silicone hands.

I already feel sorry for the guy who one day comes to ask her hand... :D

A funny prank would be to give the finger while your hand is in the mold, and since its alginate nobody would know until its demolded.

You should do a live stream doing this .. just to show how it is.

If you weren't making a one-off silicone cast what would be a good material for the mold instead of alginate that could turn out a good number of detailed casts without degrading? Could you use silicone to make a blanket mold (with a hard resin shell) and just hope that a good coating of mold release will prevent the silicone blanket and the cast don't bond?

I put a link to our silicone prop page in the video description. There is a resin mold method as well as a hydrocal mold tutorial on that page. A PlatSil mold would also work provided it was properly released with 2350.

Thanks! I made it on the Zazzle! Since I don't keep up with sports I made a generic shirt that helps us all blend in.
