  • My Baby Left Me was recorded by Elvis Presley while he was on the Sun Records label with Scotty Moore on guitar and Bill Black on double bass. This week's video is a lesson on Scotty's unique rhythm guitar playing, next week I'll be teaching the solo. Get hip!

Such a great song , simple chords and great rhythm, I feel the same as you ,one of my all time favourites and Scotty Moore is one of the best.

Hey Mat - I agree with you this is one of the best Elvis/Scotty performances. I was lucky enough as a young rocker to be introduced to it around 1956 by a neighbour who gave it to me on a RCA 45rpm import - it blew my mind. Playing the Sun sessions on iTunes today(5*) I was inspired to investigate Scotty's playing on the track and found your channel. Nice explanation and demo - thanks.

Is this similar to how Arthur big boy crudup did it? I want to learn his version but can’t find anything on it

Hey Tommy, Elvis' version was wildly different to Crudup's version. It's an interesting experiment to listen to Elvis' sun sessions then go back to the original. Elvis had a way of making songs his own, since he started til he died. And quite often Elvis' reinterpretation of a song becomes my favourite.

@@mattdwyerbluesandrootsguit683 I heard Arthur plays in crossnote tuning a lot. Which I’m clueless about. So I’m looking forward to trying this one.

Elvis did not record this at Sun. It was recorded on 30 January 1956 at RCA New York after he had left Sun.
