  • Elvis guitarist, Scotty Moore, takes you through how to play the early King's classics. Rock critic Dave Marsh credits Moore with inventing power chords on the 1957 Presley song "Jailhouse Rock." Moore was ranked 29th in Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. Rolling Stones' lead guitarist Keith Richards said of Moore, "Everyone else wanted to be Elvis, I wanted to be Scotty."

    Scotty Moore comes across as such a gentleman. So many others who would be in his place (his place in the history of rock and roll and the guitar) would take much more credit and boast of their accomplishments. He, on the other hand, seems to imply that anyone could have done what he did... very modest.

    Scotty is talking of America's history, not just Elvis but the life and surrounds of the world he lived in, he is such a great orator you could have actually been in the coffee shop with them. Beautiful interview, the day America turned its head towards rock nd roll. Thanks scotty.

    I’ve been listening to Scotty since I was ten years old in Lubbock Texas. I learned his style most players did, I put Elvis record on and played along with him. When we got on stage, I had to learn it all over again, the other players played with such force, I couldn’t blend in, it took a few years but, I finally got it.

    Have been playing this tune by ear, with no understanding of reading the guitar notes, and it appears there is a sound in the song that d7 is called for to be played. Thanks for the great video.

    There's guitarists and then there's Elvis' guitarist, you can't beat that, I would watch Elvis movie reruns with my Grandma when they came on TV mainly on weekends back in the 70s, Everytime Elvis came on she would turn to me and say 'He's on his own that one', I just thought Elvis was just another singer like any other but it turns out Grandma was right - Elvis is on his own.

    The only clue in this video on "How to Play Don't Be Cruel" is given at 33:48 but learner guitarists need to know that his guitar is not standard tuned. Also, there's some clever editing going on here because when he plays the "chord on the end" he starts to play it up at the 11th & 12th frets but then obviously has to re-position to play the chord at frets 9 & 10. As the song was in the key of "D" he has that bottom "E" string toned down to "D" but unfortunately all the lessons here on RUclips fail to pick up on that one vital element that made the record so distinctive.

      No, Jean-Luc is right, in the about section under the video you have this: "Elvis guitarist, Scotty Moore, takes you through how to play the early King's classics." Scotty doesn't do that, but he rambles on with difficulty for way too long. And no doubt you just stole that video of him for your own use.

    • @katanakeith1
      @katanakeith1 6 лет назад +1

      iVideo, I saw your other video ,"That's alright" and once again I agree with Jean-Luc. Only, in this one, you don't start the damn lesson for 35 minutes. Don't say it's How To Play and then just have a talk fest. You are right about one thing. Anyone that really wants to play, should find actual lessons and use their time on earth to actually learn to play the guitar.
