    Kisumu is in western part of Kenya .
    In post Independence Kenya Kisumu was in Nyanza province .
    Under British Colonization the territories south of Kisumu were considered South Nyanza(including Kisii, Migori), those close to Kisumu, Central Nyanza and those North of Kisumu, North Nyanza .
    Present day Western Province primarily inhabited by AbaLuhya groups was North Nyanza(including Kakamega) . Under British East Africa Kisumu was the administrative capital of Eastern Uganda .

    Kisumu is cosmopolitan with multiple racial and ethnic groups but the Nilotic Luo(peoples of OBAMA, Actress LUPITA NYONGO, Actress SHEILA ATIM of “WOMAN KING”) form a significant portion of the population .
    There is a large population of Asian Indian and most recently White particularly from US have settled in Kisumu, Mombasa and Nairobi(US state department records show that approximately 40,000 from US live in Kenya permanently with at least 300K visiting in 2019 alone) .
    Most recently also Asian Japanese and Chinese investors are present in Kisumu and to a lesser extent Kenyan Arabs .
    Other Kenyan ethnic groups including the neighboring Bantu Abagusii(Kisii), Abakuria(Kuria) and Abaluhya(Luhya) are domiciled in Kisumu .

    The groups around Kisumu Lake Victoria(Largest fresh water lake Africa second largest after Lake Superior US/Canada worldwide) were historically referenced as Kavirondo Nilotics or the Luo(OBAMA,Actress LUPITA NYONGO,Actress SHEILA ATIM of "Woman King" groups) and Kavirondo Bantus or the Luhya(Abaluhya), Kuria(Abakuria), Kisii(Abagusii) and the smaller known Kavirondo(Abakavirondo) who were eventually assimilated by the Luo .

      The Luo also assimilated the Bantu Suba, linguistically, socially, culturally and through intermarriages over centuries hence Luo-Suba of Tanganyika and Kenya .The Kavirondo preceded other Bantu groups in the region .

    Historically the Nilotic Luo, led by skilled warriors such as Owiny and Lwanda Magere, fought several territorial conflicts with their Nilotic Kalenjin neighbors, particularly the Nandi and Kipsigis groups .
    Historically Nilotic groups including the Maasai, Turkana, Toposa, Karamoja, Samburu etc had conflicts over grazing land due to their pastoralist lifestyles .

    • @papd3532
      @papd3532 7 месяцев назад

      But the Luo like other Nilotic groups were pastoralists but also were primarily river lake Nilotes(like other groups along the Nile valley) with extensive boat-making and fishing cultures due to their Origin in the Nile Valley of Sudan/Lower Egypt .
      In addition the Luo practiced small scale farming in the past but at a lower level compared to their neighboring Bantu groups who were primarily farmers .

    In KENYA in 1921 the Young Kavirondo Association was formed with initial members drawn from Central Kavirondo including Kisumu and Busia .
    The Luo(OBAMA,LUPITA NYONGO and WOMAN KING ACTRESS SHEILA ATIM’s Peoples) were considered the Nilotic Kavirondo while the Luhya,Kuria Kisii etc were considered the Bantu Kavirondo .
    The socio-politically conscious founder Members of Young Kavirondo Association were members of the first class that had joined Maseno school in 1907 under JJ Willis .
    The Association were part of anti-colonial movements in Kenya that was later promoted by Luo-Union in Nairobi,Mombasa,Nakuru etc and Luo Thrift across East Africa under Nationalists Oginga Odinga and Tom Mboya of Kenya and Uganda's First president Milton Obote(Luo-Langi) .

      The founders of Young Kavirondo Association were trainee teachers in Maseno in 1921 . They included Jonathan Okwirri of Uyoma as Chairman .
      Simeon Nyende of Gem was treasurer . Benjamin Owuor of Seme was secretary .

      By the second world war WWII the Luo anti-colonial sentiment spread across Kenya and East and Central Africa .
      The British imposed further taxes on their colonies seeking to raise resources due to the aftermath of the war .
      These actions by the colonial government prompted Young Kavirondo groups opposition to White rule through the clarion call of "Piny Owacho"-the people have spoken .

    • @papd3532
      @papd3532 7 месяцев назад

      After WWII in 1945 the Young Kavirondo Association representing the demands of the Luo against the colonial government issued a memorandum to the governor . This included establishment of an independent legislature for Kavirondo . Reducing the hut tax .
      Abolishing forced ID or Kipande that was needed to travel across towns .
      Removal of the British Crown Colony in Kenya .
      Establishment of a government run school in central Kavirondo .
      Removal of forced labor requirements and labor camps Kavirondo and Kenya .
