I wear Black all the time and I get comments like " you're not a widow are you" and much worse and when one says something then I'm attacked by several women....I also get complements..I wear a lot of Eileen Fisher...so you know that they are an elegant style... this lady shows the same type of things I wear....and she has good ideas ....

When I was five, mom took me shopping for a dress and swimsuit and asked what color I wanted. I replied black! She was horrified and thought I was depressed or something was really wrong. No, not at all! I just loved black from an early age and still do in my sixties . My early fondness for the color may have been from my pre ballet class where we were required to wear a black leotard. I was in love with the class and the leotard. Long live black!
I actually had to check and see whether I had written this post a while ago, if the video was an older one. I had the same experience with loving my black leotard in ballet class. When my mother took me shopping and I asked for black, she to asked me if I was depressed. I wasn’t, I just knew that I liked black and it suited me! I have pale white skin with dark brown hair, a Winter on the fashion color palette. She taught me to accessorize black with scarves and jewelry, so that it was more interesting. I wonder how many of us black wearing women first had our love of black while in ballet classes?
I felt ultra classy as a 3/4 year old in my black one piece with a big white button...and I stopped in my literal tracks at that age over a navy velvet dress which I wore till I couldn't. I get it!
When I was in my early 20s, I discovered that black clothing, tops in particular, were flattering on me. 35+ years later, my wardrobe continues to have black items. Although I have a classic beige trench coat, my favourite one is my black one! And, I love to jazz up a 'black look' with patent leather (aka shiny) shoes!
I wear black midi dresses , tops, and pants almost exclusively but I'm sooo bored with myself. The 'Before and After' photo comparisons demonstrate exactly what you're talking about and seeing really IS believing! I've gotten so much from your videos and am thrilled to have found your channel. Black my my blonde POP when I am blonde. Also, you can get white marks off your black clothes by rubbing another black fabric (like a black towel or robe) against it. Love black. Makes me feel more beautiful!
Wow, you're lucky! I look in black like I'm a 10 year old Victorian era orphan, my whole family is dead and I'm going to die of cholera, TB and anemia at the same time right on their funeral. So I wear navy instead😅
I did hair for 25 years and I had to wear black every day to work in the salon. I don’t ever wear black anymore. I have a few black cocktail dresses but that’s about it. I live in a very warm desert California so I wear a lot of white cream and light colors

A good friend wore black for years, it totally drained her beautiful Irish complexion! Even with make up! As an artist I was able to help find a range of colors that just popped on her! The additional scarf relieved the problem!
I agree... Black is not for everyone. The old book, Color Me Beautiful shows what is best for your complexion. Frederique is a winter and therefore wears black wonderfully.
I’m an Irish winter, and black is a lifesaver. I have a friend who has spring coloring with very pale blond/gray hair. She loves wearing black because of the contrast with her hair, but her skin looks terrible!
Black is my go to color! I love black turtleneck, black jeans & boots- large textured, silver cuff & silver hoops. Woolite makes a dark color, cold water protective detergent- works great!

Yes!!! A deep navy is great and for me, doesn’t require lots of makeup, colourful scarves etc to wear. It’s my “lazy” black. I also have always loved the idea of black but could never wear it, until 2 or 3 years ago (I am 58 now) and started to let my hair go back to its natural colour (which now has lots of silver hair around the hairline - and OMG, I absolutely love it). Now, I find I can absolutely rock black clothes. Sometimes getting older is a positive…….Ssshhhh don’t tell anyone🤫
Very good points! Since I'm older, I use metallic jewelry around my face to capture light. Keeps me from looking too washed out or over made up. I noticed the chain on your purse had the same effect. I also appreciate how you demonstrated the nude shoes compared to some color and how much better the darker or more vibrant color works.

I love black clothes but I have dark circles under my eyes which even with makeup is still visible and I find the black accentuates the black circles. I can wear it in winter with a scarf. Great tips Frederique!
I always wear black underwear with black and most dark colors, the nude showing through makes us look bulging. I switched to only nude and black underwear and it really simplified getting dressed.

Such a good presentation from a happy wearer of black who owns a lot of black garments and accessories. The rest of us who simply like it and find it utilitarian have to learn that blacks have shadings based upon the fabric, texture, etc. You are so right that even two matte blacks can look unintentionally like different clashing colors if the textures aren't complimentary.

When I worked (commuted to Paris), as I'm exceedlingly clumsy & hate stressing in the mornings, I always had breakfast then showered, applied makeup, did hair, got dressed (clothes & jewellry set out the night before)& finally added deo & perfum. Black is my favourite color. This the most colorful color for me :) When I wear all black outfit I use that to show my accessories first of all silver color jewelries or big (mainly red ) statement jewelries etc. And as you mentioned I add color to my face in these cases. I am the most self confident when I wear black.
One of your best videos - loved it! Black is my favorite color because it goes with virtually everything if you style it correctly. You can dress the simplest black outfit up or down and feel like a million. Black always gives me confidence and is appropriate for almost every occasion. My love affair with black started in my late 30s and I've never looked back. It also looks great with every shade of hair and almost every skin tone I have had from pale with red hair to bronzed with silver hair - yay black!!!

It always amazes me how many shades of black there are: brown-black, blue-black, green-black, etc. Of course, I don’t always realise until I am actually wearing them together, the light catches them and I think, hang on, it didn’t look like that in the mirror this morning! Same with white: cream-white, blue-white, ivory, etc. I have a Celtic complexion, a.k.a. tan like a vampire! Black makes me look pale and faded, even with makeup on, and people have been known to ask me if I am feeling all right when I wear it. I get around it to a certain extent by wearing a colour next to my face, e.g. a scarf or necklace, but I usually feel better in grey or navy blue and keep black for funerals. I do admire it on other people, though, it is definitely an elegant colour.

As l age l find black draining, but if l add sequince, satin, anything with shine it changes the entire outfit. I turn my clothes inside out wash my blacks together dry clothes in the shade. The dry cleaners l use dyes clothes black and navy are the main colours so when ever l see the colours fading l send them in. Navy is slowly becoming my go to colour due to age. Dear Frédérique, I love black and often wear it. Not in order to hide a tummy (haven´t got one yet), but I happen to like dark colors. Black, navy, wine red, ruby red, olive green, chocolate brown, dark cognac. I always wear make-up. Wearing dark colors I make sure I have either some jewelry or more often, I wear a beautiful, square silk scarf. I dislike long, narrow scarves, but a big square scarf can be folded in many pretty ways. Even a small, square scarf with a bow, a "kitten scarf" looks cute. They are close to my face and give my face color. My own completion is very fair, I do not ever get a tan, only burn in the sunshine. With black clothes, I tend to wear either beige, cognac shades, or pale pink. Not candy pink, more like misty pink. A very pale water-green scarf I had on a few times recently also looked rather becoming. Thank you for your interesting videos. Yes, I have subscribed.

Black is my favourite color. This the most colorful color for me :) When I wear all black outfit I use that to show my accessories first of all silver color jewelries or big (mainly red ) statement jewelries etc. And as you mentioned I add color to my face in these cases. I am the most self confident when I wear black.

I love black! It is my super power!
One of your best videos - loved it! Black is my favorite color because it goes with virtually everything if you style it correctly. You can dress the simplest black outfit up or down and feel like a million. Black always gives me confidence and is appropriate for almost every occasion. My love affair with black started in my late 30s and I've never looked back. It also looks great with every shade of hair and almost every skin tone I have had from pale with red hair to bronzed with silver hair - yay black!!!

I always do the " 3 colour rule "... but it lit up when you gave the example of black with two different shades of orange 😍 I never thought about that!! In my head it is two colours with having a little fun 😉 with the second colour 🤭 and it resonates with my persinality!! Will be doing it 😎
Also loved what you said of putting on some gorgeous lipstick if an all black outfit washes you out! I have this shade of red I love to wear when i have all/mostly black outfit since I am not a makeup lady but keep my skin healthy fresh any blush-like is the natural i get from being outdoors or simply happy and cozy ☺️
Cognac colour is gorgeous with black, i gravitate towards it because i see a lot of orange in it, a colour that i have a soft spot for and really suits my skin and overall personality 😊🤭

It always amazes me how many shades of black there are: brown-black, blue-black, green-black, etc. Of course, I don’t always realise until I am actually wearing them together, the light catches them and I think, hang on, it didn’t look like that in the mirror this morning! Same with white: cream-white, blue-white, ivory, etc.
I have a Celtic complexion, a.k.a. tan like a vampire! Black makes me look pale and faded, even with makeup on, and people have been known to ask me if I am feeling all right when I wear it. I get around it to a certain extent by wearing a colour next to my face, e.g. a scarf or necklace, but I usually feel better in grey or navy blue and keep black for funerals. I do admire it on other people, though, it is definitely an elegant colour.

Came across you channel a week ago and want to say thank you bc your videos are my personal way of escapism 😍 As I currently live in China, expats wear exactly the don’t and of unfathomably cheap quality bc here you can get a clothing item for as much as 2 euros. As l age l find black draining, but if l add sequince, satin, anything with shine it changes the entire outfit. I turn my clothes inside out wash my blacks together dry clothes in the shade. The dry cleaners l use dyes clothes black and navy are the main colours so when ever l see the colours fading l send them in. Navy is slowly becoming my go to colour due to age. Dear Frédérique, I love black and often wear it. Not in order to hide a tummy (haven´t got one yet), but I happen to like dark colors. Black, navy, wine red, ruby red, olive green, chocolate brown, dark cognac. I always wear make-up. Wearing dark colors I make sure I have either some jewelry or more often, I wear a beautiful, square silk scarf. I dislike long, narrow scarves, but a big square scarf can be folded in many pretty ways. Even a small,
square scarf with a bow, a "kitten scarf" looks cute. They are close to my face and give my face color. My own completion is very fair, I do not ever get a tan, only burn in the sunshine.
With black clothes, I tend to wear either beige, cognac shades, or pale pink. Not candy pink,
more like misty pink. A very pale water-green scarf I had on a few times recently also looked rather becoming. Thank you for your interesting videos. Yes, I have subscribed.
