After A Long Day In Pokrovsk (18 December 2024)
What you see here are the results of a long day working in the most dangerous city in Ukraine. The faces and lives you see here were taken out of a city that is filled with nothing but uncertainty as the Russians are literally hundreds of meters from the edge of the city.
Many of these animals are absolutely terrified and traumatized based on the conditions we found them in. The puppies are fortunate that they don't know the life that many of the others do. They will never have to find out the horrors of it, either. These animals have lost their families, homes, and lives as they knew them.
Some of them, like Skype, have been reunited with their owners who could not evacuate them. Others have been transported to other groups within Ukraine to search for new homes for them. And for several of them, they will be transported out of Ukraine by ‪@AnimalRescueKharkiv‬ to partner organizations who will then find loving homes for them.
We hope that Pokrovsk is still in Ukrainian hands when we return in February. ARK and 12 Вартових are going to continue answering requests in the city while we have rotated back to the US. We just pray that there will be a day when we do not have to go into places like Pokrovsk and take the risks we do to save their lives.
Until that day comes, we will continue to take those risks

Where do they all end up?

They hopefully go back to owners once we evacuate them. They go through Animal Rescue Kharkiv who will make arrangements to reunite or rehome the animals both in and out of Ukraine
