This man is INCREDIBLE- he did a special video message for my terminally ill sister in law last year/ something I will never forget! Not just an amazing musician but an incredible human ❤️
Beautiful. My mum is terminally ill and I know of three people recently who passed too young from cancer. So glad he is one of the good ones. I adore his music and his songs have helped me through hard times too Xx
I don't think there is a better 6 minutes on RUclips than this, imagine writing a song this good and giving it to the world. Incredible performance of an incredible song,
@@roballen6595 well he did the same at the concert and DG laughed as if he wasn’t expecting it, but I’m not sure now having seen this? Brilliant either way 👍
How his head hasn't fallen after all these years of bobbing side to side I'll never know. This song sounds as great as it did when it was first released
Went to a David Gray gig back in the late 90s, Civic Hall Wolverhampton. I was blown away by the drummer, absolutely mesmerised the whole night. So tight, so good, he was killing it back then and ever since. Clune is a legend!
Don’t know David Gray much at all, but happen to see him last weekend, and the drummer here now just does his second set in concert. I was definitely focused on his unique and interesting style, very entertaining.
Clune is one of the reasons why and how white ladder was created. That album was a joint effort and he shaped the sound. Both very Incredible musicians
David in a full pinstripe suit, big dumb grin like a little kid, Craig in a Hawaiian shirt jammin out with the brush sticks like he's in a metal band, and a full orchestra filling the room with sweet resonating heartache. It's exactly what is perfect about David Gray's music. Absolutely perfect.
Same here, I was on a 6 month tour in Kosovo with 45 Commando, girlfriend played silly games while I was gone, we split up ... reconciliation happened once home on leave at Xmas, we went to watch David in Blackpool live, Christmas of 2000.... so many memories, being a young lad, young love... feels like yesterday
Super emotional to see him embody this track with so much emotion after so many years... so beautiful, thank you David Gray, and every player in that room.
This was one of a number of songs that have been meaningful to me and my beloved sweetheart. She passed last month after a 4 year dance with ovarian cancer. Lots of memories that music conjures up at any given moment that remind me of what a gift we were given to be with each other.
Awww beautiful. Great to see him getting his groove on at the end. This song (the whole album in fact) was the soundtrack to my divorce. I can now listen to it again with nothing but appreciation for what a fabulous performer David Gray is. Thank you David :-)
This is one of my favourite songs, and for it to be played like this live is so emotional for me. Pulls right on my heart strings...personally. what a performance, the best 👊👍
I've been watching a few different videos of this song and I can't help but notice people's comments are of two varieties, they relate the song and it's emotion to some sort of sad memory they have, or they relate it to some sort of happy memory or time in their life. I think what's beautiful about the best love songs is the fact that they truly portray love as it really is, both deeply saddening and wonderfully beautiful at the same time. having personal love is one of the best things we can ever have, which makes it one of the most wonderful things but what's truly horrible is the fact that no matter how great our love for another is, it's the fact that one day it will end. but it matters not that it ends, I believe it matters more that it happened at all.
How beautifully true.. I can honestly say Ive had a few relationships in my life and there are a few who are timeless in the gratitude I have for having that experience ❤
It's a song I thought was about a girl. Then one night I heard it and listened closer to the words and it got me thinking about my faith again. Been a lapse catholic for 30 years. I'm defo going back to mass now. Beautiful song.
My favourite David Gray song! When it played yesterday l was singing it to my one year old grandson. My eyes were filling up, as some of the lyrics seemed so appropriate! Looking forward to the Cardiff show!
Memories come flooding back from 23 years ago, ironing my lime green Ben Sherman shirt and white jeans, on a Friday night getting ready to go out, White Ladder playing on the CD player. ❤️ 🥰 👌🏼 🙏🏼 I still have that original CD in the van and listen to it when I get my lift to the Chinese Takeaway on a Saturday night. Goosebumps. 😌
This song has so memories for me. Reminds me of being young, care free and going through my Mum's music collection, whilst bunking of school. It reminds me of my first time being in love and not knowing what do. Its melancholy, love, anxiety and calmness all in one song. I come back to it everone in a while; im 37 now now and last listened to it 10 years ago. I can see myself doing that for a lot longer.
I remember seeing him with my wife in a little club off regent street I cannot remember the name of. This song was starting to get some radio time and he was on the verge of breaking through. It was a small little club and we stood up on the balcony almost standing over the top of David sat at his piano. It was just brilliant and one of the best gigs I’ve been lucky enough to see. No flashy lights or sound, just an artist full of soul and energy and doing what came naturally.
likewise, its the music , instrumentals that is. i think also his flow and his voice, perfect for a song, hes great ! . i love him . im 30 years old now i remember hearing him growing up . my father is whom it reminds me of .
Absolutely buzzin to see him live again in London!!! Also special mention to Clune🤙 what a special drummer he is. Can’t wait to see them all live again.
The good times. The bad times. This song and the whole album bring back great and sad memories. Ex girlfriends. Old friends. It’s crazy how a song can just make some memories so so vivid. I love it still...even more so after all these years.
Absolutely beautiful David... still a clear & heartfelt song, as it was in my 20s all those years ago.. thank you, looking forward to ya been in Dublin 😉🌟
I was driving when David came on the radio. I have always loved David and this song. But this time I burst into tears and had to pull over. David, what did you do to me?
Oh Mr Gray!! Melts me with this gentler version! And ignites me at the end of concerts as he closes with high octane version. SUPER FAN OF THIS GANG!!!
Amazing how certain songs will only work with a certian vocal, His raw rasp he has is just perfect, Some tracks just take you on a journey, Be it joy or pain etc, Absolutely beautiful song that has took me on an emotional rollercoaster many times.
It still like chocolate his music, the instrumentals and the memories of what seemed like simpler happier times, back in mid 90's in Dolans in Limerick.
I've seen Dave live over 20 times. He's amazing and so humble. I would love to meet him. His music and lyrics have helped me more times than anyone will ever know, especially through when both my parents and my brother passed away. Also at the best times of my life. Thanks Dave! You're an absolute star! See you in Glasgow at the end of May 22 xx
This is the ultimate session of the piano room numbers….l just love David Grays passion in this beautifully sung song…. nobody could not sit still with all this beat and expression of deep love

I perfectly remember first time I hear this song. Smoking under the stars on the beach in ko samed, thailand. Music came from the beach bar and even stoned I reached the barman to asked what was this wonderful melody... lacrime...

and the song just came to him at a dinner party at his home..just like that.
Ugh. I’m always entranced by this tune!!!
The first time I heard him a long time ago I fel in love with is music 😊😊😊
ruclips.net/video/uGm5z8sJAFM/видео.html watch this version for me it’s by far the best one. The outro is phenomenal
In the same bracket as Tom Chaplin, both leading 90's musicians ❤
Great to see Craig McClune killing it on the drums 👏
Superb i wonder if he just did those fills or if David knew he was going too
Brilliant wasn’t it
just seen him live in Dublin last night... the drummer is on another level 😊
Glad I found this comment as I was thinking, who’s the drummer
@@roballen6595 well he did the same at the concert and DG laughed as if he wasn’t expecting it, but I’m not sure now having seen this?

😂
This is off the charts! It lands so softly but cuts so deeply. One of the best live performances I've heard. He's still got it.
This song still slaps in late 2023, and the orchestra really sends it
it still slaps in 2024, it'll slap thru all the coming years.
Timeless
Never heard of him or the song untill an hour ago but I love it
The drummer is killing it!!!!
CLUNE is key to the sound! Respect
Went to a David Gray gig back in the late 90s, Civic Hall Wolverhampton. I was blown away by the drummer, absolutely mesmerised the whole night. So tight, so good, he was killing it back then and ever since.

The drummer deserves credit too, epic
yessir!! That's Russ Lawton. He's an animal. Been enjoying him with Trey Anastasio Band for years and years now.

Who’s the drummer then? Anyone anyone ?…. Anyone?
Sure does

Heard this at work yesterday lots of memories flooding back to me , odd a mixture of sadnesses/ happiness , David gray I salute you 👍

Music is amazing, isn't it? It truly touches the soul
He is genuinely brilliant isn't he, white ladder has aged beautifully 👌
Probably the best album put out over the last 30 plus years…
I'm never not in awe at the drumming on this song. Clune is a legend.

I’m the opposite. That album was the soundtrack to falling in love and now we’re at the tail end of the marriage I find it very hard to listen to.
so, single?
So beautiful just perfect. Thank you so much for your lovely music. Love Catherine mocha xxxxxxxx 💋💖😊😘🎶🎧
Nodding and smiling in that ‘yep, I get it’ kinda way. White Ladder saw me thru some mad times ✊
Pre-internet days, kind of...
I remember hearing this song for the first time, holding my newborn son in my arms and feeling very blessed
Just when I thought David Gray couldn't get any better he adds an orchestra. Beautiful 💖
OMG look who's on drums. Awesome 👍
CLUNE is an absolute LEGEND!

I’m 19.. somehow I stumbled across David Gray and I’ve gotta say, he’s a top artist for my list of favorite musicians.
heard this track by pure accident listen to it everyday now wonderful stuff
Absolutely bloody brilliant
One of the most under-rated talents. Phenomenal.
Define ‘underrated’? White Ladder has sold over 3 million copies and that was back in 2015……was one if the best selling albums of the 2000’s.
