- Here in Part Two the raspberry jam is made and bottled and I get very confused between black currants, blackberries, syrup and jelly and my brain freezes entirely.
“I’ll tell you the truth about this rhubarb: some of them are plums.” 😂😂😂
Totally late to the game, but if you're ever in possession of much rhubarb again, orange-rhubarb marmalade is fantastic. Oh yum! Let me know if you'd like the recipe any time. Loving your videos. Thanks.
I add rhubarb pieces to soups and stews, adds fiber and texture and a teeny sour touch.
I love those wax covers - never seen them before - we melt wax into top of jar - I was wondering why you were filling them up to top - we left space for wax. My Granny taught me how to make jams and jellies and I have her wax melting kettle (granite ware). I love the smell of jam making!

GEE WILLAGERS KATE..... SURE DO WISH I WAS THE NEIGHBOR COMING TO CALL ON YOU. I JUST BET YOUR WHOLE HOUSE SMELLS LIKE HEAVEN ALL YOU NEED IS A FRESH LOAF OF HOME MADE BREAD. BUT SERIOUSLY IT WAS VERY GOOD THAT YOUR NEIGHBORS KEEP A EYE OUT FOR YOU
Signing off Scott's wife Vickie
I have never seen the wax application. Clever. I have always had to carefully melt blocks of solid paraffin in an old double boiler.
Growing up in the 1950s-1960s, I remember our jelly having wax! I began trying to figure it out & suddenly you began using it! Thanks!
I love the idea is using the upside down stool for straining the black berry juice. Growing up in Alaska we had a huge hook in the ceiling of the utility room for hanging the jelly bag overnight, but our home has no such convenient place to do that, but I do have a nice stool so will use that when I make blackberry jelly from the berries in the freezer. I am learning so much from your vlogs, thanks.
Your stained glass window is absolutely stunning! I wonder if you have already shared the story behind it, or if not, would you, please?
Sandra Ponte yes, I have, I posted it to my Patreon page where you’ll find it as a ‘free to view’ video, www.patreon.com/posts/24836227 I think that might take you there - fingers crossed! Xxxx
The closest I've come to making jam is my mixed berry compote, which is lighter in sugar and thickened with a cornstarch slurry. It is not shelf stable though, must be refrigerated.
I was saying to myself, "How on earth is she not getting jam on her fingers?" So, one person's "mess" is another person's "tidy." Super educational video!
Kate do you have the name of the wax disc you cover the jam jars with...thanks so much❤❤
💕My favorite!! Raspberry
jam , it looks delicious! you are a joy to watch! thanks for sharing.
Jainy Murrphy what a lovely comment! Thank you 😊I’m so new to this RUclips malarkey, but I’m so enjoying it. You made my day! 😘

so interesting to watch how you can jams in the UK. So different how I do it putting them in a waterbath with canning lids
Kate do you not put lids on top of the wax on your jam?
Oh plum and rhubarb with vanilla custard. Yummy
I love watching you ,and have made some of your delicious recipes . It’s good to see a home cook rather than seeing professional cooks who are really only promoting their restaurants, so thank you.😀
Strawberry Rhubarb jam is fabulous! If you have a chance to make it, do! You’ll never speak ill of rhubarb again…
My favorite pie is strawberry/rhubarb
Yuuuuuummmmm! My mum puts vanilla in her strawberry jam, it is divine. And that window is stunning, I'm jealous!
Sara S I made strawberry and vanilla jam last year, that addition seems to elevate it into a new dimension! 😊
@@thelasthomelyhouse Try adding one brown or caramelized banana to your strawberry jam. So delicious and addictive taste.
Raspberry Rhubarb syrup is so yummy. I grow both. French vanilla ice cream with a drizzle of syrup in the summer time or in sparkling water...so good.
I did canning yrs ago and loved it.
“Free the jam.” I love your sense of humor and generosity of spirit.
I make blackberry jelly myself. I’ve enjoyed watching you make your jam. You are an amazing lady. I enjoy all the things you do. I also quilt and paint in acrylic. Thank you for sharing your wonderful life experiences.
Did I spy a pink sink? COOL
I make jam every year and am amazed at how little mess you made. Usually by the time I am done the kitchen and I all need to be hosed down. Your preserves are beautiful.
💜👵🇺🇲 😊
I have made jelly once in my life. What a hot, sticky job. It was muscadine grapes. Really was good.
I once spent New Years Eve making Apricot jam as I didn’t want the fruit going bad. I’m in Australia and we were having a bit of a heat wave and the tree was dropping all its fruit.
How wonderful that you are making all that jam and jelly for family and friends. It would have been a shame to waste it all.
IStew my raspberries, then strain the pips out and then proceed making the jam with a jam sugat. I never ever use the wax paper.
Slipping jam! I love it! Anyone who's made jam has made that at least once...
I think maybe the crust of sugar I found on top of the found jam was actually wax. Interesting. I never ate it anyway!
You are so warm and welcoming, I feel like I'm right in the same room. I will be enjoying your RUclips channel very often. Thank you for being so lovely, PS you are a true artist.
thank you so much xxxx that is such a lovely thing to say xxx
I love the way you are always doing something different and interesting when we pop in for a chat. That window how amazing is that! X
I know this is a bit late in the game, but rhubarb with tomatoes and pickling spices make a great chutney.
I bet the kitchen smells divine. Oh it’s been years since I saw the wee wax papers. Lovely.
What a great to honor your mom! 💕
Free the jam. 😃. It looks delicious.
Sheer quality. 🌹
Those wax wafers are super neat, can’t get those in Alberta
Is there a story about your beautiful window about your sink. I love it 🥰
YES! and I will make a video about it soon!!! xxx
I live in Alabama. My indoor days are usually due to heat. Snow maybe once every decade.
Yes I meant to ask about that wonderful, beautiful window. I love it!! Please tell us about it.
WOW!!! That window! So beautiful :)
Jammin'...Bob Marley!
I never seen the wax disc cover on the jams. I put all jars in hot water bath canning.
In USA they do not recommend wax for canning
And a cat. lol, pure joy
Ah, what a fine little mess.
I'm inspired again!!🍓
Your lucky family!
Yum...xo
Remove your sticky labels with a bit of cooking oil. So you won't waste your oil keep it inawaah pail a small enough to lay jars. Then I keep my wash rag, same rag and you can also use your rag to dust your furniture that isn't painted. And you don't have to buy chemicals to polish your nice wood furniture. I keep my pail in the wash room on the shelf nothing happens to it.
Your mother would be very proud of you she must have been a lovely person what beautiful jam
What a beautiful window
