Great crowd work!!! It takes a load of fearless talent to pull off working the crowd and pulling a total stranger up onstage and keeping the banter going and keeping it all hilarious for the crowd and yet not embarrassing the stranger, etc. It's walking a delicate tightrope - and he is sensational at it... or should I say, faaaabulouuus.
When I saw Todd McKenney's wonderful performance in the original Australian production it was so easy to believe I was watching Peter Allen live. Perfect casting. When I watch this I see Hugh Jackman trying to be camp.
If he pulled me up on stage, I would have pretended to faint ( I can pull a pretty convincing stage faint) and when he knelt down to see if I was okay, I would've jumpscared him with the classic opening of the eyes and shouting "BOO!"
