The E60’s v10 was made of glass. But with 3-5k dumped into the engine to keep it from grenading itself, it would be incredible having a V10 manual sport luxury sedan.

But it's a exotic engine, and it is kinda expected. Biggest problem IMO is that it fell in cheap hands that could not keep with maintenance, so that's why many of those V10s went kaput
Oil grade was a big part in bearing failures. Alot argues to thick for cold starts. Especially in climates in northern regions it is also a f1 engine design so to expect reliability from it is a bit foolish lol especially when they list rod bearings as a service item. I believe every 80k. Been awhile
Even BMW's own i5 M60 is about 130 kg lighter than the new M5. By my crude calculations, the hybrid battery in the M5 will weigh around 130 kg. So somehow they've made the V8 powertrain weigh the same as a fully electric car with an 84 kWh battery. I genuinely have no idea how they've managed that.

Some designs look ugly at first sight, but the more you look at them, the more the design actually makes sense and then it might be seen as nice. These BMW fronts simply aren't that.
Nobody shopping for a top level bmw is going to cross shop a ford though, despite how good the mustang is. They’d just get the 8 series which is just a nicer mustang anyways lol

One hundred percent her fault. Some Mustang owners respect the rule of the road and wait to have fun with their cars like on Tail of the Dragon.
Tyler is 100% correct about the 2001 model year and the E38, in general. I had a 2001 E38 short sport and a 1998 E38 short. They were gorgeous and the sport was awesome as a drivers car and the non sport was full on luxury and still pretty good to drive.

In 2001 I fell in love with BMW.. they had a great line-up.. once they went public its been downhill for them ever since. 2024 and 190,000 miles later I’m still rockin’ my E46 with the 5-speed manual.. love the car.. hate what BMW has become today. 100% agree with you and feel the same way. Couldn't agree more with how far BMW has fallen. So I've owned an E34 535i for couple years now. It gets a fair bit of attention from other car guys, but something I've noticed... in 2 years I have yet to get as much as a glance from ANY modern BMW driver.. even M cars. It does make me laugh, and sums it up pretty well.
The pinnacle of my BMW-owning history was an E39 M5 and, honestly, it was all down hill after that. People say the "Bangle era" cars have aged gracefully but... just no. If I was to buy another BMW now, I'd pick either an E39 or... a different E39.

Note that the very first M3 was barely over 2500 lbs. The entire REASON BMW made a name for itself was it was the original sports sedan - big engine in a small car. Technically the very FIRST M series type car they made wasn't badged as such, but was raced - the original 2002 Turbo (Europe - E20 code) 2381 lbs in race spec. About a 130mph top speed but super fast in races due to 170hp in such a tiny car. This new thing is worse than a muscle car - it needs HUGE power and huge brakes and skinny rubber to make it all work. Because it's a 5500lb brick.
My dad got a BMW 320i in about 1976. It ran fine, but an oil change was $300 (in 1976!). You could only buy the filters from them, and they had some Austrian guy who did all the work on the BMWs. He wore a spotless white outfit. The biggest problem was if you got stuck in traffic. The radiator was only efficient at highway speeds and one time we got stuck behind a car wreck for an hour or so and the temperature was at the redline. We got home fine, but the next day my parents were stopping to get some sort of fast food and the coolant line blew out. The coolant had turned into jello due to the overheating.

My biggest problem is not even the weight of it or even the looks. My problem is that BMW went the absolute laziest, dumbest way of designing this car. Instead of developing a powertrain dedicated to this car like before with E39 V8, and the V10, and the first generation of the 4.4 V8. At least they were new engines and powertrain. Instead of doing that here, and going with a naturally aspirated V8 with hybrid system, they just stuck a bunch of electric junk to an existing engine that’s been in rotation for a decade. Absolutely lazy engineering. Nothing more. And that shows me everything I need to know about this car - it has no soul. It just plain doesn’t. E39 had a soul. E60 had a soul. The recent CS had a soul. This? Junk. Sorry BMW, but that’s just truth.

The Bugs Bunny / Bucee's grille is making the Bangle butt look really good. I owned a 2nd Gen X5 and E92 M3 and loved both. Wouldn't touch anything BMW is spewing out now.

I did own a 325i station once. 6 in line in the front, manuel 6 speed in the middle and drive to the back. It was a 2005 model. BMW's were pretty now the are just junk which is a shame.
I thought the Chris Bangle years were a low point in auto design, lower than which they could not go. But I was wrong. The current crop are worse. The weird thing is that all they have to do to know how to deal with the kidney grilles is to take from their own past history.
You've got a Z8....That is the most beautiful car....that will be a seriously expensive vehicle in years to come. Unfortunately they never made them in right hand drive, but the Z8.... you know, it's going to exponentially grow. If I had a Z8 I wouldn't care about anything else BMW came out. My dad had I think it was an 04 or 05 M3 convertible, manual, and I remember thinking how absolutely amazing that car was to drive and look at. BMW has absolutely gone off the rails with their hideous styling. Bangle who was a disaster imo would be a big improvement.

The X3 is the only one what I would consider a good looking vehicle in BMWs entire lineup right now. Nearly 5500 LBS for the M5,, holy shit, my Hellcat Challenger weighs I think 4300 LBS and I thought that was way on the heavy side. EVs are insane with the weight they add. Cute kittens though.

Completely agree. Have had 9 BMWs, from '88 750il to '13 M6 (currently). EVERYTHING new from BMW is ugly. The M3 & M4 can look good (in the right spec), but BMW keeps trying to make them worse. The M8, while a beast, is just not as attractive as the M6. It takes more than a good driving experience! Love the channel!
My Ford E350 XL Econoline ONLY weighs almost 6,000 lbs. It's nearly 20 feet long and over 6 feet tall. It's also over 5 feet wide. It's a massive and heavy vehicle. I genuinely can't comprehend the weight of these electric cars! Do they have lead ballast weighted into the frame? Is it a status symbol to have a sedan that weighs as much as a piece of construction equipment? Strange directions cars are going in these days😮

The E60 M5's oil gauge goes down about as fast as the fuel gauge. There's no dipstick.

Remember when we used to think a Tesla was heavy? The Model 3 Performance is 1300lbs LIGHTER now than the M5. BMW has jumped the shark.
Forget the Model 3, the Model S Plaid is about the same size as the M5, yet it’s 600lbs lighter with 300 extra horsepower.

I drive an E53 3.0 and I used to be a BMW tech. I quit that in 2014 when I saw where BMW was headed.

My Ford E350 XL Econoline ONLY weighs almost 6,000 lbs. It's nearly 20 feet long and over 6 feet tall. It's also over 5 feet wide. It's a massive and heavy vehicle. I genuinely can't comprehend the weight of these electric cars! Do they have lead ballast weighted into the frame? Is it a status symbol to have a sedan that weighs as much as a piece of construction equipment? Strange directions cars are going in these days😮
