This is one of the most musical performances I have ever seen. The humor in some areas was laugh out loud good - and unexpected. Rarely have I EVER heard a kit that was mic'ed so well.

i think that what dream theatre were looking for was a guy who would be able to assimilate new stuff on the fly. but at the end of the day sometimes a more thoughtful approach is better, even if it takes slightly wrong. none of manginis parts really stand out to me : /

Sounds like the Buddy Rich chart of that song, the one Dave Weckl played on during the Burning For Buddy sessions, only with cheap synths instead of a big band. I don't see from the video annotation that Joe Zawinul gets a songwriting credit at all for what I've just witnessed.. .. which is fine as far as it goes, dude can play, but that's really about it. It didn't tug at my heartstrings or move my soul very much at all.
I really like it. Really good stuff. Lots of phrasing and thought put into this. Very technical and fast. I like the songs too. Though they have some happier sounding riffs and a twist on rag time mixed with metal tones and rhythms, I like what they are doing. It is unique and there just packed with talented musicians.

I feel the same way about all these crazy drummers and their half hour solos lol. this is why I dont like technical drumming so much. I think its more fun for the drummer and people who drum than it is for people who actually just want to listen to music

Priester is absolutely amazing at thundering, pummeling metal-style drumming, but that's what he does. If you want all-around drumming, you have to look elsewhere.
