A self build section would be really good and interesting to see especially if you are thinking of giving it a go. Being able to talk to the owners about the reality of how much work, cost and time it all takes would be very useful info for sure. It is something we are going to do a vlog about once we are finished and on the water 👍
@Making a Narrowboat with Nanny and Grandad I ve watched all video and honestly I really think most of your ideas are far superior to a lot of the new produced boats that are very much alike . I really love the hearts with the abalone shells in resin and the colours can't wait to see completed and if possible would love to see her splash and see you both off on a new adventure x
Yes it is quite sad. Lots have hidden damage that would cost to much to repair but many are brought back to life. There are some brave people out their ready to take on the challenge 👍
Thankyou Simon, Yes we see many photographers down here. The power station is due to close soon and if they pull the towers down it will be a dramatic change to the landscape.
That was quite interesting. A very large place with all those...hmm retired boats! Then camping area and new boats and I guess stored boats. Bit of everything.
I really enjoyed this bit of a walkabout around the boatyard. This was a bit of a teaser for the stories you'll tell when Wanderlust is afloat! I'm looking forward to that new adventure!
Wow what a fantastically interesting place, I could spend weeks mooching around it. White Aster 2 would be good weekend fix project, Grandad could do it in his spare time!
Thank you so much for the look around the boat yard and canal. It is a much larger place than I was expecting to see. Nice you can launch from there and not need a crane and truck rental. Was surprised at all the different boats around the area. I had seen the stacks in the background before and on others videos also but seeing the train go by really shows the size they are. The Airbnb boat looks amazing and it’s just started. Hope I remember to look online for it in the future. Love your idea for screens have often wondered why folks weren’t using something. Here in America they are starting to make portable a/c units with batteries kind of like the jackery y’all have over there. I would imagine most would love one in the hot summer months and nights. Looks like you’re getting very close to hitting water. Can’t believe it’s been two years watching y’all. Will definitely miss the building but looking forward to the travel. Susan
Glad you liked it Susan. It does look great doesn't it. Yes everything is down here to build a boat and launch all in one place. Yes the fly screens are working a treat. Oh to have some air conditioning at the moment would be amazing. Lots of people put them in and it may be something we will look at in the future. Glad you are still enjoying watching after all this time 👍
Thankyou Kevin, Yes a real mixture. Lots have been brought here after sinking or abandoned and eventually get scrapped but many are bought and brought back to life 👍
It's a big place eh. Lots of the boats you can see that are completely knackered are ones that have been removed from the rivers and canals that had sunk or been abandoned so thats why they are so bad. I bet they could tell a story or two.
Hi Guys, we really enjoyed the tour around your boatyard, unfortunately ours is also a bit of a boat grave yard... so sad!! Although I wood love to see the 2 of you take on that wooden boat as your next project. Any ideas when you will be on the water yet??
Cheers, Yes I think most boatyards look a bit like this one sadly. lol we love watching wooden boats being restored but i think that is as far as it would go for us🤣. No date yet. We wont give ourselves a date until we are finished. We don't want to have anything still to do once we are cruising. We might not even talk to each other 🤣
Cheers Jean, yes most of the bad ones have been salvaged and brought here after being sunk or abandoned . We are going to be continuous cruisers so wont have a mooring unless we want to leave her for a while and we will then get one just for that short period.👍
Also I just wanted to ask you if the radiators you have are the milano? And to thanks you for your observation when watching our videos on battons for the radiators. Saved us a real headache in the long run x
I am struggling to understand why many of the boats are retained given their state. Are people paying to store these or had they just been bought by the landowner to sell and that has not happened?
Many of the bad ones have been put here after being lifted after sinking or have been abandoned for a long time and they will eventually be scrapped. Lots are bought though by some very brave people👍
I reckon crick should have best self build next year you'll definatley win the boat with with love and fun. Xx

Could cry over some of the boats there. I only saw a couple of boats that were beyond repair

Oh, look!!! Grand-dad has a model of Stonehenge in his workshop.
🤣🤣🤣
An interesting video. The boatyard is surprisingly atmospheric, with such an eclectic mix of craft all overlooked by the power station.
Very photogenic.

Thankyou that's nice to hear 👍

Glad you enjoyed it Tony. 🤣White Aster 2 would be no problem, Just a lick of paint. We should have it done within a few weekends🤣
@Making a Narrowboat with Nanny and Grandad And a bit of sandpaper. It'll look great with a few diamonds and hearts on.

Very nice and the movement of the grasses makes the old narrow’s look as if they are on the water again 👍
Good vlog enjoy the tour round the yard👍👍👍👍👍
Thankyou, Yes it was a perfect day for a walk round 👍
I like the square stern narrow boats. But yours is beautiful.
Cheers Russell 👍
Enjoyed the vblog the seemed some boats that were repairable it is a large boatyard
Thankyou Kevin, Yes a real mixture. Lots have been brought here after sinking or abandoned and eventually get scrapped but many are bought and brought back to life 👍
💙👊😎💙👊😎
Cheers 👍
Theres no flies on granddad great vlog cheers 😊
👍👍👍
very interesting walk around the yard. I never realised it was such a big site. Take care both 👍
Cheers George, Yes it is huge and quite empty at the moment. Winter is rammed with boats 👍
The Odling butchers van came from Navenby shop now closed
Our friends have just bought it and are going to turn it into a campervan. I will let them know. Hope they keep the outside as it is👍
Never realised the yard was so big and so many neglected boats there, such a shame.

Another good episode, sad to see boats neglected. Have you a mooring when your boat is completed Jean x

Well spotted, they are Milano. We got them from Best Heating I think 👍

I deleted my comment by accident. My comment still stands about your attention to detail.
👍👍👍
I don’t think your boat should go in the water, because it will get wet and might get splashed and you will be ever polishing it 😂
🤣yes but think how relaxing all that polishing will be 👍
