He didn't think strength was everything. in the original epic of Gilgamesh, it was his plan to let Enkidu "get busy" with Shamhut as to wear him down a little before they have a fight. In the fight with Humbaba, he also needed strategy. it was also true against the Bull of heaven. Had he kept all of his divinity, he would still be a total prick as he would never know compassion. And giving up a part of his divinity actually served him better throughout his life. people adored him and willing to lend him hands. While its also true that he could've gotten immortality just by accepting his divine inheritage, it wouldn't fit his character. And in giving it up, he gained another form of immortality, to live and adored in the heart of people until the end of mankind. He also gains all the best of human's invention which continuously piling up even without him actively collecting them, a lot of them are made specifically to slay gods. pairing up with Enkidu (the chain), even pure divine beings (or rather, especially divine beings) have to fear him.

Alignments in Fate aren't the same as D&D. It's how the characters view themselves is what determines what their alignment is. Once Gil was summoned in the modern world and realised how lazy and corrupt humans became compared to his era, he wanted to eradicate them and only those who survive are worthy of him to lead in his new kingdom. So his love for humans and his generosity is what makes him "good", but his procedure and execution is what makes him very Chaotic. Hopefully this makes it a bit clearer to understand. edit: Him getting touched by the grail also warped his thoughts about humanity even more hence the difference of Archer Gil being more Chaotic in FSN than F/Zero

I like how this humanized Gil a lot. Powers aside, Gil is one of the most human heroic spirit in fate. He's not some unstopable op warrior like Herc nor a idealistic perfect king like Arthur. He's an average falable human who's given absolute authority and raised as a god king.
You can't get spooked by Gil wtf are you talking about, he is a limited servant so unless you were rolling specifically for him on his own banner you can't get him which also means he can't spook you(no limited servant can spook you)
My only questions with Gil in Fate are as follows: 1. In UBW Shiro wins by getting in Gil's face, "You're a king, not a warrior". Seriously? Gil should have been able to wrestle Shiro to the ground. 2. If Gil learned his lessons from all of this like in the original story, why is he still a douchebag after his death and summoning?

"I've been planning this event since last summer." He also does it during Ibaraki Douji's interlude during a boss fight. Then he does it at the end of Babylonia. He didn't actually summon a servant after all, he just manipulated the rules of the underworld and made himself become an Archer Class servant a little bit earlier than he was supposed to.
