Jamal Wallace (Robert Brown) is an inner-city kid from the Bronx who has an aptness at basketball and a genius at writing. While always a C student, Jamal comes to the attention of a prestigious New York prep school when he scores highly on his standardized tests. While Jamal is given a heavy load at his new school, both he and the school know that the real reason they took him on is for his prowess on the court. Befriended by fellow student Claire (Anna Paquin) and helped along by Pulitzer-prize winning author and recluse William Forrester (Sean Connery), Jamal pursues his dreams both on and off the court while overcoming obstacles placed by his bitter literature teacher. As Jamal is shaped by Forrester, he finds that he is changing the old writer as well, forcing him to confront his past...and his future.

Horrendously underrated movie. Should've won best drama, best picture, best lead (Rob Brown), best female support(paquin), and best male support (Connery). And it shouldve been nominated for best cinematography and sound production.
Everyone in it is an Oscar nominee except for Brown, who was literally a casting call selection tgat ended up the lead. The story of the making of the movie is almost better than the film.
Also, Busta Rhymes steals every scene hes in.
Here here!
@@GregSolongreat take and I agree!
that "Robert, sit down" moment made the whole movie 2 times better😄
That mathcka has been a hater in a lot of movies, dating back from Scarface. Lol
@@jazzyfour right!😂
That Sean Connery did not receive even a nomination for an Oscar for this role is a travesty. Easily one of his best. And my personal favorite of all of his work. Fabulous.
Agreed. I’m a huge fan of Connery but not of the bond films. They were ok just not my thing. I really enjoyed his roles that were supportive. Not that he couldn’t carry a movie, but he had so many great secondary roles.
Actors, all the great ones, act because it is what they love. People will watch this film forever and not give a damn that it nor he received an oscar.
@@twittertwice Especially since Oscars do not indicate what are the best films. The Academy is just as political, even more so, then most other "popularity" awards. Just to give a shout out, Busta Rhymes was really good at his small role in this too. Just great performances all around. Schools could do this film in theater classes.
Yes, I think it was his best performance I remember. He was also good in Rising Sun.
Cool little cameo from Matt Damon in this film too.
Agreed.
Just a wonderful reminder that we need integrity now more than ever
Facts.
he was in the wrong he tried to turn in a writting thtat was not his
@@az21bob666you forgot to mention "with his permission". See it's people like you who put a damper on everything good in life." I hope you live a good life henceforth.
nope go back and WATCH the movie, he USED his writing for part of his paper HE thought no one would KNOW jamal did not know that was published WORK
he DID not have his permission,, and even with pumission it not alound for a paper with out sitations
@@az21bob666 Check scene at 1:32 - gave him to permission to find his own words using "some of mine - Forrester" in return Jamal is not to let others know about his association with Forrester. The words Jamal used were some of Forrester who already granted him permission to do so, hence improving his writing skills. Its like getting an extract from a sentence and being told to create your own story, its a test of one's creative/critical thinking skills. e.g - The cow jumped over the moon - why, how and what happened to cause this. This can be used as an opening of a story or the ending of one.
F Murray Abraham is always such a good villain. Salieri, Omar Suarez, Crawford. Genius.
Haven’t liked him since Amadeus. However that’s what makes him a great actor. Though i admit I have enjoyed his roles as non villains as well. But his Amadeus role stuck with me.
Only problem is, once you watch him perform once, the rest is just about the same, isn't it?
Brilliant actor!
He's a cockaroach...
@@Pasan34 nice
Loved how he excused Jamal infront of everyone acknowledging no discipline action was happening and acknowledging his words were his and giving him credit.
There’s a line where he says that Jamal had the integrity to protect him when he was unwilling to do the same for Jamal.
One of my all time favorite movies. Where have these movies gone??
True word my friend.
Same spot the cowboys and socks went
"I spoke here today because a friend of mine wasn't allowed to."
And then, EVERYONE in that room finds out who that friend of his was. Loved this scene. 🙂
One of the most valuable tools to use in life...all you need in life is taught in this movie...
Classic acting! Classic film!
"HE'S A BASKETBALL PLAYER FROM THE BRONX!"
"Robert, sit down". 😂
rob's 1st acting job. he killed it. excellent movie.
"Finding Forrester..." I saw it a long time ago and watched it a few times after that. I haven't seen in years, though. It is a great movie. The cast was great, the actor who was the lead was very good and the writing...astounding. It's such a gem in the pile of crap that Hollywood has put out the past 25 years ago or so. And the ending of the movie...don't get me started. It's beautiful, happy yet sad but it's one of my favorite endings in a movie. Ever. ❤❤❤
Anna Paquin was absolutely gorgeous in this.
Yes, she certainly was! 😊
An excellent and underrated film. The "burn" was when asked "should you be interested in a teaching position." Crawford was done!
Only F. Murray Abraham and his face could pull off this role in this film. 😂
I watched that movie is many moons ago to pass time and it has become one of my very favorites.
Probably one of the best and most under appreciated movies ever.
@@crichtonbruce4329 Well written, directed and great performances by every actor. Makes you smile and cry.
i watched this movie for the first time today...was i under a rock or something ??? LOVED IT
I love this movie. I always thought of Sean Connery’s character as an excellent writer like F. Scott Fitzgerald. But what happens when we meet a writer with the exceptional talent of someone like Toni Morrison. We should always recognize greatness even when it comes from someone unexpected
One of my favorite movies to watch back in the days when it came out
one of my favorites movies, i have watched it so many times.
Same here and l can never get enough of this movie next time you must invite me to watch.
Loved this movie. Own it! One of the best Connery ever did--in my opinion. Now that's a soup statement!
One of my all time favorite movies.
the actor that played Jamal was such a beautiful guy. and a great actor. I wonder what became of him
one of my favorite movies. Even Busta Rhymes was good in it.
That other black student was such a hater. When everyone else clapped, he just stood there.
Love this movie
Beautiful movie
Once Salieri, always Salieri. 😂
Excellent movie.
Its a very underrated movie. I liked it and have been wanting to watch it again for a few years now. I guess I should make more time.
Top 5 favorite movies...this movie inspired me so much🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Loved that movie
Sad how they treated him as a criminal, no trial, just a judgment. The fact the color of his skin, the area of where he live, judgement, and then with all this, they still ask again are these your words, How easy it is to take someone voice, but the heart will forever speaks true.
.my favorite scene
This was an Excellent movie
That was a great movie.
Emotional Scene…

Ana Paquin holly molly!
I think it's time to watch this for the 10th time. I always fantasized that if I were Jamal, I'd make peace with the angry professor by giving him some for Forrester's books after forrester died, and asking the professor to proofread my forward to the book that Forrester wrote. Part of me would want to tell him to kiss my a$$ on my way out the door, but the "good guy" in me always prevails....
"Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."
I’m actually curious where this trope of the professor who just HAS to crush the dreams of his students comes from. If you were a teacher, wouldn’t one of your greatest joys be to see your students exceed you?
Great movie!
I was a big fan of it also....
Such an incredible movie, but they missed such a great part in this scene... " I'm that one"......
After this assembly was over, Professor Robert Crawford (F. Murray Abraham ) was escorted outside to a waiting helicopter. A few minutes later he was shoved out of the same helicopter with a rope around his neck. He was never seen again.
That happened much later. He left the school in disgrace. So instead of seeking accomplishments in Academia, he decided to chase after easy money and skirts. Unfortunately he ended up outside that helicopter, but that's another story for another movie.
Yeah, I mean its ironic that he always on Jamal's case when the is the real drug dealer in the hood. Could never get why if they hang you, they had to take you up in a helicopter.
❤One of my favorite movies!
Almost no sound 🔊!!!
At least 2 stars, imo!!
That's not a soup question...
Anna paquin is stacked.
Crawford gonna have to resign or retire after that
and you are a misogynist! grow thefk up
Bayerische Motoren Werke
First.
Van Sant's only good movie. IMO
Any reasons for such an insane statement? Sounds like it's just to poke the bear.
Good taste is rare
Elephant was decent. But ya, this was the magnum opus.
Van Sant also directed Good Will Hunting, which in my opinion is one of the best movies ever. RIP Robin Williams.
@@jonadam5505 He's very hit and miss. GWH and this prove he's an Oscar Director. Elephant and others show how far off the rails he can go on a script.
the piggisg professor and basketball player who did not clap went on to die of stds
That's Fightin Woke before Republicans made it an evil concept. 😪
Nowadays we don’t need institutional integrity and brilliance, we have DEI to entertain the institutional Pugs. DEI recipients are the elites version of old world court jesters.
