Creating a cabinet of curiosities - thriftflip bookcase

I bought this bookcase from a family friend for this specific purpose but it took me some time to actually get started on the remake. I am still going to figure out how to paint it for a more rough and worn appearance. It would also look even better with a light inside but I need to do some digging to find one that is cordless.
