I’ve watched these videos a dozen times. Saved my day every time. My 69 GTO was a shell that I e been putting together slowly. But my gaps are much more presentable now. Thank you for taking the time to break it down for guys like me.
Just wanted to say I've watched two of your videos this one and the one on how to adjust the doors properly and I just wanted to let you know that they so far have been the most helpful videos I've found! thank you!
Fantiastic video. The whole series is some of the best I have found. I search your name and chevelle and am never dissapointed. Great pace, great camera detailed camera shots, and great pearls of wisdom that demonstrate you are good at your craft. Thank you.
Thanks I'm about to do a door adjustment on a 70 Monte. I recently cut out cancer (front fender behind wheel) on both sides. Then realized I should adjust the doors before I start on the shims. Thanks your videos are great.
THANK YOU SOOOO BEEEEEEPING MUCH. . .this ish was so hard the first time I did it the car came with no front end so no reference I'm looking at redoing it again soon so thank you this will definitely help!!!
YESS!!!! the Monte Carlo fenders are worse.....rub it in But thanks to you I now know where the problem has been with my drivers fender I got the new core support put in and the front of the fender will most likely need a shim up near the front bolt ...THANK YOU!!
Enjoy your tips in helping to improve the gaps on my chevelle .The technical info on watching for secondary reaction when chasing intial improvement staves off frustration!
I painted my 72 Tuxedo Black, PPG 9300 single stage urethane. The tape is a really good idea to protect edges but i still got some chips on final assembly, the gaps didnt go well because previous owner lined up the quarter panel wrong and it messed up the door and made the fenders uneven on both sides when lining up.
Your exactly right bout the rocker shims and core support shims. Overall body looks awsome. I have a hunch it will be straight enough to paint black. Happy holidays chris.
Yeh like he says below, but I wish someone would do a vid in detail how to remove the front fender. Exactly, boolts, screws etc Im going to try to do my A body have no idea what Im getting into. But I will say yours are the best at what your putting out much more detail. Seems like they all just want to hear themselves talk.
get an assembly manual. They all come off different from the front .. videos like that take a lot of time and will only be watched by a few people.. simply not worth making or I would have them on my channel for sure
Did you end up putting a shim on the doors? i bet I will need some shims up on the front bumper over the core support as well. Guess I will order me a set of shims. Any particular name brand of shims you prefer?
Great video i' have the same problem i don't know how much straight needs to be the bend line from door to the end of the Fender i hope You can help with an advise ir something thanks man
Helped me out I’m doing a GM a body as well 72 Cutlass could never get the panels right. Always had uneven gaps in the hood. Had some long nights and threw a few tools guess what ? Still can’t get those fuckin panels right. It’s always something. Deck lid , 442 hood fenders fix one or two the third would look like crap. Takes patients. One of these weekends I’ll get em right. Your videos I can at least relate to and understand. Ty
Thanks for informal videos. I started with this video to install my new fender and found that the bottom mount, by the rocker is rotted. It’s where the fender slides in and out with bottom 2 bolts. That part that has the 2 bolts is rotted. I’ve tried to look that up so I can replace it but can not find the part. I have no idea what’s it called. If you could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.
I just replaced the inner rocker panels. The part that you see is the rocker cover. The inner rocker is L-shaped maybe 16 ga. You might be able to weld a piece of steel (with a couple holes) to the panel from beneath, if there is anything left. If not, a steel shop could make you up a new one if you can't find a new replacement.
For anyone else doing this, I didnt use the old bolts or shims, you can get a new front end hardware kit with black oxide bolts and stainless shims for like 40 bucks. The new bolts look great on new paint and they replicate the factory markings if you get the right ones
Hi I have a question about ur rust video I have a 78 C10 and has rust around the front window area in the driver side bottom corner would u do thing as ur other video using the kitty hair or cut the part out and Re-weld ? I’ll try to post a video of it hope u watch it so I can get it opinion on it
make a video on it.. it really depends on how bad the rust is and if its structural.. also on the build.. ive wasted a lot of time welding panels in only to sell the vehicle for parts cause i lost interest.. if you have a MIG welder.. weld it.. if not.. do like i did.. i didint have a mig when i made that video
I have no way to adjust doors with the fenders on I am going to have to get the fenders off the doors are way tight wish I had that gap between my door and fender that would great!!
you have to elongate the holes on the hinge side that bolts to the car body. Or either the backing plates in the body are stuck.. I have never seen that so you must not be working on a GM
@@chriscraft77022 it’s a 72 chevelle I got the hinges from opgi the spacing is like 2 paint sticks. I was thinking of adding washers between the hinge and door or should I Waller the holes
no.. don’t do that.. you could break the bolts or bend them.. elongate the holes.. I use this and it works great… I’m not sure where they sell them locally.. www.amazon.com/Tungsten-Carbide-Rotary-Grinder-Diameter/dp/B085T45CBY/ref=asc_df_B085T45CBY/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=459686335106&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1986255372853554620&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061129&hvtargid=pla-962666584697&psc=1

@@chriscraft77022 I just messed around with the driver side, I loosened all the bolts, (found some rust underneath I got to bondo up, but anyways...) I got it to where the door is not rubbing any more... I will keep tweaking it tomorrow. Are you supposed to completely remove the fender? Or can I just adjust with them still on? Also when you mention original bushings, which bushings are you talking about? The body to the frame bushings, or are there bushings for the fender specifically? And thank you for this video. I looked around RUclips and yours was the by far most to the point and thorough. The big budget production guys from those cable TV shows were totally useless...
The body bushings Chris! Good tip. That could be my issue on my 72 Chevelle. I got the fenders looking 90% perfect..and the hood doesn't fit inbetween. Smh. think I'd better start over ☹ Thanks for this video!
people pay big money to learn what you give away in your videos thumbs up to you and your videos sir.

Thanks for making this video bud, I'm looking for a 1970 chevelle as a project right now and these videos will help me a lot once I get going.
You ever find a 70 chevelle to buy?
Thanks man, I got a 1970 Elco that needs door and fender alignment.

Great vid... what did you do to the rockers or the corner of the door to align? Do you ever cut and reshape metal to make them line up? Thanks!
Good video, would have liked to have seen how the gapping is with the hood closed.
So you can use body shims on the front bolts also?
Make sure the radiator support is shimmed right.

no

Great video man, thanks !
Lucky to have lines like that. Try a 72 lemans
the lemans is the same thing... the 72 monte carlo is the car i learned this from
Awesome!
Why didnt you include radiator support? The fenders are bolted to it.
you only raise and lower it.. what would you adjust on the core support?
That was helpful……
Thanks may help with my 56. Bill.
good video will help out a lot
What brand are your pannels goodmark
+Will Elpers they are all original..

*looks more and more complicated

*ah fuck man
Waayyyyyyyyyy harder.. if the car is old the original bushings can make it impossible

the 4 body bushing under the cowl.. if they are too squished you will NEVER get it to line up right

I tweaked alot in the 80s
Would love some advice do you have a Facebook or email? I wanted to send some pics if you have time great video
Def not using good mark fender to have lines to start with like that I have done 2 now and they fit like shit
Cannot b aligned without lot of metal reshaping
its all original sheet metal.. i just make it look new.. and NO metal reshaping at all..
goodmark = good luck on reshaping everything..
Don’t buy goodmark
excellent
