The Origin of the Hausa States

  • Between the Kanuri in the east and the Songhai in the west, and stretching from the Niger-Benue junction to the desert south of Agades lies the home of the Hausa-speaking peoples of Central Sudan. We call them “Hausa-speaking people” because the Hausa are not of one tribe or race. They originated from the mingling of different tribal and racial groups of Negro farmers and nomadic Berbers from the desert, These peoples have been moulded into something like a nation by the possession of a common language and a common culture, but in reality, there is no Hausa race or nation.
The word "Hausa” refers more to the language than to the people. Today, the Hausa language is spoken over a wide area in Sudan as far west as Timbuktu and as far east as Wadi. But in Northern Nigeria, the homeland of the Hausa, it is spoken by over thirty million people. The Hausas are concentrated mainly in the northern part of Nigeria, as well as the adjoining southeastern Niger. They also populate parts of other countries including Cameroon, Ghana, Chad, Togo, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Sudan and Gabon.

No matter how you will try to erase the history of hausa land and hausa people it won't work
Hausa is our ethnicity and we are hausa and nothing more

Please, How can we have a language without an ethnic group?
    Stop this nonsense!
It is like you assume that nowadays there are no arabs, no english men, no french men, no fulanis, no yoruba, no Ibo etc...because all these tribes were a conglomerate of many other tribes around a core ethnic group with a specific language...
Every language is dynamic through New vocabulary construction and loans..
Don't tell me that people of Daura hadn't had a language at the time Bayajida came , otherwise , he would not have been named "Ba ya ji da" which is purely in hausa language.
Another aspect is the use of the term "Negro" which is sarcastic instead of "black" .
Another point is that Islam entered in hausa land during the time of the caliph Usman bin Afan through arabs. A caliph was sent in the name of Umur wasi on the 7th century at the need of Bornu, after Kano and Katsina sought the Islamic religion's knowledge.
Many portraits of Moors with hausa facial scarifications exist on the web. That explain that hausa were mainly part of the army in the invasion of Spain in 711 AD.
Indians historians wrote about Baba Ghor and his companions (hausa merchants of Kano) who introduced Islam in a large part of India in the 15th century or earlier.
Sister of Baba Ghor is called "Mai Misra = Chief of Misra Egypt. She came with an army to help her brother to combat paganism...Supposedly, a part hausa people were on Egypt at that time.
The book on medecine "Tazkiratul Ulul Albab or Tazkiratul Daud" is said to contain chapters written in Hausa language. This Book was edited 7 times in Egypt and the last edition in arabic was made in 1545 AD..
As commercial centers, hausa cities aknowledged the arrival of many traders among them many from arabia.
Hausa armies was very powerful, because one single Kingdom (Kingdom of Kebbi under Kanta Muhammdad Kotal) defeatead two great empires: Songhai and Bornu.in the 16th century...
Amina also, had many Kingdoms who paid her tributes...
I wonder really if you are a black man!!!

Thank you for your detailed response and engagement with the content. The information provided in the video is based on reputable historical texts and sources, including the work by KBC Onwubiko. The portrayal of the Hausa's ethnolinguistic identity is a widely acknowledged historical perspective. It's essential to recognize that the evolution of ethnic identities can be complex and multifaceted, often involving the intermingling of different groups over centuries. The assertion about the Hausa-speaking peoples aims to reflect this complexity rather than deny the rich and diverse history of the Hausa and other ethnic groups in the region.
The terminology used in historical texts and discussions is a product of its time, and I appreciate your point regarding the term "Negro." It's crucial to approach historical narratives with a nuanced understanding, acknowledging both the historical context and the sensitivities of modern discourse. I value diverse perspectives and constructive dialogue, as they contribute to a more enriched understanding of history.
If you have additional resources or references that could further illuminate this topic, I would be interested to learn and possibly incorporate that in future content to provide a more nuanced narrative.

    The term "Maguzawa"
Maguzawa derived initially from the name " Maguz" a kind of priesthood in Mazdeanism religion.
The true Maguz, Majush (Arabic) or Maguzawa (in hausa) were persians , today Iran...
They were followers of Zoroastre/Zaratustra..and they worshipped FIRE - Ahura Mazda.
The word "Magic/Magician" were derived from Magus/Maguz plural - Magi..
In conclusion, Hausa people are not ancient persians to be called Maguz..
But it was a term used by only Hausa people to describe people with practices like these ancient Iranians fire worshippers...

Again, try to put actual data about hausa population in 2022.
30 millions was the population of hausa in the 19th century as has estimated the author of the book: " Hausaland: 1500 miles in Central Sudan".
Today, Nigeria with 216 millions in 2022 and with at least 30% of hausa population, this makes about 65 millions.
In Niger Republic with 26 millions and 54% of hausa, this makes 14, 5 millions.
In Sudan, 6 to 10 millions.
In Cote d'ivoire 2 millions etc...
As per the year 2022, Hausa native population is about 100 millions.
If we add those using hausa as a second language, we can get more than 140 millions speakers...
