It used to be the worlds greatest and toughest steeplechase but now, courtesy of the animal rights campaigners, it is just a longer version of any other steeplechase on the circuit. People are saying Tiger Roll maybe up there with Red Rum as the greatest Grand National horse of all time, they forget that Red Rum did it back in the day when the National was not just a test of stamina, but also of jumping ability. No contest between the two horses for me, Rummy wins it hands down.
Horses still die... in fact mor then before the adjustments. The fake birch core is good idea. Leveling the drops from uneven to even is good. But lowering fences mean they will jump faster and fall more often especially because they are gallopping fast. 🙄
Red rums record can never be bettered, the course doesn't resemble the course rummy ran on. Also Mr frisks time cannot, the race is now 4 1/4 miles not 4 1/2.

Felt bad for Rust Never Sleeps watching on. About to be put down. I’m no animal welfare person and I love the Grand National, just felt bad for him watching on with literally only minutes to live 😢
@@Formula1Madx I remember that the original weights had Rough Quest on 9-13 until horses like Dublin Flyer and Master Oats were removed at an earlier declaration stage. Rough Quest about a week earlier wasn't going to run as there was only 16 days between the Gold Cup and this race.
I loved Young Hustler. The old boy lived to 32 years of age, passed away 3 years ago. RIP

Rough Quest had finished 2nd in the Cheltenham Gold Cup just 3 weeks earlier so it can't have been that bad 👍
