  • Head Coach of the Dallas Mavericks, former Boston Celtic, and former Head Coach of both the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons, Rick Carlisle knows a thing or two about the game of basketball. Here he goes over ways to improve shooting. From one-handed shots to improve form, positioning of body angle, to shot power- Carlisle goes over ways to improve shooting and use the floor to create high-percentage efficient shooters. How will you use his teachings to improve your shot?

Just because Larry bird steps forward that mean that was comfortable for him ... as far as dipping the ball it's good to catch high and not dip the ball but ray Allen made a living being a great shooter dipping the ball. I could give you a lot more examples. Shooting is fundamental first but afterwards it's more hand and Eye coordination also touch and feel.

I agree with a lot of what he says but when he says you don't need a high arc it completely lost me.

I agree with what Alejandro said, it's important but not the be all and end all. Kwahi has turned into a very good shooter and he doesn't shoot with much arc at all. Same with spin, Middleton is one of the best shooters in the game but he barely gets any spin on his shot either. But if your starting out learning to shoot i would definitely recommend both.

the further away you go the less arc you want. because arc makes it a longer distance traveled

I wonder for left handed shooters do they go left right instead of right left. I feel like that might be awkward for a left handed shooter.

But most of the great shooters start the ball from somewhere around the hip if they have enough space and if they don't they move or dribble to create space for a better shot!

shooting is subjective you could have the worse form yet still shoot a high percentage and good form and still have low results.
People just need to have high self-awareness, individual shoot arounds and smarts to be a good shooter.

19:00 lower your trajectory. Dont shoot with so much arc. Kid shoots it short on every one of his next shots

There is a conspiracy theorist named ed chiarini who claims rick Carlisle and jim Carrey are the same man. although rick is 6'5" and jim is 6'2" so I don't know how they fake the height difference. Voice is eerily similar thou..

Rick lacks a basic understanding of shooting fundamentals therefore is completely misguided in his demonstration along with his shooting philosophy. This is more of an example on drills and techniques to avoid.

@@aesir1ases64 being a good shooter and teaching shooting are different skills. Most of what he is saying was the common belief in the 1980’s but it’s 2022 and there is a lot more information available. Most of which contradicts what he is saying.
