    Hi Loic, Harley here! Thank you so much for sharing your opinion on our Sibelius loudspeakers - I am just so happy you engaged with them in the way I do too. I have been living with them for so long now, that it just seems normal. So, it's super exciting to hear other people's first reactions, especially when they are as funny and honest as yours!
    I hope we can meet up one day (I am a guitarist too) - very amateur, for my ears only, or very small crowds with videos off :-)

    I worked for Harley in the UK. These are quite special. 1st pair I installed replaced magnepan 3.7. Unlike the vast majority of speaker's available these have sounded fantastic in every room and show i did with them.. The cabinets are incredibly inert, one of the best at "disappearing" at any price. Bass extension in room will surprise you. What these do is allow you enjoy ALL of your music.
    So glad to see Harley getting recognition, for these special speakers.

    Some time ago I had the chance to listen to Sibelius installed in a small untreated room connected to a modest NAD amp and turntable.
    Well it sounded more natural than my main Quad system.
    This is truly an hidden gem in hifi.
    My 2 cents

    "Seeing" music is called "Synesthesia" and is an ability I've had all of my life (I'm sixty-two). Synesthesia is a rare phenomenon wherein two of a person's senses are combined such as hearing and seeing sound, vocals, and music. You're one rare dude. It greatly aids one in evaluating music and gear. One can see sounds as abstract shapes and colors in space and time in the mind's eye. Enjoy your gift! John C Carroll, Peace!

    Thanks very much for the follow-up to Thomas’s review. Highly enjoyable. The humour’s great! I ordered the Sibelius in December based on the demo video posted in Thomas’s Patreon site and received the speakers a week ago. You guys are spot on! Great follow-up to Thomas' review. I am saving my pennies for something special in a few years, but I haven't decided what it will be and the decision will be scary as it's way more expensive than any audio equipment I've ever purchased in my life. The more I hear about the Sibelius speakers the more interested I am. What stands out to me is how it appears that, in general, people who listen seem to just enjoy the music, forgetting about the gear, and to me that is my ultimate goal. On top of that they are stunningly beautiful, and it seems a real bonus that they sound so good in a variety of rooms, but still vastly reward room treatments and proper placement. A very interesting product indeed.

      Not with rels, but tried with low cost subs using high level taps directly to the spkr terminals (like a rel does) and kept the xover on the subs at 50hz with low level. So the subs stayed very shy in terms of instruments and more for room effect, increasing depth and airiness. Was really nice! But the Sibelius are already amazing on their own.

    • @thebostonaudiophile
      @thebostonaudiophile 2 года назад

      @@hificave Thanks. I would think that's a good way to do it to keep the sub from being conspicuous or messing with the Sib's virtues. I'm tempted to try the Sib but I hate to buy a major audio component that I haven't at least heard briefly with my own ears. That's especially true of speakers, which have so many aspects to their sound.

    So the intention of your system is that the subs throw the pressure from behind on your open baffle membranes? I think that is not a great placement. But open baffle is not great for me anyway. Physics can be heard 😊
    I bet the Sibelius is a great and hard to beat speaker for listening to natural music with lots of instruments and voices. I have to check them but the physics should make them very dynamic and loud. Bass is well designed and the housing works. So she should stil go deep. But what I like to hear is the doppler-effect of full range drivers that again is physically given and how it affects the sound.

    Question:
    In a couple of MrT videos I noticed that you have the MUSICAL PARADISE MP 701mk2....
    I'm considering it as a preamp for my Bryston 3b sst and LRS/REL system.

    • @hificave
      @hificave  Год назад +1

      I used the pre-amp for maybe 2 weeks. I cant say too much at this point in time, but I enjoyed it for those two weeks. I mean, value is very high as you can roll tubes, caps, fuses in the pre-amp to take it another level and several gain level adjustments to fine tune the matching with different amps. The only issue I had, was the volume motor I could hear through the speakers but my speakers are 98db of sensitivity at the time so any noise they picked up.

    • @carlitomelon4610
      @carlitomelon4610 Год назад

      @@hificave Thanks for sharing your limited experience.
      I know that you appreciate the Musical Paradise approach to component rolling, since you did a lot of it with their DAC.
      I've had this preamp for nearly six months now.
      For now I have settled on the V-Caps for transparency and occasionally swap to Mundorfs SGO supreme for a little more romance.
      I did experience noise issues at first, but discovered that I needed to use a shielded signal cable to the amplifier, as recommended by the designer. I also quickly removed the stock tubes in favor of some NOS 12au7, a 12sn7 & 5u4g rectifier. The lower gain tubes eliminate noise . My system noise is now insignificant.
      However the tonally saturated 3D sound is just beautiful....
      I love the sound now!

    Funny video. 👍
    That was a new thing.
    When we record a instrument with a microphone. Then we get the sound of the instrument AND the reverberation of the room/church or whatever also if it were recorded outside then we get NO room.
    So it is great to be able to hear the location were the recording were done and the decision of the recording engineer on how far or near he place the microphone (closer less room and more instrument and vice versa)
    So now we take and use Sibelius to reproduce those events in the bass.
    There is where all fall apart (for the bass reproduction when it ADD its own sounds on top of what were recorded is what you guys saying.)
    If we call it musical or whatever and that reviewers like that "colouration" is a different story.
    Strange it is hard to understand how a speaker that add (it is in practice what it does) it own sound on top of what has been recorded.
    How that mush of sounds can sound like the real instrument (in the bass region) when it doesn't sounded like that when captured.
    But it is me overanalyzing and that is probably NOT a speaker for me then.. 🤣🎶🥰🎵🎼

      Perhaps by adding colouration, it makes everything sound like a certain instrument.
      For example, if you put the Mark Audio driver in a guitar, then the music would sound very much like guitars are in your room when played back with similar instruments.
      It won't be accurate to the source but it may sound "like real music".
      People who like this tend to want to "bring the musicians into the room" rather than turn their room into the venue the music was actually played at

  • @garth56
    @garth56 2 года назад

    So sorry Loic I never replied to your reply on my comments re speakers. If you remember I have a pair of Westminster Royals, with the 4 Rel's, I'm pretty sure they're up there with the best horns on the planet not because of their cabinet construction which is superb but because of the drivers. I remember another speaker around the 80's-90's that had single driver no crossover array, for the life of me I cannot remember it's name, which heralded a single point source driver that sounded fantastic. But like anything there is a trade of having one speaker to do it all. I'm not sure but it looks like the Sibelius is a TL which produces lots of bass, I did have TDL's years ago, but a the cost of speed and timing ie the wave front is slightly behind the mid and treble . Secondly there's the treble which rolls off quite significantly on the top because of speed which also was the criticism of that other manufacturer. I'm not a fan of one driver speakers because one driver can't do it all. You asked me about my other bits so the turntable is Dohmann Helix 1 V2 the amps I've changed as I've got a little fed up with the SET sound. So I have a pair of GM70's push pull, think 845's on steroids, amps. And the gorgeous Nagra transport and Dac. One of my pet peeve's is cable that looks like is should run under roads to carry massive amounts of current. So I have a mixture of Audionote silver and Audience cables. I'm sure somebody will jump in a disagree with everything I've said which is fine. We all have are own opinions which is what it is. but to add fuel to the fire one more thing triodes do a better job in a pp amp than a pentode or tetrode.. So a 845,211,6b4g,300b and the GM70/90 or whatever sound way better than their counterparts compared to the el34 and so on in pp mode 🙂. I'm ducking because of incoming lol

    Single driver in a box, no crossovers, perhaps the route to the purest sound, and I appreciate the time and effort to bring them to fruition, but its hard to justify the price for the cost to manufactire, IMO.

    Sweet you say? Then try the old yellow Vifa 10BGS, it's the most sweet sounding wide range unit, you can feel that female singers saliva is actually honey lol
    I have Mark Audio drivers, Sibelius uses them, so they are no match for those Vifas in sweetness, but Vifa needs a tweeter from 6000Hz or a up or rear firing supertweeter
    A great site about full range units and tube amps is "Glow in the dark audio"

    10 Grand a pair? Some of those type drivers can be that much. Like the Feastrex 5" drivers that cost that and their field core variants can cost 70 grand a pair for the 8" field core drivers. This builder doesn't make his own drivers, he buys them.

    Buy Markaudio-chn-110, put them in a 25 liter cabinet and you will be satisfied for 1/10 of the price of the Sibelius. If someone needs details let me know.

    Snake oil smells fishy
    There is a magic to full range single drivers and class A amplifiers
    Especially if you’re older and you’re hearing range is nonexistent above 15,000 kHz.
    I’m in that majority approaching 60 my hearing rolls off at 12,000 kHz and 100% stone deaf after 15,000 kHz.
    Single full range speakers are now Manna sent from heaven Life is so simple now
