I know this is a super old video. But I was wondering why some idle kits have switches and this one does not? I want to install it like this video but want to make sure it works.
+nick stuart This is because when the truck is in park the high idle is turned on, its a setting from having the high idle installed, watch my video on how i installed my high idle switch, which allows you to turn it on and off with a switch. With the switch off in park the rev limiter will be like normal with the switch turned on, it will be limited at 2200rpm.
I've watched a few videos on installing these and a few of them really recommend using a toggle switch to completely kill the power to the high idle. what is your opinion ?
The high idle switch worked for about 3 months and now it is touchy and only wants to work when it feels like it it'll go up to 1200 rpms and then kick off on its own. Also can't rev the truck past 1800 rpms in park/neutral.. Sometimes it will stay on and work great but for the most part it'll just shut off, checked connections they are tight.
At this point in time we do not have an LBZ version of the High Idle Kit. I have pushed this through to our RND team to see what it would take to offer it in the future. Thank you for reaching out though and sorry we couldn’t be of assistance!
Yes, if this is something you don't want, you can install an inline switch in the wire and simply open the switch to prevent the limited RPM, just remember to close the switch for the operation of the high idle.
I have an 03 gmc sierra 6.6l lb7. I got this kit did everything as follows pin 71 and brake switch pin F. Connections are good. Switch has power at pin f and no power when switch is engaged. Still doesn't work
Did not work I went to the 71 pin then to the f pin no luck I even tried to go directly to the pin itself with bare wire no luck anything I could’ve done wrong
@@kendalneal90 have to put a switch in. Go to 71 pin then give it power somewhere I went off the fuse, panel, cruise control. That’s what everyone went off.
I like this trick thanks. But I like to sit in my truck and idle often while my dog runs at the beach so what did you mean a higher idle is better for long periods of time? Maybe when resting and trying to keep warm letting the heat run?
It's better to idle the truck higher to keep higher oil pressure to keep everything properly lubricated, especially the turbo. Being at the top of the engine it is the last thing to get oil. The higher the oil pressure, the better the lubrication, circulation, and cooling. Insight from a 10 year truck driver
Just did the install. You have to remove the drivers side battery to get to the ecu cover. Video is only slightly helpful. Recommend you watch multiple vids.
Sorry you had trouble with the install. There certainly is more then one way to gain access and some may certainly find it easier to get the battery out of the way. Another option is to remove the wheel liner and go in that way.
Question: Should you disconnect both batteries before starting this procedure?
I would
Just a tip when installing, there is a second wire clipped on to the ecm cover that you will need to take off to expose the ecm
Would there be a way that I could connect this to a remote start module, so when I remote start my truck it will automatically kick it into high idle?
Figure it out?
great vid wish new this 16 yrs ago mine has fact cruise but no high idle always wonder why any answers to why not
Some medium duty platforms had a factory high idle switch. Most of the pickups did not.
would this be the same procedure for a manual trans.?
Yes, the manual transmission trucks would work the same. Just be sure to set the parking brake!
Shouldn't you disconnect the batteries first?
My truck already has a factory wire on pin 71. What does that mean?
You probably have high idle then
Does the parking break have to be set for it to work
I know this is a super old video. But I was wondering why some idle kits have switches and this one does not? I want to install it like this video but want to make sure it works.
This operates the same way as an 18 wheelers high idle i rather have this than the swich kit's.
More than one way to accomplish this, for this kit, we have left out the need for any external switches to keep it simple
Will your cruise control still work after install
Good question. Yes after installing the kit your cruise will still work.
After connecting to the brake switch do you just leave the leftover wire there?
You can trim the excess wire to length
I installed this in my 02, works great! Only thing I noticed was is lowered my rev limiter to 2200 from 3200 in park?

Extremely helpful and good quality video! Thumbs up
I added this to my 02’ couple of years ago and worked but now it seems like it stopped working. Any suggestions?
check your splice on the break wire

I have the same problem. Worked good for a year and half. Now barely works. Any ideas how to fix?
@@brookbell More than likely a broken wire, faulty brake switch, or faulty turn signal switch.
Fantastic. Thanks. I just used your kit and directions.
Thank You!
Will this mess up my cruise control when I’m hauling ass Down the highway?
No, will not effect normal cruise operation at all.
Will this work on an 07 classic lbz?
No, it’s designed for the LB7 2001 to early 2004 models.
@@merchantautomotive do you have a kit for the lbz.
Let me double check with our tech team in the morning and I’ll get back to you.

it should have factory high idle.

Mine doesn't. How do you get it to idle high?
+MudRFunR my dad's 04 lly will kick on automatically if it's cold. but it really has to be cold outside

I have an 04 LLY. I've started it in -40 weather many times. No high idle ever.

will this effect crews control?
No, it does not effect it at all. Works perfectly as it did before

You got a double click 3 times cruise control set button to get it to turn on when you press to increase button once it goes up to 2100 RPMs
