I agree with this absolutely. The installation instructions on the Snipe-IT website are woeful, for Linux as well as Windows (but especially for Windows). I've tried to install this on a Linux box and a Server 2016 box; in both cases I had to rely on guides I found on other sites. The Linux one didn't work, but thanks to your video I now have Snipe-IT up and running on Server 2016 yaaaay! THANK YOU!
Video saved me. My setup was MySQL 8.0.17, phpMyAdmin 4.9.0.1, PHP 7.3.7, and SnipeIT 4.7.6. With my install I hit a snag when installing Composer. You need php_mysql.dll disabled (not enabled). And be sure to make the folder security changes with IUSR. Thanks for the video!!!

Excellent video for a fairly complicated setup! I was able to install everything with current versions of the downloads OK with one exception, the version of HeidiSQL installed with the MariaDB required an update to get past an error (column "users" not available) on DB user creation. After patching HeidiSQL to the current version it resolved the problem.

For composer, if you get a funky error during install saying "your requirements could not be resolved" just run "composer install --ignore-platform-reqs" instead.
Please help, all the steps work, but I have a question about the last step, which is creating the user. In the domain email option, what should I put? Also, what should I put in the email option? Should I put my personal email, for example, gmail or hotmail? I am sorry, but I am just a graduate student who has never been employed and I want to download the SnipeIT program on VMware inside Windows server in order to train and gain experience. I may have made a simple mistake. So when I put in the IP to access the site it goes to the IIS page. put if i do the IP/admin it goes to the admin page just fine. (it only does this on a remote PC it is fine on the actual server. How does one fix?

I am not sure why the path shows /.env in the error. In Windows you wouldn’t be able to browse to that path as the path seems invalid. However, could you go through the permissions part one more time? Just double check all the permissions are correct.

I came across a problem while trying to upgrade using the "PHP upgrade.php" method. Is there a different process for upgrading in Windows? Which version is faster in terms of performance the Linux or Windows?
Hi Aman, You’re welcome. In terms of upgrading, yes it is different in Windows. This involves not a lot but manually backing up, moving files ans re-assigning permissions to folders. Performance is a debatable topic and there are a lot variables. However, I haven’t noticed any difference between Ubuntu and Windows. As you may have noticed Snipe is built on Laravel and uses Composer for its dependencies. There is better support and more automation available for Linux based systems. Jay

I do have a problem though and I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this problem, but when I click on any of the reports (e.g. Reports/Activity Report), I get a logon prompt. When I enter the server admin credentials, I get an HTTP 404 error for Requested URL: /reports/activity. Although it does look like a permission issue, I did set all the permissions on the folders as instructed in your video (i.e. IUSR permissions on uploads, cache, storage, and Windows/Temp folders). Everything else seems to work fine, just not the reports. Any ideas?

@@TekNexSolutions Thank you for your quick reply. The culprit was actually SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). I have SQL Server (along with SSRS) installed on the same server. The default virtual directory for SSRS reports is ServerName:80/Reports (same as SnipeIT reports path). One solution would be to simply uninstall SSRS, another to use a different port for SnipeIT (e.g. 8080), I just changed the virtual directory for the SSRS reports in Reporting Services Configuration Manager->Report Manager URL to "SSRSReports" and that fixed the problem :-)
Bryan Tangonan It would be ICMPv4 issue. To prove that try turning off firewall on VM and your host OS. Then try pinging. If that’s the case, you need to add firewall rule to allow ICMPv4 in the firewall.

Hi. Thank you for this. I have a question. Maybe you seen this. I can upload files (sample file from snipeit website) but I cannot import it. Looking at the logs (Chrome) I keep getting Server Error: 500 (Internal Server Error). Just says "Processing..." it does not actually do anything. Thanks in advanced!
You are welcome. Internal Server error is a very generic error. I would recommend you to turn on the debug mode from the .env file (APP_DEBUG=true) and then it might show the problem. Also, go through the video again if possible just in case you missed something.

parasmichael1 Hi , you would be able to do that. As long as your user account has admin rights, you would be able to make changes. You may know that IUSR is a locat account to a server where IIS is installed.
It is the IIS server local account and gets generated when we install IIS. Check more info here about this account docs.microsoft.com/en-us/iis/get-started/planning-for-security/understanding-built-in-user-and-group-accounts-in-iis.

Mine is working using Server 2016, mariadb 10.0.36, PHP 7.3.9 and Snipe-IT 4.7.7 and your installation instructions were all I needed. I will check the Composer error. PHP extension error is related to the LDAP extension. You did not enable the extension as demonstrated in the video and also mentioned in the blog. Could you confirm the path from where you are running the composer installation command?

Databasemanager.php is a Laravel Framework's file. In the demonstrated lab environment in this video, this file resides in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\snipe-it\vendor\laravel\framework\src\Illuminate\Database. It is indicating connection failure to the database. May be double check the REQUIRED: DATABASE SETTINGS in the .env file?

Hi i noticed my error after installation.... like i deployed it n take backup. its working fine. but as i installed it to other system then how i migrate all my asset info to new other system?? i use import option for this but it either gave error or it import CSV file in wrong manner.. That's not fair.
Hi Malik, make sure you match the csv column names to the snipe-it asset required names. It should work fine. I have not made any video on that though. May be in future, at some point I will make this video.
Great video. I followed every instruction on a fresh install of Windows 2016 however when I try and load up the pre-flight page I'm getting "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" in IE. I've tried using 127.0.0.1, ip address, host name all the same result. netstat -a shows it is listening on port 80.
I should note that the PHP version I'm using is 7.3.6 and Maria DB is 10.0.38 Not sure if that would cause this issue. Just seems like IIS is not working correctly.

Hi there, I would recommend to do the following: 1. Double check all the folder permissions for IIS are right 41:33 and .env file has up-to-date content. 1. Try browsing to yourIPAdress/setup/migrate. 2. You can try browsing to yourIPAddress/setup/user. 3. Login to HS and connect to the Snipe-IT database with the user (database user) you created earlier. You will see many different tables created when you clicked on Next Create Database Tables during Pre-Flight setup. Hopefully above steps will be enough to resolve the issue in question.

It is the domain name linked with your email account. You can update that later if you like. It is basically programmed to link with the snipe usernames if needed.

1. IUSR is inbuilt user for IIS Server. We have to give proper permissions to this user so that it can run SNIPE-IT website properly. Check permissions part in this link snipe-it.readme.io/docs/windowsiis 2. session_entropy_length value helps generating random session ids to secure the PHP sessions. 3. PHP extensions provide different functionality to SNIPE-IT. For example, LDAP extension helps SNIPE-IT connect to LDAP server. If LDAP extension is not enable and SNIPE-IT would not be able to connect to LDAP server. Check requirements section in this link snipe-it.readme.io/docs/requirements

It is creating the user cause when i refresh to try again, it says this email and username have already been taken. I try going to the site but it goes back to the start of preflight. I guess i am just not getting that preflight finished flag.

Excellent video for a fairly complicated setup! I was able to install everything with current versions of the downloads OK with one exception, the version of HeidiSQL installed with the MariaDB required an update to get past an error (column "users" not available) on DB user creation. After patching HeidiSQL to the current version it resolved the problem.

For composer, if you get a funky error during install saying "your requirements could not be resolved" just run "composer install --ignore-platform-reqs" instead.

Page not found means IIS did not even detect the website. May be go over "create new website" part again.

I may have made a simple mistake. So when I put in the IP to access the site it goes to the IIS page. put if i do the IP/admin it goes to the admin page just fine. (it only does this on a remote PC it is fine on the actual server. How does one fix?
Disable the default website. IIS page is the default website.

I am not sure why the path shows /.env in the error. In Windows you wouldn’t be able to browse to that path as the path seems invalid.
However, could you go through the permissions part one more time? Just double check all the permissions are correct.

I came across a problem while trying to upgrade using the "PHP upgrade.php" method. Is there a different process for upgrading in Windows? You’re welcome.
In terms of upgrading, yes it is different in Windows. This involves not a lot but manually backing up, moving files ans re-assigning permissions to folders.
Performance is a debatable topic and there are a lot variables. However, I haven’t noticed any difference between Ubuntu and Windows.
As you may have noticed Snipe is built on Laravel and uses Composer for its dependencies. There is better support and more automation available for Linux based systems.

I do have a problem though and I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this problem, but when I click on any of the reports (e.g. Reports/Activity Report), I get a logon prompt. When I enter the server admin credentials, I get an HTTP 404 error for Requested URL: /reports/activity. Although it does look like a permission issue, I did set all the permissions on the folders as instructed in your video (i.e. IUSR permissions on uploads, cache, storage, and Windows/Temp folders). Everything else seems to work fine, just not the reports. Any ideas?

@@TekNexSolutions Thank you for your quick reply. The culprit was actually SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). I have SQL Server (along with SSRS) installed on the same server. The default virtual directory for SSRS reports is ServerName:80/Reports (same as SnipeIT reports path). One solution would be to simply uninstall SSRS, another to use a different port for SnipeIT (e.g. 8080), I just changed the virtual directory for the SSRS reports in Reporting Services Configuration Manager->Report Manager URL to "SSRSReports" and that fixed the problem :-)

Bryan Tangonan It would be ICMPv4 issue. To prove that try turning off firewall on VM and your host OS. Then try pinging.
If that’s the case, you need to add firewall rule to allow ICMPv4 in the firewall.

Looking at the logs (Chrome) I keep getting Server Error: 500 (Internal Server Error). Just says "Processing..." it does not actually do anything. Thanks in advanced!
You are welcome.
Internal Server error is a very generic error. I would recommend you to turn on the debug mode from the .env file (APP_DEBUG=true) and then it might show the problem. Also, go through the video again if possible just in case you missed something.

parasmichael1 Hi , you would be able to do that. As long as your user account has admin rights, you would be able to make changes. You may know that IUSR is a locat account to a server where IIS is installed.

It is the IIS server local account and gets generated when we install IIS. Check more info here about this account docs.microsoft.com/en-us/iis/get-started/planning-for-security/understanding-built-in-user-and-group-accounts-in-iis.

I will check the Composer error.
PHP extension error is related to the LDAP extension. You did not enable the extension as demonstrated in the video and also mentioned in the blog.

Databasemanager.php is a Laravel Framework's file. In the demonstrated lab environment in this video, this file resides in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\snipe-it\vendor\laravel\framework\src\Illuminate\Database.
It is indicating connection failure to the database. May be double check the REQUIRED: DATABASE SETTINGS in the .env file?

Hi i noticed my error after installation.... like i deployed it n take backup. its working fine. but as i installed it to other system then how i migrate all my asset info to new other system?? i use import option for this but it either gave error or it import CSV file in wrong manner.. Hi Malik, make sure you match the csv column names to the snipe-it asset required names. It should work fine. I have not made any video on that though. May be in future, at some point I will make this video.

Great video. I followed every instruction on a fresh install of Windows 2016 however when I try and load up the pre-flight page I'm getting "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" in IE. I've tried using 127.0.0.1, ip address, host name all the same result. netstat -a shows it is listening on port 80.
I should note that the PHP version I'm using is 7.3.6 and Maria DB is 10.0.38 Not sure if that would cause this issue. Just seems like IIS is not working correctly.
Fixed it. Had wrong user name in the .env file.

I would recommend to do the following:
1. Double check all the folder permissions for IIS are right 41:33 and .env file has up-to-date content.
1. Try browsing to yourIPAdress/setup/migrate.
2. You can try browsing to yourIPAddress/setup/user.
3. Login to HS and connect to the Snipe-IT database with the user (database user) you created earlier. You will see many different tables created when you clicked on Next Create Database Tables during Pre-Flight setup.
Hopefully above steps will be enough to resolve the issue in question.

It is the domain name linked with your email account. You can update that later if you like. It is basically programmed to link with the snipe usernames if needed.

1. IUSR is inbuilt user for IIS Server. We have to give proper permissions to this user so that it can run SNIPE-IT website properly. Check permissions part in this link snipe-it.readme.io/docs/windowsiis
2. session_entropy_length value helps generating random session ids to secure the PHP sessions.
3. PHP extensions provide different functionality to SNIPE-IT. For example, LDAP extension helps SNIPE-IT connect to LDAP server. If LDAP extension is not enable and SNIPE-IT would not be able to connect to LDAP server. Check requirements section in this link snipe-it.readme.io/docs/requirements

Microsoft SQL Server is not officially supported by SNIPE-IT. Check out their documentation.

I have a problem with modify Language to Spanish-MX at global level, it doesn't work.
If I modify the language of each user manually it works.

I have not tried changing the language at all. I might try sometime changing the language and let you know if there is a fix for it.

I am stuck on the Whoops. looks like something went wrong. Refreshing does not get me back to the preflight where you are creating a user.
Hi Tom, try browsing to yourIPAdress/setup/migrate.
Assuming you have all the permissions right and .env file has up-to-date content.
Also, you can try browsing to yourIPAddress/setup/user. I would recommend you to login to HS and connect to the Snipe-IT database with the user (database user) you created earlier. You will see many different tables created when you clicked on Next Create Database Tables during Pre-Flight setup.
So going to /user gets me to the next screen. but after hitting next: save user i am back to whoops screen
What about the database tables? Did you have a look at them?
BTW, thanks for the video. I was totally dead in the water. I am so close to finishing this setup.
It is creating the user cause when i refresh to try again, it says this email and username have already been taken. I try going to the site but it goes back to the start of preflight. I guess i am just not getting that preflight finished flag.
