I love this list of top 10 games😎 Well I may not play all these games everyday now, These games definitely define my childhood introduction to videogames from ages like 6-12 perfectly 👌
In my personal opinion, the best and most influential Final Fantasy game ever was Final Fantasy 6. It was originally called Final Fantasy 3 on the SNES. This was my first ever JRPG when I was a kid, and so it is my favorite JRPG ever today as an adult. Every year, I make at least 1 full playthrough of Final Fantasy 6. It is that good.
Unpopular opinion: I never liked Zelda. I tried. I never understood the hype behind this game. Unpopular opinion 2: Super Mario 64 is so frustrating to play.
@BlueCollaredGrit No, I'm 16, and I love retro games! I've played MGS, OOT, MM, FF7, Chrono Trigger, and more! and guess what? I enjoyed playing those games. It's not the fact that people had to grow up in an era to enjoy it it's the fact that people have something called -PERSONAL PREFERENCE- No offence I'm just saying that you are 100 percent wrong.
@BlueCollaredGrit It does it's called -PERSONAL PREFERENCE - maybe he likes different categories. Maybe he prefers Tetris, Terraria, etc. Maybe he likes games that are short because he is busy. It's literally called PERSONAL PREFERENCE. And yes, I knew you were referring to the original comment. Making my point quite relevant.
Your argument about FF 7 is very good, even though i dont think is the best of the Series or Jrpg at all, is a point that i can't argue about, the impact of the game is timeless.

I would’ve changed Goldeneye with Doom, changed Mario 64 with Mario 3, replaced Sonic 2 with 3 & Knuckles, Zelda with the original, and FF7 with Streets of Rage 2
Oh! And I forgot. Switch out Pokémon withStreet Fighter 2, and if I really need to pin one down, it’ll have to be either Super Turbo or SF2 hyper fighting. I have my preferences and biases, but i think Doom is criminally omitted
I play Tetris regularly, but I prefer Wario's Woods on the NES. MGS is really impressive but the universe didn't transcend me. I prefer Echo Night, made by FromSoftWare. I'm not a big RPG fan, but Majora's Mask really hooked me, with its clockwork gameplay that makes time management more digestible. Mario 64 and Super Mario Wolrd are great games, but I prefer Donkey Kong GB, which transposes Mario 64 into 2D, introducing and sublimating acrobatics and puzzles, and adding the original arcade timer to add depth to the gameplay.
My top 10 N64 games would be: Mario Kart WWF No Mercy Zelda Ocarina of Time Goldeneye Mario 64 Diddy Kong racing Super smash bros Body Harvest Resident Evil 2 Tony Hawks pro skater (I didn’t have a PS)
I really feel like GoldenEye is voted because of nostalgia. I find it very hard to beleive that people wanting to play retrogames today put in in their top 10 of games they want to play to this day. The multiplayer was the main attraction which tbh you dont play anymore today on a retro device.
This is definitely a pre 2000s retro list. Idk who voted for this list but it feels more like popular instead of "best". Should be Sonic 3 & Knucles (or one of them if you don't want to count the pack) instead of 2 and Pokemon Gold/Silver instead of Red/Blue. Also to have Packman, Tetris and GoldenEye Instead of Super Metroid, Castlevania: SotN or Chrono Trigger feels like a crime. All still great games, just feels wrong to have a best list with no Castlevania or Metroid.
Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 Street Fighter 2 Wonderboy III The Dragons Trap Gran Turismo Phantasy Star Sim City Castlevania Symphony of the Night Doom Monkey Island
This really misses out on some critical games. No Resident Evil? It spawned an entire genre. Sonic Adventure, Master Blaster...you can tell the age of the participants based on the choices.
There is already a token sonic game on the list. The oldest game on this list is from 1980 and the second oldest is from 1989. Those are some fairly old games.
Resident Evil 2 is always on my mind when I think of best classic retro games. That having said, I appreciate different opinions. Not all lists have to be the same.
I need to remind you that Ocarina of Time was released in 1998 and Daggerfall in 1996. nothing like that you say? Ultima had open world and stuff in 1981
Super Mario world should be number 1, goldeneye should not be on the list, Tetris should be higher and Pokémon gold/silver should be there instead of red/blue
Bingo, cheers to that! Before all fps games played the same, we ol timers were olympic figure skaters on golden eye controls. It's hard to go back to without remapping controls because of modern conditioning but that takes nothing away from that ancient concept called "fun"!
No computer games, of course. That means no "Lemmings", "Civilization", "Syndicate", "Sim City" or "Turrican" and so on. Without the computer segment the list is incomplete., sorry!
The lack of DKC2 on the polls is outrageous. Better than DKC1 in every way, and yet you don’t include it? I also noticed a surprising lack of 2D platformers. I think your biases played a heavy roll in this ranking.
Gran Turismo 1 at spot 21 in the article was a mistake. It’s the sole representative of the franchise in the list, and inferior to all its subsequent titles in every way. Gran Turismo 2 was an objective upgrade of the first game, and the pinnacle of racing games in that generation; pushing the PS1 to its hardware limit. Gran Turismo 4 later did the same on PS2. Either title deserved the spot over the first IMO.
