Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. One, I CANT believe someone would wear PJs out of their room, especially to the dining room. Its not Walmart :). I totally agree with women bringing coverups or shawls for the pool or dining. My GF definitely uses hers. Secondly, in the future, please advise more information on men's attire for cruising. You briefly go over it, but not too may vloggers do. Thanks and keep up the good videos
It's a new fad. It's for like theme nights or something like that. People all buy onesies. Yes, adult size onesies and they all go and party in their onesies. But it's something they do as a group. I have never seen anyone wear their actual pajamas out of their room. I would never do that because I don't wear gorgeous designer pajamas. It seems like people are spending a lot of time on worry and what other people are wearing. It would be nice if people spent more time concerning themselves with how they are treating other people.
Totally agree on the lounge wear instead of the pajamas. I feel like getting into your pajamas is for part of your night time routine and if you’re a bad sleeper, wearing your pajamas anytime other than when you’re sleeping, it can upset that process. Plus, there are some really cute, comfortable lounge sets that are great for cruise life.
I was wondering about this because I have a nice lounge set in grey that's flowing pants, and a cardigan over a tank, and the trip I'm taking is a west coast cruise to Catalina and Ensenada that gets cool in the evening. I wasn't planning on hitting the main dining room, but wondered if it would be okay for the buffet and I'm thinking yes.
If you are going to the MDR or specialty restaurant you will obviously notice that all the staff are wearing smart, clean uniforms. You should reciprocate by wearing smart, clean clothes while at these venues. As a retired Merchant Marine Officer of 49 years service (although I never worked on passenger/cruise ships), in the officer's dining room uniformed waiters used silver service. All officers reciprocated by wearing full uniform.
My wife and I have cruised for years and when we first started you definitely had actual formal night which we love to dress up. Now that we are retired, we rarely get that opportunity so we still dress up but my wife just wears a very nice dress and I wear a light suit with a tie. That way we get our “fancy night” and all is well!
I totally agree about the swimsuit coverups. On our last cruise, I was totally amazed by how many young ladies as well as older ladies didn’t wear a coverup in the Buffett area.
Just got back from a cruise, and even though I had experienced a few slips before, it, for some reason, never occurred to me to not wear flip flops on deck. I didn’t noticed some water in the lido deck, and my flip flops went right out from under me and I face planted with all fours splayed! I will be bringing something with more grip in the future.
All your suggestions are spot on. Those who argue for wearing pajamas just don’t seem to get that it’s not all about them. Some people are truly offended and being mindful of others is always good. Shawls are great. I wear them so often on a cruise or not. Air conditioning is often too cool and a shawl can be a fun saver in any venue. Take a couple of different colors for variety with your outfits. You’ll be warm and stylish.
YES....I'm not a prude by any means but I would think someone would look like an idiot wearing ACTUAL pajamas to breakfast lol. I wear tees and leggings to bed. There is SOOO many nicer outfits one could wear. Most people have paid a lot for their cruises and I, for one, want to be comfy but also look chic and smart.
@@stacythomas1587 I agree that pajamas are not good to wear out in public, but at least they are covered up, usually. The rotund people in skimpy swimsuits is the most unattractive to me.
If you or someone you know crafts, especially the yarn crafts, a shawl is a relatively simple thing to make. It's essentially a rectangle. I have one I made that looks like it has a LOT of holes and can't do a thing to help keep you warm, but it's really soft and snuggly and keeps me nice and cosy. I almost always make my own for stuff like this. It's just better. Side note: If you ask someone else to make it, take their price and either double it or pay 150% of asking price. GOOD yarn costs a lot of money, and remember you're paying for their skill and time. (I've been asked to make stuff by people who expect the price they'd get from a clothing equivalent of walmart. And to have it that same week. Those people get refused, obviously.) But the handmade stuff is almost always better.
@@juliatarrel1674 I’m a crafter and quilter and just about every other needlework through the years. I quilted professionally for a number of years. Whenever anyone asked me to make a double wedding ring quilt my answer was that just making the top not including fabric or quilting was $1000. Funny how I never had to make one. I did quilt a couple though. I have several, okay a lot of, pashminas that I use even not on cruises. I’ve bought a few when on cruises. They are warm, stylish and can make a white outfit colorful and able to be worn a couple of times but look entirely different.
@@02sparklestars02 I hear you. I have a lot of respect for quilters. It's a very exacting craft, and I have enough 'fun' matching stripes across seams, or making the four-point intersection in pants that I know it's not for me! Enjoy your craft, Sparklestars. On the topic of shawls, I've made a variety of shawls and scarves. I enjoy playing with shawls in different thicknesses of yarn, different textured yarns, different shawl shapes and (of course) different colours. Different shawls give a very different look to the same dress. But buy the pashmina shawls if you want a tight knit of a narrow yarn. I don't have the patience to do one of those by hand!
I’m with you, pajamas should never be worn in public. On a cruise or otherwise. Pajamas are NOT day wear. Loungewear is better. Much more appropriate for being seen in public.
I totally agree with you - wear what you are comfortable with. If you are uncomfortable, you will most likely not be too happy. That's why cruising is the best - no one cares and they aren't looking at you! One thing I always pack is a light-up, battery operated, magnification mirror. Amazon has tons of inexpensive ones that are so handy - I never travel without it.
I totally agree with you Ilana! We do dress up for the "formal" night hubby's a truck driver and I'm a retired nurse ( spent my life in scrubs) so dressing up is fun for us. Like you said a fancy top and skirt and hubby a light suit. Now the PJ's that should stay in the cabin. I like the idea of lounge wear. One that I remember was at sea day brunch a woman in PJ's robe (maybe the robe made it ok?) hair net and slippers. Really! The cover up in the Lido is good also but some people feel the need to advertise. ( it is free entertainment for people watchers) The good attitude, smile and gratitude will always make life better.
Some of us have husband's who wear blue jeans every day of their lives. I put aside my husband's nicer ones for this Alaska cruise and nice shirts and shoes. He did agree to wear slacks on formal nights but no jacket. We stick to the more casual cruises and avoid the more formal.
I recommend wearing on and off ship a pair of athletic shoes that way you don’t have to pack them…same thing with jeans….you want to wear on your heaviest clothes so your luggage is lighter! Remember if you are not going to wear it off it will add weight to luggage if you fly home. Same with coats traveling from cold weather to warm or vice versa… you may feel silly but double up for travel to avoid extra charges for suitcase limits!
I agree totally. I have a very modest swimsuit. The bottoms are long like bicycle shorts. I’m not one for showing too much skin. It’s just my choice. What others do is none of my business. I do this for me. I’ve seen some highly questionable swimsuits on teenagers on the cruises. I question the parental input on their choices but it’s not my child. My child wouldn’t be wearing them.
@@angelaherring5443 I wear a modest one piece swimsuit with a sarong. I've seen young women wearing only an itsy, bitsy bikini at the buffet. They should be told to cover up.
@@manonsinclairladyofblairad9675 I agree but if we did say something then we’d be interfering so it would be best to hold our tongues and just shake our heads. I’m raising grandchildren and the oldest is a female at 12 and the boys are already looking at her. She tried wearing short skirts but I stopped that quickly. I cut them up and threw them in the trash. I suppose I’m mean but I will not give those boys a reason to ogle my grand daughter.
I ended up buying a shaw on my last cruise because you are right, it can get cold. After I bought it went with me everywhere on the ship. One of the best buys hands down.
I agree about pjs. Around here (in GA) people wear pjs everywhere but for heaven's sake, dress better on a cruise! I love to buy cute cheap sundresses and I wear those to breakfast and to the buffet. I wear gowns to sleep in anyway so it has that same feel, I suppose. Thanks for the video!
I was recently on a Norwegian cruise in the Hawaiian islands and I saw a couple of men wearing politically charged t-shirts which were extremely inappropriate.
I hate it when people do that or talk about politics really loudly at the next table. My dad and I were eating one night at the restaurant on the Viking cruise line and we heard someone talking about well a political leader we don’t agree with very loudly and saying how great he is and how trustworthy he is (trustworthy and politician don’t belong in the same sentence). Once back in the room we both laughed so hard about that situation. Don’t be those people.
Already subscribed, people, hit the like button. Cunard you need a jacket every night to enter the MDR. If anyone wears shorts in the MDR they will freeze. The air conditioning is too high. Same with a short sleeve shirt. No Camo clothing. Wore that enough when in the military. Pajamas in the dining room or buffett??? are you crazy??? They have one on Cunard. Always bring closed toe shoes. People pay attention to what others are wearing. And many times they state objections.
You are perfectly entitled to your opinion, and the people who disagree with you are usually the ones who go to the grocery store in their pajamas. I was brought up in a time where you didn't go anywhere without looking your best. It's a matter of self-respect and respect for others. Clearly many do not subscribe anymore.
I was on Mariner of the Seas and many families wore matching pajamas around the ship Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Many were getting the pictures taken! I did and it was fun but normally I wouldn’t do this!
We did this as well, on DCL (Disney) at pjs welcome events. Honestly... what kind of person sneers at a room full of sleepy little kids, all in adorable pjs, on Christmas Eve, munching on cookies, sipping cocoa, cuddling their favourite toys... listening to Mrs Claus tell a bedtime story. 🤷
We are going on a cruise in August and I am already getting prepared by watching your videos. I love them. a white outfit is very welcome because I hadn’t thought that.😊 I will keep watching your videos and taking notes. Thanks a lot.
We don't do formal nights on cruises we have to fly to. We don't want the extra clothes. My pet peeve is men wearing hats in the dining room. All those years in the military drilled that into me.
I have several "a little sparkly" tops that I can just throw in my suitcase, they don't wrinkle, and take one pair of flowy black capris and a nice dressier sandal in black, and I wear these every night in the dining room. Just dressy enough for the nicer restaurants and the formal nights. AND, I feel like I'm on a nice vacation in a fancy restaurant even on the not-formal nights.
I also bought a pair of swim shoes a few years ago and they are a game changer. They have to a good sole so are comfortable and are easy to wash the sand off! Nothing worse than walking in the sand and the water and then have either sand covered feet or wet feet that get sandy/muddy when leaving the beach. I have even worn them while walking around a cruise port.
PJ'S don't belong in public, and your suggestion was excellant. My friend and I take shorts, capris and skorts for port days and around the ship. For nights at the dining rooms, or at a show, we have a couple of dresses , a jumpsuit, or a pant outfit. None of these outfits are super dressy, but are tasteful and stylish. For us, it's part of the fun of a cruise!
My wife tends to wear a nice long silk skirt and blouse on dressy nights. Honestly, except for the jewelry, she dresses nice every night. On our Celebrity cruises, on Chic nights, I wear a pair of slacks (actually really nice cargo pants) and a high end camp (Aloha) shirt. We're talking Nat Nast and Tommy Bahama, not Hilo Hattie's here. Other nights, I wear cargos or jeans and a very nice polo or button up shirt, what we used to call "office casual" (in the days of suits or at least ties). I actually did the same on our last Holland (pre-pandemic) cruise on Formal night. I had noticed other gentlemen wearing slacks and a dressy shirt so didn't think there'd be a problem (and there wasn't). In the "old days" (pre-pandemic), I'd usually rent a tux for the week to wear on Formal night. Some of our favorite cruise photos were from those nights.
Was disappointed on our 1st cruise. We brought a full on suit for my husband. Complete with tie and flower in his lapel. I had dress, shawl, jewelry etc. Dinner was "special" until the guy at the next table wore his jeans t shirt and baseball hat. We looked at the server/maitre d. No one said a single word to him. We thought formal night meant you would not be served in the main dining room unless you were dressed properly. It's just one night. Go to the buffet if you didn't bring the right clothes. It was our anniversary and we felt a little bummed.
I could understand. Cruise dress codes are changing, even when they aren’t “official”, so this is very possible if you aren’t on a more formal cruise line. I’m sure you both looked fabulous and I do hold that you enjoyed your special night on your first cruise anyway 😊
how RUDE of that person to wear what they wanted to dinner on their vacation and ruin YOUR anniversary. The audacity.... (where is that sarcasm font....)
I was just on the Oasis of the Seas and I was shocked at how slovenly the passengers were dressed for the main dining room. I made my 13 year old son wear dress pants and shirts to the dining room and there were grown men in shorts and a t shirt! Also, our cruise had wear all white one night and another day was wear all red. I wish I had known about this but went to bed relatively early so we didnt attend those parties. I also recommend for the ladies to bring several day dresses. Every morning i would put one on to go to breakfast. It was fast and comfortable AND appropriate wear for any venue in the morning.
I really appreciated your final comments. Like others, I watch your videos to get ideas of norms, but the more I watch, the more I realize that I just need to feel good. 👍
Pack a pair of jogging pants if you need to be cozy outside your room and leave the pjs for private time. Any bed attire makes you look dirty in public. No pjs no bonnets outside of your cabin please
I agree with you, pjs belong in the cabin. I agree with the lounge wear much more appropriate! People do actually pay attention to what you wear. Remember the Wal-Mart videos that manage to show up on various media sites? Something to think about. LOL I enjoy you videos and find them very helpful although I am not a first-time cruiser. Keep up the good work!
It seems like athletic wear might be a good idea for those times when you want to wear something relaxing or get a quick drink of coffee and pastry in the morning to bring back to your room. I think a pair of joggers and a T-shirt might be best. And I agree with some others that said they can go to Walmart to see people in their PJ's inpublic.
Thank you so much! We are cruising for the first time and this has been very helpful while shopping for cruise wear! I love the excuse to dress up and just want to enhance the whole cruise experience!
I agree with everything you said. I would add Please do not wear the complimentary bathrobes out and about. We were on one cruise where there was an obnoxiously loud man that wore his bathrobe (like it was some kind of prize) everywhere. We had the misfortune to run into him every breakfast and several lunches. He berated his wife and children loudly and constantly. We stopped eating in the Wind Jammer as we could not deal with his behavior.
I honestly miss the days of true formal dining. I loved seeing everyone dressed to the nines on formal night. The dress made the experience classy and elegant
Yes. I will quietly compliment those ladies who make an effort to dress nice. Your choice doesn't need to be new or expensive. Most of us have a nice dress or outfit in the back of our closet we hardly ever have an opportunity to wear. This is the perfect place and time to enjoy wearing.
I agree. My grandparents were big travelers. I'm 56 now and always loved looking at photos from their grand adventures, especially when cruising. Gram and Gramps usually went wth friends and everyone was dressed in their finest for dinner. I still have some of my GM's fave pieces of cruisewear costume jewelry she wore. On a side note, if G&G flew somewhere...like a European trip...they also got dressed up for the flight. Flying off on a fabulous vacation was a special occasion and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for some folks so looking your best was the way to go. This was back in the 70's and 80's when we could still send family off at the actual gate at the airport. My cousins and I always enjoyed seeing the planes departing and arriving before seeing G&G get on their flight. Sorry for rambling but just got a lot of fond memories lol.
@@stacythomas1587 Im a few years older and grew up the same. It was expected we dress nicely to go out. Out to dinner, shopping at the mall, flying on a plane. Church obviously. I always felt a little more special dressed up. And no we werent rich we were just told to show respect for oursleves and those around us.
I have one exception to the pjs in the MDR. We did a Christmas cruise on Princess and it was great fun to see families with children wearing matching Christmas pjs to breakfast Christmas morning
No pajamas. Really? Save it for the room. About the MDR. I agree 100%. My gf and I use our cruise ship experience as 7 date nights. We can wear shorts and jeans at home. The MDR is a big deal .
On Viking cruise line last year (October/November of 2023; my dad and I did a 15 day Panama Canal cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale), one morning my dad and I went to breakfast in the main dining room (honestly we ate most of our meals here if it was open we were there) I wore a pair of black sweatpants, a t-shirt, and my Viking red zip up Helly Henson jacket (wore my jacket the entire time because I was cold). I believe my dad wore khaki shirts and an Under Armour workout shirt. I probably wore my Birkenstock slides and my dad wore sneakers (he got finished walking around the promenade deck). No one said a word. But the dining room was practically empty at this time. We probably ate at around 9AM.
I was about to say, I’m in Texas and flip flops are daily wear for me! I wouldn’t wear them to dinner but I’d definitely wear them throughout the day 🤷🏻♀️
For formal night my husband wears dress pants, dress shirt, a fancy leather vest, and a tie. The vest makes it less casual, and it packs without wrinkling. I wear a black skirt and sparkly blouse.I wear the skirts during the day as well, with a t-shirt or casual top, and as a coverup over my bathing suit. So 3 all purpose black skirts gets me through a week on a cruise. I bring a couple pairs of lounge shorts which I sleep in, or wear with a t shirt if it is warm. I love my black pashmina shawl. I wear it on the plane as a scarf.
For fancy flip flops, I like Jack Rogers brand. They even have wedges. I’m not big on high heels but will wear the wedges if my outfit calls for it (like a maxi dress and just certain outfit the wedge looks better).
Back in the 90’s no one ever wore jeans on a cruise. So, I still would feel funny wearing them now. But that’s just me. I agree about not wearing pajamas that definitely look like pajamas.
Yes. I don't wear jeans in the dining room. It's not difficult to change into black slacks and a pretty shirt each night for dinner and theatre. I bring along a nice dress or dressy pantsuit for formal nights. Usually no need for shopping for a new wardrobe for a cruise. The only thing I'm buying this Alaska trip is a pair of sneakers for my husband and binoculars...
Regarding pjs, there are light-weight cotton or knit pants that can be used as pj pants. However, so long as they are reasonably plain (that is, they don’t have those cute cartoons or prints on them), I think those are fine in public. They are amazingly comfortable. Now, I wouldn’t wear them in the dining room or somewhere more formal, but to the buffet or the pool as a cover-up.
Personally, I wouldn’t pick the shorts lounge set because I’m always cold. I’m 5’6” with long legs and often shorts are not made for my body type. But the pants set is perfect for me.
Hi Ilana, me wear a "speed-o"? Heck at our age I'd be wearing a "slow down-o". Shorts are usually allowed for the first night on the Celebrity ships due to potential late arrival of luggage to your cabin. Hi from Bob and Jill in Connecticut
I have a pretty black tulip dress that I use as a coverup/dress. It's appropriate for every dining option. All I need to do is switch my choice of shoe but I mainly wear it during the day so I can go into the MDR or other specialty dining for lunch without the stress of needing to change a lot.
I love to dress up. Where else can I wear sequins and not look crazy? LOL pjs are for your cabin only. The lounge sets are fine. A suggestion for the super casual people could be yoga pants, also. When we bring our 39 yr old with autism, he often wears shorts in MDR in Royal, but with a nice polo or short sleeve button down shirt and has been fine. Shorts are OK for men as well, just not ripped cut offs or athletic shorts, and baseball caps in MDR? No!
lol I love that! Cruises are one place we can get as dressed up as we like!! 😂 That said, things are definitely becoming more casual and it seems cruise lines are adapting
We just recently went on a Royal Caribbean cruise during the NFL draft. A gentleman showed up on formal dinner night wearing a Los Angeles Chargers Jersey, Chargers shorts, Chargers tennis shoes & socks and a gaudy Chargers beaded necklace with a shot glass. He was turned back to his room.
There was a couple at my church and the man wore Steelers gear every Sunday during football season and probably past that. Our priest was a sports freak so nothing was ever said from the pulpit about dressing appropriately. It's just tacky unless you're going to the sports bar on the ship.
I absolutely agree with the fact that other than Cunard most of the other cruise ships are more casual with their formal nights. Leggings and a T shirt for women, shorts and a T shirt for men for bed is a good option especially if you wake hungry for pizza in the middle of the night you don’t have to change out of PJ’s . Flip flops whilst good on board can be a little sloppy if you put wet feet into them straight out of the pool dry your feet or run the risk of a potential ankle sprain ( I should know the flip flop/ thong - yes I’m Aussie ) is pretty much our national shoe so I’m very aware of what can happen wearing them. A rubber slide is actually slightly safer with wet feet . Plus in some areas of some boats you need to wear covered shoes so don’t leave them as your only option when packing.
Hi Ilana, love your "bring the good attitude & smile". I like the dress code as it's respectful to oneself, others & the events. My husband & I are dancers, we therefore always bring our indoor dancing shoes so that we can comfortably dance throughout the evening:-)
Going to MDR's are like going to a nice restaurant. Shorts and T shirts are OK, but they should be nice ones. You should dress as though you're going to a nice restaurant.
Going on blues cruise next month, not worried about my clothes, not going to specialty restaurants, going for pure pleasure, fun, partying….this crowd will be really laid back.
If i may add one thing in. We are going on our first Bahamas cruise in February. My cousin who is also going, and has been on many Carnival cruises, says that she gets a couple of cute sundresses and wears those on formal nights.
I don't generally wear flip flops to the MDR, but I have had a hell of a time finding dressy shoes that fit my foot since breaking and dislocating my ankle. My foot will swell up like crazy. I had to show my scar to one person and it wasn't a problem (it's 6inches up the outside of my ankle).
Hi Llana, I have been watching your videos and have learned so much! I was wondering if you could please provide your suggestions on what to wear on an Alaskan cruise. We are going in mid May and I'm not sure if I need a pair of gloves and a heavy coat. Thanks so much!
We were on the Sky Princess in March and I was surprised to see lots of men wearing shorts(some not so great ones) in the main dining room on casual nights- (not the first or last nights). I asked if the dress code had changed, and I was told that it had. Don't know if this applies to all Princess ships, but I was surprised they were allowed. This cruise was extremely casual compared to previous Princess cruises we have been on.
Interesting. I have seen shorts on occasion on Princess, but I’ve also heard of men being told shorts aren’t allowed. Perhaps it depends on the maître d
Dining in the MDR is a special experience as seen in the decor. Its not McDonald's, or an ice-cream parlor, so please treat it as such. Go to the buffet if you don't want to step up your attire just a bit. It is really not very becoming of someone to walk in in shorts and flip flops even if you don't get turned away. Take some pride in yourself, your ship mates, and the surroundings and dress accordingly. Would you go to the pool deck in dress pants and dress shoes and lounge around like that?
I have a lot of "lounge sets" and that's normally what I sleep in, and I did wear them down for breakfast. Even got compliments! Lots and lots of the women wore thong swimsuits. I'm not quite that bold, I don't really have an issue with it, but it's a little disrespectful to other couples or families I feel like.
Please no pajamas or bath robes in the dining rooms/buffet. I get that dress codes are more casual on a cruise and everywhere in general but you are still sharing public space with others.
The biggest question I still have after looking at the RCL dress code was sleeveless shirts vs. "tanks" in the MDR since some I have are fancy (have metallic woven in) and I would dress it up with a cardigan and fancy scarf. Lot of nice viscose and lycra blend tank/sleeveless tops out there that with the right accessories could have a more lux look (and would be less prone to wrinkles).
Ilana's top in this video is sleeveless. If you're wearing your cardigan with your arms through the sleeves (and not tied around your shoulders), you should be fine since no one will know you're wearing a tank top.
What I liked about NCL was the casual dress code though I did always wear a nice dress in the MDR and at the speciality restaurants. The MDR had a dress code which I appreciated cause it was silver service all the time. I'm not a fan of flip flops & just wore my water shoes at the pool cause the desks could get very hot 👣😀
I do wear flip flops to the pool, but take water shoes when I know they're doing a zumba type class on deck. Did it barefoot once and had huge blood blisters on the balls of my feet for the rest of the cruise!
You need to recommend more cover ups for men. Like a kaftan or something like that. Some of us don’t like to put shorts over our swimsuit since it’s damp.
Instead of lounge wear you could take yoga pants and pair them up with a t-shirt for during the day and for formal attire for women ,pack.a pair of dress trousers with a white blouse or any colour blouse that suits you with long sleeves and always pack a black formal bag for your purse ,keys and other essential items including medication .
Virgin Voyages has a pajama party one night and people wear their pajamas before and after the event. Some really get creative and it’s a lot of fun to participate and/or watch.
My wife and I have cruised for years but we enjoy it so much, we also start making sure we have what we want to bring early. We evolve with the trends and enjoy the planning process. It has been as much as two years between cruises but as soon as we finish one, we are planning our next. Enjoy you cruise and have fun!
The most difficult thing about a cruise is not over packing. Lol... One video was talking straight to me when she said don't bring a different pair of shoes for each outfit. Lol...
Hopefully, I will be one my third cruise next April '24 and I'm planning now lol. I just found Illana's videos abt two weeks ago and have been binge-watching almost every night!
Thank you so much for including suggestions for men!! I've seen so many of these what to wear on different cruises that only focus on women's fashion. Happy Easter from south Texas.
I have to say my 1st cruise on NCL I was surprised when a family of about 6 came to the main dining room for breakfast in their pj's. Plus one teenager was wearing very stained Pj's. They appeared to be a homeless family from Portland,OR freeway off ramps. I don't know if something was said to them since this was the first breakfast on board but I didn't notice them again.
My boyfriend and I were on anthem of the seas before the shut down. Getting him to just wear a polo was like pulling teeth. Needless to say he spent pretty much every evening in shorts and a tshirt or jeans and a tshirt in the main dining room. Royal Caribbean is pretty lenient
You always have such good suggestions. Thanks for the tip on bringing a white outfit. I cruise in a few days and I am using your guide book to keep myself organized! Thank you! 🌹

You should reciprocate by wearing smart, clean clothes while at these venues. As a retired Merchant Marine Officer of 49 years service (although I never worked on passenger/cruise ships), in the officer's dining room uniformed waiters used silver service. All officers reciprocated by wearing full uniform.
If you want to wear PJ's to eat, I recommend ordering room service. It's free on most cruises and usually the coffee is better.
The woke slobs, have taken over. However we will show them how to dress.
Thats perfect!
I totally agree about the swimsuit coverups. On our last cruise, I was totally amazed by how many young ladies as well as older ladies didn’t wear a coverup in the Buffett area.
I’m with you on this 👍
Yea. Honestly, i feel like they should make it a rule that everyone must have a top and shoes (not barefoot.) before entering.
In many cases that could seriously ruin your appetite!
@@vanceb1 you got that right! I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many full rear ends in all my life!
Yes. Where is common sense...
Those people get refused, obviously.)
But the handmade stuff is almost always better.
❤️😂
Some of us have husband's who wear blue jeans every day of their lives. I put aside my husband's nicer ones for this Alaska cruise and nice shirts and shoes. He did agree to wear slacks on formal nights but no jacket. We stick to the more casual cruises and avoid the more formal.
I’m taking a cruise for my first time and all your videos have been so helpful. Thanks for this channel!
I like to keep a sense of decorum and dress appropriately. I would never wear a pyjama in public or clothes that leave little to the imagination.
I hear you :)
@@Mrs.Skull_ Estoy de acuerdo!
@@Mrs.Skull_ People here in the US don't have any respect for themselves or anyone else around them when it comes to dressing in ghetto pajamas.
Agree! Cover your goods people & please don't come out your cabin with pajamas lol active wear is very comfortable for early mornings.
Activewear is perfect 👍
Esp ball caps! No one minds if you are bald just take it off
As a older lady I was taught as a kid that men don’t wear hats at the table. So I still think that.
Last week when my daughter was told she needs a cover up to enter the Windjammer, I secretly said yeeessss. She would not listen to me.
Lol love it! Sometimes someone else needs to tell them 😂
I guess they would be some Furniture being moving around in Here! Not paying attention to Your Parents!
Knot Head !!
Ball caps in the MDR are a peeve of mine. But I also grew up no hats inside the house
Cover ups a must while walking around ship & pajamas in room only in my opinion
Has it come to this? We must dress each other? MYOB and IWMM. More serious concerns can be explored. And yes, I like Crocs
I agree with you, pjs belong in the cabin. I agree with the lounge wear much more appropriate! People do actually pay attention to what you wear. Remember the Wal-Mart videos that manage to show up on various media sites? Something to think about. LOL
I enjoy you videos and find them very helpful although I am not a first-time cruiser. Keep up the good work!
Great info and I'm in agreement with you on all points. I vote no pj's outside of cabin...
Pajamas outside are a pet peeve to me
All I picture in my head is the person in bed sleeping in them and rolling out no shower
Sad!
I have sparkly, silver flip flops for dressing up. With a dressy casual outfit I think it’s fine for dinner.
I cannot believe anyone would wear pyjamas outside of their cabins! Oh my goodness!
I was surprised too, but according to many comments on my past video, this is a bit of a thing 🤔😂
@@LifeWellCruisedWouldn’t it just be easier for the pyjama brigade to order breakfast in their cabin! :))))
I think that Christmas pis on Christmas day is the ONLY exception.
No pajamas.
I live in Florida. I live in flip
Flops. They are high quality leather and are quite costly. I wear them to dinner on the cruise ship.
I envy you! I love Florida life🏝
I live in Florida now too. We live in flip flops all year long, but I wear heels when going out.
I was about to say, I’m in Texas and flip flops are daily wear for me! I wouldn’t wear them to dinner but I’d definitely wear them throughout the day 🤷🏻♀️
I like your last suggestion 'wear a smile and good attitude 😊 '
Great video . Along with shawl I suggest a sweatshirt hooded jacket or light hooded jacket for evening, early morning or unfortunate rainy moments.
For fancy flip flops, I like Jack Rogers brand. They even have wedges. I’m not big on high heels but will wear the wedges if my outfit calls for it (like a maxi dress and just certain outfit the wedge looks better).
Great video.
I'd add a cap or hat for the hot areas.
Another reason to bring closed toes shoes are for the excursions like ATVing, camel riding etc.
Absolutely!! 👌
I seen carnival turn a guy away at dining wearing flip flops & tank top for dinner
I forget to mention that the first night is much more relaxed!! Thanks for mentioning
Yes! Most of us ladies have a couple of dresses and outfits in the back of our closets - just waiting for this occasion to be worn.
I hope I remember the cruise more than what other people wear. I see tons of info on what to pack and wear, appreciate the tips.
Wow
Very true! So I didn’t realize that flip flops were called thongs in Australia- I’m glad to learn something new 😂
I'm old enough to remember when they were called thongs in the states!!
They are called jandals in New Zealand and like Australia are also probably the national shoe in summer 😊
Definitely keep pajamas in the cabin! And YAS thank you for talking about cover ups. So tired of seeing half naked folks at the buffet 🤦🏼♀️
Hi Ilana, love your "bring the good attitude & smile". I like the dress code as it's respectful to oneself, others & the events. My husband & I are dancers, we therefore always bring our indoor dancing shoes so that we can comfortably dance throughout the evening:-)
Love this!! I’m not a dancer but love to watch - so elegant
It is tacky to wear pajamas in public, period.
Poor you! Definitely you have to wear what’s comfortable
I was shocked to see people wearing pajamas at the buffet. We need to remember we aren't in our kitchen, the buffet is a public space.
Some people have no one teaching them how to behave in public!
It seems more common I hear….
Wearing sweats or track pants that are loose is one thing but PJs are a completely different thing.
Hi Llana, I have been watching your videos and have learned so much! I was wondering if you could please provide your suggestions on what to wear on an Alaskan cruise. We are going in mid May and I'm not sure if I need a pair of gloves and a heavy coat. Thanks so much!
My husband and myself are getting so excited we’re going on Our First Cruise September 18-22 2023
I’m very casual but agree on the pjs.
Nope. Not wearing my pjs around the ship. Just as easy to throw on my sun 👗 for going out of my cabin.
If you don't have a pashmina, they are on sale the first day or so on the ship and very reasonably priced.
Good tip
I'm going on the cruise to relax and that is just what I will do pj's are relaxing.
Please no pajamas or bath robes in the dining rooms/buffet. I get that dress codes are more casual on a cruise and everywhere in general but you are still sharing public space with others.
Well said 👏
The biggest question I still have after looking at the RCL dress code was sleeveless shirts vs.
Nice! I like NCL too. Nice vibe
I do wear flip flops to the pool, but take water shoes when I know they're doing a zumba type class on deck. Did it barefoot once and had huge blood blisters on the balls of my feet for the rest of the cruise!
@@doreenburger4523 ouch!!
Great ideas. Pajamas in public? NEVER!
Virgin Voyages has a pajama party one night and people wear their pajamas before and after the event. Some really get creative and it’s a lot of fun to participate and/or watch.
Going on my first ever cruise later this year. Thank u for all your videos, im such an over thinker I start planning and researching early 🙂
Sounds like we’re the same 😉
My wife and I have cruised for years but we enjoy it so much, we also start making sure we have what we want to bring early.
I think that’s a great idea to wear lounge sets instead of pajamas outside cabin. Another alternative is leggings and a cute T-shirt
Absolutely!! I must say I love my leggings and yoga pants 😂
absolutely not for the leggings, leave those smelly things at home and look more presentable
@@sueloxton8668 my stretch pants are always clean and my blouses unwrinkled. My shoes are always clean. Some of us can look good in casual clothes.
Thank you for educating those who were not taught😁
My husband wears dress shorts with a button down shirt or polo in MDR and has never been turned away. But he looks good.
Thank you so much for including suggestions for men!!
I've seen so many of these what to wear on different cruises that only focus on women's fashion.
Happy Easter from south Texas.
Glad you enjoyed the video Christian. I’ll be making a video with dress code suggestions and packing tips for men soon :)
Love your videos! My husband and I enjoy cruising and find your videos are so helpful.
A wind breaker can be used either for a chilly evening or in the rain.
I don't like flip flops on board due to the slippery floors that may be encountered. I like a sandal with a better sole.
You’re right. I hadn’t thought of that for indoors and potentially slippery floors
Great suggestions for the dress code on a cruise !
Totally agree with your POV!
Anthem was my favorite ship
That seems just fine got Royal. They are more casual these days :)
You always have such good suggestions. Thanks for the tip on bringing a white outfit. I cruise in a few days and I am using your guide book to keep myself organized! Thank you! 🌹
