Big thanks to the EER Discord for helping me find these Pokémon! - discord.gg/eliteredux I'll see y'all in there! Also I will be trying to Upload 2 videos a week and there will be a new video on Friday 🎉🎉
I’d actually love to see more vids where you cover more Pokémon that have been insanely buffed like these 4. I’m so used to the mainline games where there’s so many Mons that are just mid or worse versions of another Mon or just plain bad, so seeing what’s been made amazing in here would be awesome
I'd also like to nominate Meowstic-Female for the Insanely Buffed category. Sage Power and Psychic Mind boosts its damage output tremendously, and Hyper Aggressive lets it break through Sash and deal effectively an extra 25% more damage. Psychic Surge boosts Psychic moves even _more_ as well as blocking incoming priority, and very few things can outspeed max invested 104 Speed with a Choice Scarf Aside from Dark Types, there's basically nothing in the game that lives an Expanding Force from it
The actual reason Vikavolt is so cracked statwise here is because the creator of Inclement Emerald made it so. Buffel Saft wanted Vikavolt to be Alola's second Pseudo Legendary since before IE, when he made his Gen 7 romhacks PhotonicSun/Prismatic Moon
I'm glad to have been in vc with you the other day and tell you about how insane Bastiodon and Vikavolt are! The changes in this game brought up almost every pokemon to shine and that's the true beauty of this game.
I wanna see you cover my goat Aggron, they gave him similar changes to what Bastiodon got, but with a twist that made it feel like Aggron, and not just worse Bastiodon
first time i fought a vikavolt in game (i think it was the lilycove rival fight) i was so caught off guard and was going in blind. i'd expected it to be the slow hard hitting mon it was in gen 7 and got absolutely trashed when it outsped everything on my team
Another great pokemon that i see many people sleeping on is swoobat, its not really good for late game but in early game its one of the best setupmons in the game,it has the ability "simple" which doubles all stat boost,u can give it agility, calm mind,amnesia/nasty plot and baton pass to combo with any special attacker for massive damage,my fav being espeon with stored power + choice specs, the last time i used it it dealt 4000 damage XD
As how these buffs apply in practice: Rampardos and vikavolt haven’t been used that much yet, so unsure about them. Bastiodon has been used a bit as a much more sturdy alternative to mega steelix, which exchanges offensive threat and worse typing for being more statistically sturdy and not taking up the mega slot. Alolan marowak hasn’t seen much use, but kanto wak was ripping ou to shreds, since nothing in the tier switches into skill link bone rush, and the few that did, like stamina forretress, can be exploited via sd and/or sub into bonemarrang, which hit harder than fire punch against heatproof forretress. Thus, kanto wal got banned to Ubers.
Honestly checks out. Even against AI trainers here as background footage, anything, actually anything weak to Ground, immediately vaporized before Water Shuriken on crack. It’s basically a free Mega slot, complete with a specific held item, and even gets essentially Huge Power from that item. It does not surprise me at all that the priority multihit Huge Power Tinted Lens Thousand Arrows is beyond the pale of busted. This whole game looks like bullshit (affectionate), but I genuinely believe that One Bone Man can take on Primal Cascoon with enough switches.
1) I always liked signature items and how they affect balance for certain Pokemon; removing its item slot for a set in stone boost. So it sucks when a Pokemon with a really strong signature item and, at times, _three_ signature moves still fails to keep up in the mainline games. Seeing a souped up version of the mon make full use of its signature moves and have a place to shine is great. I'm not sure how I feel about Bone Rush becoming a priority move, though. It's probably the best way to buff Marowak - especially since it gets Skill Link now - without going too overboard on stats, but they _did_ amp Vikavolt up to _600 bst,_ so giving Marowak at least 500 bst wouldn't be too crazy. Bone Rush becoming priority lowkey feels more like a Lucario buff than a Marowak buff. What they could do is make Bone Club closer to Shadow Bone (75 bp to 90 bp and 95% accuracy to 100% accuracy; and yes, I _am_ going to point out how they left Bone Club at 95% accuracy while it is still 25% less powerful than Earthquake and having a flinch chance on a mon with 45 base Speed. Ya'll need an early game Ground STAB? Bulldoze is right there) and give it the chance to lower Defense rather than a chance to flinch (again, on a mon with 45 base Speed). Then change Bone Rush from a Water Shuriken clone to a Bullet Seed clone; with Skill Link it goes from a 75 bp priority STAB to a 125 bp non-priority STAB. And finally bring up its stats so it has better defenses and Speed. That way, it gets a signature move for every ability (Bonemerang for Technician - which would probably be its best ability paired with Mach Punch and Shadow Sneak for priority coverage, Bone Rush for Skill Link, and Bone Club for Stamina) while not stepping more into buffing Mega Lucario territory. Therein lies another issue, though, where Skill Link Bone Rush is pretty much worse than Technician Bonemerang. I have no solution to this aside from stuffing Marowak with a ton of other multi-hit moves; it pretty much only has Bone Rush and Rock Blast to benefit from Skill Link as of now. 2) I like the inclusion of Primal Armor to combat its quad weaknesses, but another balancing option is to use P:LA's super effectiveness multipliers for the game: where a single weakness is 2x as normal, but a double weakness is only a 2.5x damage mult rather than 4x. I don't really see any scenario where a would-be broken mon is reigned in solely by a quad weakness, but I do see a _ton_ of examples of defensive mons being absolutely gutted in viability by quad weaknesses. I also don't think Iron Barbs works quite as well for Bastiodon thematically, since it doesn't really have that many pointy bits. Intimidate or Bulletproof (letting it block Aura Sphere and especially Focus Blast) would work better, both thematically and in practice imo. 3) Predator is a weird choice of ability, since Rampardo isn't based on a carnivorous dinosaur. It's based primarily off of Pachycephalosaurus, which is commonly believed to be predominantly herbivorous (meaning Sap Sipper would actually be a better fit, given the ability's Japanese name of "Herbivorous"). Even with that aside, restoring 25% of its max hp per KO isn't really that good for a hyper glass cannon mon. Having it retain Mold Breaker would be better both thematically, because it is part of the evolution line that first showcased the ability back in Gen 4, and functionally, because bypassing defensive abilities does have quite a fair share of uses. Though, regardless, Hyper-Aggressive will probably be ran over both of them 99% of the time. 4) Finally giving Vikavolt good Speed is another form of justice that I'm glad to see. Having it be sort of a pseudo-legendary is a bit much though, imo. Even just taking 50 from its Attack - because let's face it: _no one_ is running physical moves on it anyways - so it has the same bst as Volcarona would be a lot more fitting. An underrated change that Elite Redux gives it is Aurora Beam, letting it finally have boltbeam coverage. It's based on a sci-fi railgun, so it also fits. Although if we're going that route, then I'd go full out and give it access to Ice Beam and Flamethrower as well. It can't really up its Sp. Atk outside of Throat Spray Bug Buzz, so it isn't like giving it more coverage would break it (even with the boost to its base Speed, it still lives and dies almost solely on how good its Electric moves are). And even if it were broken... it's a freaking Gradius looking ahh railgun beetle. Let it be broken just this once.
Honestly the buff turning Vikavolt into a speed demon really caught me off guard, its not the best pokemon, sure, but I loved using it in Sun and it was a reliable ally in Violet (probably because they just gave me a free thunderstone as a Pokedex reward, level 20 vikavolt is absurd) so seeing a pokemon I already used getting that absurd buff was just beautiful.
Ok, so here's the thing, since you talked about both the gen 4 fossils in this one... what about both the Gen 3 fossils! I've messed around with them both in competitive, and they've actually made it alot of fun, although I can't help but feel they have a lot of missed potential in some areas, Armaldo's issue being his abilities and Cradily's issue being a slightly constricting learnset, and maybe those isssues got changed! Also, Bastiodon getting Shore Up is making me ***really*** hopeful that Cradily got Scorching Sands or a better trapping move than Infestation and I just can't take that suspense lol.
Damn, I really think armaldo's abilities are freaking solid. Impenetrable head smash and wave crash with a free LO, no intimidate and more common crits, etc. Plus fossilize covers one of its weaknesses
Speed boost Dragupult baton passing to alolan marowak was insane. If its a bad matchup I switch to soul link umbreon then baton pass back to dragupult and repeat
Marowak can't do much without bone rush I used it with technician, the moves were mach punch, shadow sneak, bonemerang and rock blast, if it survives a hit it can hit hard and if the oponent survives, it has priority moves. Yet it wasn't enough until it got bone rush
contrary dragalge carried me in the early game, and is a great choice into color change bs because of the overwhelm ability making the color change fairy not cancel draco meteor… i also had a blast running psychic terrain spam with all the priority abilities everywhere, so gardevoir + sash zam are the homies

Seeing what all these Pokemon are capable of doing is fun and refreshing and you ALWAYS have access to something that can deal with something else as long as you know what you're doing
RAMPARDOOOOOOS! YYYYYEEEEEAAAAAAH! Sturdy+weakness policy+rock polish/swords dance let's it nuke plus they gave it accelerock. Check out scolipede or just poison types in general. Mono poison eats the whole game alive
Simple Contrary Spinda with Strength and I forget the other move carried me through the elite four and champion when I played. That thing is a monster.

Shore up isn’t a new move. It’s pallosand’s signature move.
I think Bone Zone just doubles the "not very effective" damage, thus making it neutral. At least thats how it was in Radical Red
That makes sense
