For those wondering how to count it, it's a bar of 5/8(2+3), then a bar of 4/4, then another bar of 5/8(3+2 this time), and it just repeats those three bars, 5/8, 4/4, 5/8, 5/8, 4/4, 5/8. You could call it 18/8 if you wanted to be quirky, but practically, that's how to count it

That sax player is crazy, amazing, I mean lyrical, intelligent, sophisticated, and technically brilliant. The rest of the musicians are equally accomplished, and as for the bass player, well I am totally smitten.

Kinga Glyk has put a great band together. She always gets a band that lays down some great sounds. I can not wait for the new album!
That horn player turns the session on about half way through and the band picks it up. So cool

So good! Everybody's playing is super tight, and just exceptional. You should all be very proud. Thanks, especially Kinga! You are very accomplished, especially considering your youth. Parts of this piece reminded me of Frank Zappa, others like Steely Dan. Poland should be very proud of you, I think you are a cultural treasure. Everybody, and I mean everybody, is so good and good together.

I still can't figure how it's 5/8, then 4/4 alternating; but for me, as a listener I'm not sure it matters. I can't count it correctly, but I still absolutely enjoy it. And I'm amazed at how locked in you all are.
Uh yes - that certainly tickled my fancy. The 4 of you certainly had that groove down to a T. Especially the drummer was just in the zone for the most part. Myself being a drummer, I might have a bias there ;-). But Kinga top marks for this wonderful piece of delightful music.
I love how this kinda sounds like Zappa's "Little Umbrellas" if George Duke and Tom Fowler played on it as well....

Nice Kinga, soul, jazz fusion works for me. I love quality musicianship. Not anything there for a vocalist to do much with, I gave up bass playing nearly 20 years ago. I concentrate on my own instrument now.

Jeebus! The musicianship! That bass clarinet/sax man was playing some juicy notes. Usually just the sight of a soprano sax sends me elsewhere, quick (it’s K G’s fault). I’m so glad I got baited by the clarinet before that happened.

I'm trying to count this tune and it's damn near impossible for me. I can feel the groove and I'm sure it's in 9 (except the bridge), but I'd love to know how the subdivisions are notated. Funky tune!
I think I figured it out. The drums were throwing me for a loop because a lot of the crashes are on the offbeats.
I think it"s an 8 count. the one actually on the 9.
At the beginning 4/4 (square ) part, tap your foot off the beat. Hold that rhythm and when the song switches to nines - (1,2,3 1,2,3 1,2,3) or (1,2, 1,2,3, 1,2,3,4) or (1,2,3,4, 1,2,3,4,5) or maybe (1,2,3,4 1,2,3,4 1 - 1,2,3,4, 1,2,3,4, 1) et cetera) - you end up on the beat instead of off the beat. At 3:05, it switches to 4/4, and at 3:32, it's back to a nine count, so it seems to me that they just play 1,2,3,4, until they add a beat, and from then on they count nines until they switch back to eights. These people are having such a good time! I have no formal music theory or training, but I just love this stuff.

Hints of Herbie Hancock "Thrust" LP from 1974 the great Paul Jackson on Bass, Bennie Maupin on the Sax.....pretty cool to hear today! Still not quite as good as "Thrust" and Herbie & Paul & Bennie but what or who is!
