- Based on the 1997 animated film, Anastasia comes to Broadway with a new score from the Tony-winning team behind Ragtime, Once On This Island and Seussical-Ahrens and Flaherty-along with the film’s classic songs, including the Oscar-nominated “Journey to the Past.”

I'll probably get Hell for this, but I'm glad they cut Rasputin out of the musical.
Hear me out. As much as I like the song In The Dark of The Night, Rasputin's character was pretty silly and a bit out of place with the rest of the film.
Isobel Duncan You're not alone. I always hated the magical aspect of the show. Even as a kid.
But the plot actually still works fine without him. Had to be some kind of "evil" driving force for the movie not to be boring, I suppose. But honestly, if he hadn't been in it, I still would have watched the movie. I also always fast forward his parts. They're boring.
I agree. This version is way more plausible.
nandini upadhyay forgive me, it really bothers me when people refer to the film as a Disney movie, so I have to correct everyone who does this. I hope you understand.
This film was produced by 20th century fox by Don Bluth Animation. Possibly the reason why people keep claiming it’s Disney is due to its success as a 90s animated musical, and having the main character be a princess, and, oh yeah, I guess the animal sidekick. But also because Don Bluth, and many who worked among him were originally from Disney. They did not like the way Disney as a company was going, and left in the late 70s to pursue their own animation (secret of nimh, American tail, land before time, etc). The special effects were also top notch, very comparable with Disney, if not better, considering that many iconic Disney animated scenes of that time were contracted out to Pixar, even before Toy Story.
nandini upadhyay it’s ok. It’s just that, even in the 90s, when it was new, people were claiming it was Disney. I dunno, maybe given the time, it could have been considered an honor, but no. I had to always correct them.
I wanna see this so bad, I hope it comes to the West End!!!
Happy Amy Yes please!!!
Happy Amy yass
it's in Stuttgart, Germany now. At least that's closer to the West End than Broadway, but it's in German obviously XD
In september it will come to the Netherlands as well!
It is supposed to but now who knows with c*vid and everything
I'm praying that this does well enough to come to the west end
Erin Sarah same
Erin Sarah Your avatar is aces! Love it. I'm knitting a scarf in those exact colors for my friend. ^_^V
Erin Sarah they already announced that they're coming to West End and they'll be doing Asian shows too.
I hope it comes to California. I want to see it so bad!
Erin Sarah it's coming in a US tour this year, so a west end tour is not far behind.
Dmitri and Anastasia in this broadway are so good looking!!
Words can't describe how much i love these songs and the movie! ❤️
I am obsessed with the red dress and the blue one. Absolutly stunning
RIP in the dark of the night :(
It’s hinted in the show

FuddyduddyBella yes...
He does it a lot 🤣
Why I'm seeing this only now?! I HAVE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK! So beautiful
The set looks absolutely amazing 😍😍😍
Wow, this looks great!
Although, I have to say, is anyone else sad Rasputin isn't in the show? Not the goofy "I'm a corpse falling apart" Rasputin, but Rasputin in general? He's one of the most infamous figures in Russian history and was/is often blamed as one of the key aspects of the royal family's downfall. To not have him in the show seems weird. Imagine what an awesome song they could've given him as he lives his double life of "holy man" and power-hungry imp who could be found at the local brothel down the road. Hell, his death scene alone screams to be a musical number: He was poisoned, shot, stabbed, beaten, thrown into an icy river, and what killed him? Exposure to the elements because he CLAWED HIS WAY BACK ONSHORE. O_O
Im a little upset that "In The Dark Of The Night" wont be in there. That was one of the best songs
I know, right?! I love that song! And if they wanted to change it to make it more adult--that is, to not have Rasputin be childishly explained away as a Faustian character--they could tweak the lyrics a bit to suit that. It might even make it more chilling than the original. Imagine him singing a lullaby version of it to Alexei (Anastasia's brother, who Rasputin supposedly healed) and then the minute he leaves the palace, there's a carnival-like, twisted take on the song as Rasputin walks the streets looking for all the fun a holy man shouldn't. Oh, my gods, that would be awesome!
TheaterRaven I am. I agree with your comment fully. Also, I wanted "In The Dark Of The Night"!
I don't know... I saw this musical and I loved the character of Gleb. (More accurately, I loved to hate him.) I thought he brought more power and command as a villain than the character of Rasputin. I loved the fact that the storyline was more authentic and historically accurate and considering Rasputin died before the Romanovs were killed, it would have been hard to fit that in and keep it as historically accurate as they did. Also, it being an adaptation of the 1997 film AND the film from the 50s could have explained the villain switch.
Hannah, ah, you're right. Rasputin did die before the Romanovs, so it would be hard to fit him into the stage show of "Anastasia".
But that just leaves one logical solution: Rasputin needs HIS OWN musical.
Seriously, his life was so messed up it would make for a deliciously dark musical, right up there with the likes of "Sweeney Todd", "The Phantom of the Opera", and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame".

YAAAAAS RAMIN KARIMLOO!!!!!!
YASSSSS RAMIN!!
yulisa mendoza I SCREAMED
Goosebumps everywhere
I saw the play, and it was fantastic! My favorite song was, needless to say, every song with Ramin in it.
MY PRAYERS HAVE COME TRUE
Got chills several times. The actress who plays Anastasia is phenomenal and this production looks amazing!
my close friend did wardrobe for this show when it first started in hartford. so happy for everyone involved!!! its well deserved!
this was the first Broadway show I ever went to!! I am so glad too!!
Party Poison was it good :)
Brittany Weaver yes! I loved every part of it!!
Party Poison I have a question is the guy that lifts anya's chin the bad guy :)
+Brittany Weaver Yes. His name is Gleb, a Russian revolution official, played by RAMIN FREAKING KARIMLOO YAS
I just saw it last night and good gracious they all did amazing and it was my first broadway show too!!!! When she had to use the Dimitri's briefcase as a stepping stool to kiss him i almost died of the cuteness CHRISTY AND DEREK AHHH
AHHHHH This used to be !my favorite movie. I would watch it on repeat. I NEED TO SEE THIS!
This was my absolute favorite movie when I was a kid, and now this Christmas I get to go see it on broadway. Honestly such a dream come true
I went to see this roughly 2 days after it came out, the show was magnificent. The acting, that nostalgic feel, the set transitions, the songs. I know they didnt have Rasputin but somehow it made it much better. Definitely gets a good word from me :D
This proves it can be professionally filmed 👏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😭❤️
masterpiece!!!!!!!!!perfection!!!!!
I work as a volunteer at Cleveland Playhouse Square. Was assigned to work Anastasia. After the show I was so impressed I voluntarily signed up again to work a second night. It was even better the second night. I then purchased expensive balcony seats for my wife and I for the closing night and thoroughly enjoyed it for the third and final time. A wonderful production.
RAMIN!!!
Michael Castanaga RAMIN RAMIN RAMIN
Michael Castanaga DUDE SAME
I KNOW RIGHT 😍😍😍
who is ramin playing? bad guy?
Michael Castanaga YESSSS
Bring this show back
I need a live action of this movie 😭 I loved the animated one so much
It's Rasputin the only dislike because he was cut from the musical. But other than that i am so excited to see this show but I'm torn between seeing this and the woman i have admired for years, Patti LuPone in Warpaint. If any of you guys know which one is a better choice please reply to me.
Anthony Islam Anastasia will be really hard (and really expensive) to get tickets for, especially because theatre awards season is coming up and the Tony nominations will be announced within the next couple weeks. War Paint will certainly be easier to see. Having only seen Anastasia, I can't tell you anything about the quality of the show itself, but I saw Anastasia in previews and it was very good. Frankly, I didn't miss Rasputin. They acknowledge the political situation with the Bolsheviks without going into it too heavily. No more prancing bugs either. Just Ramin lookin' fine as ever as an evil communist.
Anthony Islam I was lucky enough to see both. If I'm being honest, War Paint was kind of boring. I often found myself daydreaming during the musical. I made the mistake once of going to a musical because it had a Broadway star I loved (Kristin Chenoweth in On the 21st Century) and the musical was yet again sooooo bad. While a musical needs a charismatic lead, if the content itself isn't good then it's pointless to have the phenomenal lead. That happened with those two musicals. Patti Lupone was amazing as always. However, to me, it wasn't worth it. I would have rather gone to see Dear Evan Hansen because it seems like a really good show and unlike War Paint the actors AND the content/songs are receiving good reviews too. I made the mistake of choosing the show with the big star. I'd recommend you don't do that. Anastasia was one I really loved because I love that movie, but it was also a really good musical. It feels as if you stepped into the old animated movie but I feel as if they added more depth to the characters.
Anthony Islam I've only seen Anastasia, which was phenomenal in EVERY way. Actors, singing, music, set, costumes... they definitely added meaningful content and changes that give context. I absolutely loved it, and was lucky enough to meet Ramin at the stage door. I would highly recommend seeing it!
lru ...there isn't
lru I think it's probably more focused on the true story (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
it looks dreamy... I LOVE IT
I loved the movie and the songs and I wish I get the chance to witness this someday
Ok so I am a huge fan of Ramin Karimloo and I had no idea he was in this. I passed by the theater this plays at several times during my trip to NYC about 3 weeks ago. I didn't know that I could've been standing outside that theater while Ramin could've been in there rehearsing. Omg
I would LOVE too see this new Broadway Musical!
Even though the royal gown, in the movie, is yellow, the red dress looks BEAUTIFUL!
And whoever does the roll of Dimitri has the great hair!
if this doesnt come to australia im protesting
Belle i will join you in that. it needs to come here
Belle it is! It's gonna be touring
I'll come too! 😉
knowing my luck it will but as always will skip Adelaide, I'm still waiting on the lion King to do Adelaide
ella-louise k I'll protest tooo!
I had the opportunity to go and see it on Broadway, it is worth every second and every penny!!
Ramin is so great!
This doesn’t do the show justice. It is beyond worthy of words. Watched it recently in newyork plannin I’m seeing it in Chicago and grand rapids next year!
I love Anastasia since I was a kid. I love the songs, the characters, the places, the histories, and the meaning behind it. I was super thrilled knowing that there will be an Anastasia Musical in Broadway.
I'm very glad they chose the right person to play the characters in Anastasia. Anya looks strong, independent, courageous, yet innocent. Dimitri looks very pleasing, he's super flirtatious, sometimes sneaky, but sometimes, shy.
Im amazed of how beautiful Anya is!
I'm also glad the characters sing very well. They poured their heart to the song when singing it.
I hope the new songs they add will put up beautifully with the musical.
I also hope they will stick closely to the original Anastasia movie. Or else it will be such a disappointment.
I literally cried like a baby, it was beautiful and nostalgic. One of my favorite childhood movies.
WHY DID I SKIP THROUGH THIS MUSICAL FOR THREE FRICKEN YEARS-
Shukketsu sad it closed last year :(
this has to be my favorite musical ever. i saw it the day before opening night in previews and im going again in july. beautifully acted and orchestrated. plus the costumes and staging is just amazing!
I WISH I LIVED IN NY SO BADLY
Best Musical EVERY!! I saw it and haven't been able to stop playing the album
i dont like how these promotional/ teaser videos suggest that there is a professionally filmed tape of the production thats being kept from us
Anastasia has been my favorite movie since the dawn of time. It has inspired me in a multitude of ways and has driven my fascination with imperial Russia, the Romanov family, and much more. Now that I'm older, it remains my favorite. Broadway is something I adore, and when I heard about this musical, I nearly fainted. For my birthday this year, I have asked to come see the show live. It's a dream of mine to see a show on broadway, and I can't imagine a better one to see than the story that captivated me as a child-and even today as a young adult of 15-coming to life on stage. Brilliant.
out of all the costumes, who knew i’d love the white tank top on derek the best
This looks spectacular!! I loved Anastasia as a kid and now it’s on broadway!! It’s a dream come true!!! Can’t wait until it’s on tour!
0:44 RAMIN THIS IS NOT SIERRA! HOW DAREEEE YOU MAKE THAT MOVE.
WOW!!! Anastasia was my favorite princess movie as a child!!1 I wish I could be part of this amazing broadway show!!!
Is it possible that they stream this beautiful broadway musical while we're in quarantine right now. PLEASEEEEEE
Anastasia is one of my favorite movies and the fact that it's been turned into a Broadway musical is so exciting, I can already tell i'm going to love it a lot❤️
RAMIN

I'm sO FRICKIN EXCITED
I have literally waited for this since 1997 and I was finally able to buy tickets for this weekend. Dream come true!!!~
I’m so glad they didn’t use the magic aspect from the movie I love the movie but I think this is more interesting
God bless them for putting ballet into it and the two best songs from the movie. Here for it. Wish I could see it.
The guy that plays Dimitri is cute
AHHHH I SAW THIS CAST IN NEW YORK CITY ON BROADWAY FOR THIS SHOW IN JUNE AND JUST WATCHING THIS VIDEO BRINGS BACK ALL OF THE MEMORIES!!
Shame this is closing. Beautiful masterpiece

SAVE ME FROM THIS PIT OF EMOTIONS.
This is a musical I'd KILL to be in ♥️♥️♥️
I'm so excited for this! even though I won't be able to see it, Anastasia is one of my favorites and has been for years and I think it will be a beautiful broadway show
PLEASE MAKE THIS INTO A DVD OR I WILL DIE CRYING
This looks absolutely beautiful!
Who's the woman playing Anastasia?
Christy Altomare :)
Christy Altomare, understudy 1 Kathryn Boswell, 2 Molly Rushing
This is so beautiful, I teared up. Maybe because it's so well done and touching, or because I know that as a Central European I'll never get a chance to see it. The mucis is fantastic, the costumes are amazing, the whole composition is simply stunning! Okay, now I'm crying...
HOLY SHIT THIS GIVES ME THE GOOSEBUMPS IM IN TEARS I LOVE THE ORIGINAL MOVIE SO MUCH AHHHHH ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎
anastasia was the first movie i fell in love with (and remember watching) im so happy it's finally going to be a musical and i hope i get to see it! it looks amazing
Hope they fix that one line in the villains son...... and the ending; Wasn't that kind of abrupt?
The costumes look gorgeous
Is Ramin playing the bad guy????
Yup!
I have never been this hyped for a musical before. So excited!

My mom and i have been waiting my whole life for this to be a broadway show! Its like a dream come true! So exciting :)
Guys come on let’s be real. The moment you saw Ramin on stage you hit that like button!
Saw it on Friday night and it was beyond my expectations! The show was amazing ❤
1:26 Ughhhhh, show us the actual kiss! Dmitry's so hot, I'm dying over here 💔
I literally got chills. Anastasia is one of my favourite movies and this, this my dear people, is amazing.
me: *sees Ramin*
me: *frenzied clicking*
can I just say the costumes, choreography, music, and set design were just phenomenal, what a great musical!!
This show actually takes a more historic look on the story of Anastasia, it's not EXACTLY like the movie, I know a lot of people go to see it expecting the movie, it's a great show I personally liked it, a lot people I know went in expecting it to be EXACTLY like the historic side with just the songs from the movie, so just don't expect anything from it, just expect that it'll be good and stuff
Yes! Thank you! I know Rasputin is a loved villain in the movie, but he was a good guy in real life, and was a behind the scenes character then! So to be historically accurate, he would not be in this broadway! (Since that is one of the biggest issues I see people having.)
ok so why did they steal the set design, clothing and im guessing the songs from the animated movie(1997 film) if they thought the story was bad. It was never a animated documentary.
animem54; to still make it relatable. It is BASED off the movie, but just given a historical TWIST. It's a merging of what they created for the film and what really happened, so the creaters didn't "STEAL" anything.
Amanda Baxley bull. They just wanted to add more politics (even dead politics) to a great story about finding her home and family. What's unrelatable about wanting family? Thanks for the reply tho.
One word: chills. I am so excited!
AHHHHH
Absolutely beautiful live!!
RAMIN RAMIN RAMIN!!!!!!!!!!!
Two more sleeps and I will see it!!!! Cannot contain myself I am so excited! I adored this movie as a kid!
