    This is a frustrating guitar because it's so close to being good but it has a huge flaw. While not fatal, it is shocking to find on a guitar of this level and price point. The RG line of guitars are made for fast and technical playing, so something that is as much of a hindrance as misaligned strings is unacceptable to find on the highest tier of the Prestige level guitars.
    The materials themselves are high quality. The wood is resonant, the neck is nicely finished and highly playable, the frets are level, and the fingerboard is smooth. The bridge holds its tuning. Everything works as expected.
    Tonally my ears have moved on from the EMG sound and have become more acclimated to more modern sounds. I’ve been using more modern sounding pickups to great effect in my mixes. For more traditional passive pickups, I have alternate presets I’ve made to make those sound good too. So now EMG pickups to me are in this weird middle where they’re not modern and clear sounding like Fishmans are, and they are not as reactive to playing and dynamic as passives. They’re certainly usable and there are many examples of good tones with them given how long they’ve been around, but for my uses they’re now out of place.
    Overall if you’re looking for an EMG loaded shred machine with good tone, and you can ensure that you’ll find a good one, this guitar is perfect. All the prestiges in this price point are going to be excellent and will beat out other guitars that cost twice to three times as much. However given the track record of Prestige guitars I’ve bought, you will need to make sure you won’t be getting one with any defects.

    I was lucky I guess... found an amazing and flawless one of these.. sounds plays and feels incredible, had to have it. Super resonant, bar flutters just right, everything is aligned (no high -e issues whatsoever) All frets perfect... yep... should be the norm not the exception... but yes quality can vary, )looking at you Gibson!) but, even with Ibanez apparently.... Luckily I got a great one.

      Glad you got a good one! It really is the ideal versatile guitar. I hear you about Gibson too, I briefly had a les paul modern and while it looked and sounded great, the pots failed one by one within days

    For the issue with high E too close to the fretboard edge, have you tried reseating the neck? I’ve had a couple RGs with this issue and have found unscrewing and re-screwing the neck with it angled fixed my problem

    • @HighZ
      @HighZ  3 месяца назад +2

      Yep, since making this video I've tried that. It worked in that is more bearable to play but the issue is still there. Especially when playing with adrenaline or nerves it's still easier to accide tally pull the string off the side compared to my other guitars

    Peak Ibanez Prestige was back in 2014....I think the RG655 was among the last Prestige guitars that were solid quality and no frills and problems. The Prestige line from 2006-2011 was amazing in my view.

    • @HighZ
      @HighZ  6 месяцев назад

      I'm inclined to agree in that my first prestige was a 2013 RG655 in galaxy black. Even though the fret material wasn't the highest quality, it's held up perfectly and the only guitar I have that comes close to it in terms of how easy it is to setup is my J Custom. Modern prestiges now have better features but you have to get lucky to find a good one

    I have RG5320C-DFM, almost the same. My main concern for it is weight, around 4 kg, usually RGs are slightly more than 3. I have AirNorton/ToneZone+coilTap. It's better than active in a way, that you can rise/lower action to find a good (optimal) sound, so i did (approx. "decked" and ±1.5 screwdriver turns to top). At some moment i hated it, but after setting really good PU action, i'm quite happy with SQ. As for high E, i thing it's on all modern Ibanezes, i had a few + played in local shops, the same. Because of weight, i'm planning to change strap-buttons to locking with a long screws, i just don't feel confident with stock on exactly mine guitar. From positive i would say design/shape, build quality, materials, components. Do we need more? Ok hard case, multitool and we've got them:) As for locking tuners, yes, better to have them. How to transform cons in to pros? We can lower our tuning with non-locked tuners:)

      @@andreyvanakoff9412 you're right, pickup height can make a big difference. I had the strap buttons come out of an S470 I used to play shows with a lot. I was able to keep the same screw by using wood glue to put toothpicks into the hole and then putting the screw back. But strap locks are a good idea too. I hope it works!

      @@HighZ if guitar was not 2.5k$ i would fix it quickly with a glue:) I've bought Schallers m-sized, they will work:) Original screws are 3.5mm on 18mm, S-Locks M are 4mm on 22mm.

    I am actually about to buy this..... In Deep Green Forest colour. I checked the High E, and it was alright. Weights exactly 3900 with tremolo bar. A bit heavy but, Can't do anything about it :D. I liked it a lot... I have PIA as well, but I have one more guitar chance I could buy, I thought this would be again good choice... Loved overall quality. They did a small discount it's like 1800 Euro now. How do you get so many guitars to review?

    • @HighZ
      @HighZ  24 дня назад +1

      It's a great guitar! This would have been my main guitar if it wasn't for the high e issue as the guitar was very playable, sounded good, and it has a useful pickup combination. I've bought these guitars over time because I don't have children or go on vacation

    How did you block the trem??

    • @HighZ
      @HighZ  9 месяцев назад +1

      I have a cut little block of wood and a tremol-no on this guitar. But on others I taped together a bunch of guitar picks and stuck them onto either side of the trem block inside and it works perfectly with the right widths of picks

    I will never understand why the prestige models don’t have locking tuners but the premium models do. ( I also have that 5320 RG)

    • @HighZ
      @HighZ  10 месяцев назад +2

      Right? It's the same effort to install either tuner so it makes no sense at all. Especially since a floating trem requires you to work the tuners way more before you lock the nut. Meanwhile the premium models rock. I have a S1070PBZ and its 400mm radius plus 18-20mm thickness make it more comfortable to play! Unfortunately the lower horn does get in the way of top fret access and its truss rod is questionable

    • @iloveitall
      @iloveitall 9 месяцев назад

      And what exactly is the benefit of locking tuners on a nutlocking guitar?

    • @HighZ
      @HighZ  9 месяцев назад +2

      @iloveitall great question. Locking tuners prevent the string from slipping in the post, which cuts down the amount of re-tuning you have to do when the nut is unlocked. Especially when string changing. While it's possible to wrap the string around the post in a way to reduce string slipping, the locking mechanism is still the best insurance

    • @iloveitall

      Now I see. Ok, that is a point.
      Besides that I can't find any fault with your presentation. I enjoyed it a lot.
      Only thing is this: Is it really the bridge routing? I don't think so.
      I had a lot of RGs with the same issue and all of them got solved by aligning the neck. Workers might have been placing the neck not 100% straight. Just loosen the screws a lil bit and push the neck slightly to the side.@@HighZ
