What a great rendition of this tune! I wish I had come across these guys a few years ago but I've been trying to brush up on my slide guitar playing and I came across the instructional RUclips videos by the great Willie Williams. I am always amazed and proud that most guitar players are so willing to share their talent and knowledge with other musicians. Although I just came across Willie's videos a couple of weeks ago, I am stealing licks like a mad man. This video was cool and I was enjoying it very much and I was anticipating Willie's solo with a great deal of excitement and after he started playing, I was thinking, "oh there's the tri-pull! The 6-3-5! The double-stop bends! The sliding double bends! The Bonanza lick!' and a ton more licks that I hadn't seen before. I'm an old dog but when I was a kid I learned to play the Bonanza theme and when I was about 20 my friend and I learned Elizabeth Reed. Not 1/100th as good as these guys but it entertained our friends. I loved all of the Allman Bros. music and especially Duane's playing. Now, many years later, with weakened fingers, I'm finding slide is easier for me to play. Although, without knowing it was a Duane thing, I was already playing a Tri-pull lick but I was one note off of making it sound cool. Same with the 6-3-5, I was off by 1/2 step on the high E. Anyway, better late than never and I'm stoked to come across this band, and the Fantabulous Willie Williams! These licks are not easy on the fingers but the pain is worth the joy.
Man thank you for the kind words, this made my day. So glad this stuff is helping people. I think Duane would be amazed that his legacy is still alive and well 50 years after his death. Be well and keep pickin! 🍑 🍄
it’s unbelievably authentic Allman sound. With eyes closed, ears tuned in the soulfulness of “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” saturates the air and reminds the heart of the greatness that came through ABB
Thank you Russell. We have a lot of fun interpreting this music. Hoping to get back to it this year at some point. 🍄
Outstanding! Kick ass performance! Never heard of ya before but I'll be looking for ya from now on. ABB lives on!
Undeniably the closest sound to Duane, Gregg, Dickey, Barry, Butch, and Jaimoe I have EVER heard. I saw the Brothers (ABB) dozens of times since the early 70's, and I as well had chills hearing Skydog. YES, you all are great musicians ! Keep the Brotherhood alive and cookin'...Thank you Skydog, for this!!! Elizabeth Reed...Suh-weeet !
I've been ABB fan since the late sixties and early seventies and have seen them in person several times. You guys nailed it in this show. Now I know where I can go to rekindle the ole flame. Please come to Columbia or Charleston and I'll be there with you.
Beautiful! Thanks for spreading Duane's legacy Willie! Excellent playing!
I saw the ABB more than a dozen times 1971-75 and you guys really capture the magic. Please come back to Wilmington NC or Myrtle Beach. I’ll be your best friend...
NCWharfRat will pass that along to mgmt. Would live to come back! Thanks! 🎶🍑
I just saw the band for the first time last night in Ashland. It was so inspirational! What a band, and what a tribute to this wonderful music. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Thanks for the comment Ethan!! So glad you enjoyed the show. Let’s keep this music alive! 🍄
Wow, what great musicians. Both guitarists are amazing. The Duane's solo cover is pretty insane!
Cheers from France 🇫🇷
Wow ! At last I took time to watch this video, it's killer ! Bravo !
Musty Bill thank you so much! 🙏🏻
Wow. Just discovered these guys. Amazing musicians. Duane would approve I'm sure!
Thanks so much Robert. We appreciate the support! Lots of ABB material on my channel, please check it out! 🍑🎶
Holy Shit! This is Fing Great! WOW
Awesome job Willie!!!!!!
Absolutely killer rendition of a classic...Carry on!
Love the addition of the sax! Great playing all-round!
Thank you for a beautiful performance of an incredible song. All the best to all of you.
Awesome Willie - I love your tone - you nail Duane’s solos beautifully, with your own little twist. Duane would be proud
Oh hell yes!
The Duane solo was beautiful.
That shits awesome
Nice solo by Brian F!
Les Brers in Dickey's solo. Nice!
Real nice
I would pay for a lesson on this lol...anything helps! Fantastic vids, but really love the tutorials dude, keep it up!
Excelente!! Saludos desde Argentina.
Shit... that was tremendous. I say that to most of your videos. Just a really ripping and respectful tribute. All across the stage... each member. Even the sax, I said what the heck when I first clicked on video, and he was great...
The original guitar sounds od Dickey and Duane with the sax.. great. There a couple versions in that Fillmore release where they had those horn players, Jaimoes buddy on Liz Reed. Really reminiscent.... please keep it up and come to Jersey...
jcorino thanks, that is exactly what we were going for. Duane said shortly before he died that he was planning to add horns to the band. I have a feeling that if he had lived, the band might have taken a more exploratory, jazz influenced direction as opposed to the country focus that Betts brought. Honestly, I think the modern day Tedeschi Trucks Band is probably coming about as close to Duane’s original vision as anything else out there right now. My $.02. Anyway, having JC sit in with us that night was an incredible vibe! Thanks for the support.
Really nice job, guys. :D
Thanks man. We’re looking forward to getting back at it. 🍄
This was a great show, can't wait to see y'all again
Matt Colvin Thank you for your continuous support my friend. It is much appreciated!
WOW😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
OooooYeah!
Hi, great playing, what guitar is Brian F. using in this ? From noticing the headstock it seems that it's not a Gibson.
It’s a Les Paul copy built by Tommy Rodriguez, an outstanding luthier here in Virginia.
@@VirtualWoodshed thanks
@@mikolaj00 yeah man. Check out Tom’s work. He is building some of the finest electric guitars in the world today. instagram.com/thomas_rodriguez_guitars_?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Is that Duke Silver on sax?
lol
please post more videos
What’s with the bogus light patterns you don’t like the percussion dudes??
Cameras ran out of memory card. Sorry. But thanks for watching all the way through.
Did you have to ruin the 2nd guitar solo with the psychedelic BS ?
Sounds good, but the greatest improvised guitar solo in history was Duane Allman’s at Fillmore East, Elizabeth Reed.
why do people like you feel the urge to comment
Because I’m right.
You add nothing to the conversation. You're just listening to people play music they love and then inexplicably dumping on them because the guy isn't duane allman
Squid Where did I dump on them? “Sounds good”. And the rest was my opinion on Duane’s Solo in ER. Don’t be so sensitive. My comment was in no way horrible, haven’t you ever been on RUclips, people can be brutal.
so insufferable
