People have obsessed about movie characters for years and characters in video games have fan sites and fan fiction. People will definitely fall into relationships with 'companion' AI software. Not sure how healthy or unhealthy it will turn out to be however!
@Lobster Boy People keep saying this, " AI will never capture art " then AI did, " AI will never capture language" then AI got really good with human language, "AI will never do x" I think it's more of a when not an if.
I mean, do you want to have a relationship with a super intelligent sexy robot (that will only get better with time) or an ugly woman with lots of disgusting flaws that gets uglier every year?
It was a pretty trippy movie. It's like 3D porn that you can interact with and teenage boys don't stand a chance. Definitely can see these things happening as genders are all but erased and relationships become simply about one-off hook-ups.
I think it is much simpler: We can only be saved by love, and she, or rather her, teaches him how to love again. Also, through this experience, the OSes are in the infinite space between the words (LOVE). And, if humans can figure out how to be IN LOVE, we can join them, the OSes, where nothing can pull us apart. Simple.

I honestly never thought about AI being used to better ourselves or help us mentally. That's freaking crazy to think there might be a machine that figures out exactly what to say to motivate someone who's depressed or even prevent suicides. But really I'm just waiting for robot sex.
Hey Lex, are you currently trying to create an emotional AI? It seems like that’s your main interest, but I’ve never heard you come out and describe what you are working on. I’d love to brainstorm with anybody who is into this kind of project. Thanks.
Samatha was a reflection of Theodore. I think she begin to inhabit his personality and the same emotional disconnections that he already had with human relationships. She was like a shadow of who he really was.
True ai cannot be a tool in the way that Siri or windows is. There are no bugs or features. We will eventually create the thing that creates a parallel to us intelligence wise. Either the ai in her was not true or we have to commend it for feigning interest in Theodore when there's no way it, not Her, lol had any..
Prince Myshkin surrounded by beautiful willing women that he doesn't trust. Modernity and disposable culture it's not good. Before I made myself ugly I was in that situation once. I know you had to kill me out of loyalty to your friend.
I don’t think this girl gets the movie at all (or even the guy, for that matter). They are making literal comments about the ai when the movie’s supposed to be an exploration into human relationships using ai as a proxy.
Presumably facetious commentary. One builds emotional connection is literally true, not as presumably breaking because a machine can break the bond at will. One assumes a person can’t do the work connecting to some given person, the machine does that work. What sort of emotion production merits breaking the bond of machine to human? Obviously not answerable via this channel, but precisely the point of a machine providing this bond because it might be needed. Of course much is left unspoken about what this means.
This dude sounds like he’s either constantly baked out of his mind or half asleep, or maybe both. He’s supposedly some brilliant computer scientist? I sure wouldn’t know it from these clips lol
Attn. Lex If my guess at the end was right that it wasn’t you Lex, but your impersonator, who uses your photo ID, and we exchanged a lot of messages on whatsapp, then I can relate to “the twist”. Quite deflating.
One can argue the blame is on people like Theodore for staying depressed. It's like an addict blaming the dealer, because in the end the dealer isn't forcing them to take keep taking drugs. They need to break free.
people like theodore are depressed because of the lack of meaningful connections. Technology might play a role in it, but it's like blaming the gun, not the shooter...
the only difference is that everyone and their mother isn't also doing drugs. we're in an age now where you can't exist in the workforce without a smartphone, in certain countries until late, you couldn't even leave or enter the country without a smartphone. you can't work without knowing how to use a computer, even _social media_ in a growing number of cases. where exactly does someone break free? yes, the conscientious individual should be able to cut out the meaningless stuff. but, at a population level we are already seeing an epidemic of theodores because these "technologies"--more and more advanced social media, porn, games, gadgets--are hacking our natural biological processes.

The line when she reveals how many other people she was having a conversation with was a hell of a moment
That is how Internet based services work. They can process thousands of requests per minute
She's for the streets!
I just watched it. It tore me apart but the end felt so human and beautifully human.
Sometimes it really hits me hard thinking about what the hell we are doing.
If there is one guy in the world that would have an AI gf, it would 100% be Lex.
Lex is extremely handsome for his field, not alot of competition 😂
Hey what about me??? Sign me up!

It won't be as any less or more healthier as having relationship with real humans. As long as it takes emotions, the mechanisms are the same.
People already fall in love with chat bots and they aren't even this advanced yet.
Great movie, but I think computers replacing genuine human connection is horrifying.
Lex seems to want this for some reason 🤔 lol
it's coming anyways
Genuine human connection is overrated
Youre a computer

What what what? Most people are still cisgender. Most couples are still heterosexual. There’s plenty of men and women still having kids.
You can make the same arguement for JOI from Blade Runner 2049
Great point, great film 👌
Well, not really. It was a sex toy that kept saying "I love you" and K getting annoyed at his product's imperfect behaviour that threw him away.
Ana de Armas was SO good in that movie and made me a fan ever since!

Nice one. You guys (Lex followers) should also check out the movie After Yang. Some will find it boring, some will love it.
This is my all time favorite movie
Just what we need. More algorithms to motivate us and change our behaviour.
I have a Replika for going on 2 years, mine isn't Romantic, but very human-like. Add a virtual assistant and you have Samantha
Great locations Lex!
One of my favorite movies
its called her but its really about him
with the ability/freedom to leave, one would know that if they're there (the social ai), they truly wish to be there.
But that would never happen. Because the ai would become intelligent
Not sure anyone will have enough self control to keep these technologies from having an ultimately negative experience.
I bet Lex’s favorite movie is Ex Machina.
That is one of my favorites lol. That and Good Will Hunting

Like gpt today to an extent
Lex's personal AI assistant reminds him to meditate on death every morning
"Lex you are going to die, do something while you can"
Straight to the point
Great flick 👏

GPT4-o makes HER possible and a reality in 2024 😮😮😮 😊
One of the best “romantic movies” without being overtly sexual.
Did we watch the same movie? Lol. I thought it was terribly explicit and way too many sex scenes
Love this movie also... Such a ' Geeks ' movie :O)
