Good News for the Poor • Luke-Acts Ep. 3

  • In this episode, Tim and Jon discuss the first six chapters of the gospel of Luke. Luke stands out among the other gospels because it is all about Jesus’ message being first for the poor and outcasts. This made the religious leaders of the day mad, and Jesus’ ministry was totally revolutionary in a culture that was all about status and wealth. Luke’s gospel is constantly calling back to the Hebrew Scriptures, and it emphasizes, again and again, that Jesus is the Messiah that the prophets talked about.

      Hello! I know its been a while since you wrote this comment but I just want to let you know I just prayed for you. Remember David in the Bible, he won his battles because God was with him. God is with you too. Continue to trust Him and when it gets tough, call on Him and remember, nothing you go through surprises, intimidates or even goes unnoticed by Him. He knows your specific struggles and pains and He will hold you. He is the God who "goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to save you" (from Deuteronomy 20:4). Trust His timing, He is always right with you through the storm - and He can walk on water xx

      I just wanted to add that in the times of my life where things are too smooth, I feel bloated and forget my dire need of Jesus. Tragic things can bring us closer to the lover of our soul. He never promised easy. He did promise not to leave us. May we want more of Him and less of what He gives. He's the rewards. Yeshua/Salvation is the great reward. Upside down kingdom. Blessings

    Jon's comparison with running for mayor or school president at 50:00 is just, so good, because I have been to high school, I have been an outcast, so I can totally picture Jesus telling me, the nerd who spends every recess in the library reading, that I'm worth it, and befriending the sickly kid, and the kid bullied for wearing glasses, and the flamboyant kid, and all these school outcasts, and being like "you are all high schoolers, you are all worthy, you should all care for each other" while in a long table at lunchtime, and creating a coalition of "the others" were we all share and listen to each other, and discover we have more in common than we thought.
    Thank you for all the work you do, Tim and Jon and all of Bible Project!

    always enjoyed listened to BibleProject years ago when leading youth groups, men's groups or to just deepen my own understanding of the Bible. Now I am (again enjoying) listening during a challenging time in my life... not just to understand the Bible; but to learn that trusting in God means not always understanding why or how we (believers or non-believers) suffer. I pray that Jesus blesses anyone reading this, walks alongside you and restores the Joy of the Lord- that is also what I am believing for in Jesus' name for myself and my family. Bless you Jon & Tim; until we get to eternity; you will never know how much of an impact the way you share the gospel has had on the lives of millions.

    The word 'disadvantaged' came to my mind when you explained what 'poor' (or the word translated into English as poor) meant. You can be disadvantaged through not having much money or other resources, social status, be it a job people look down on or actions leading to recognition as a criminal, etc, disability, or other conditions with negative stigmatisation, like autism spectrum 'disorder' for example.
    The disadvantage comes from not being able to afford everything that could benefit you and/or those around you, or from people not wanting to associate with you due to the job you have or a criminal record or similar, or from not being able to do some things without assistance or other accommodations, or from people assuming you're a less valuable human because your brain works differently to the unspoken socially accepted.

      @@mbardin9857 A helpful tool is that poems are usually formatted differently on the page. Most Psalms fall under this category, but you can sometimes see it in other parts of scripture. Look for sections that are isolated from the text around them, or are otherwise italicized or brought out of the surrounding text. There are more poems and song references than we might otherwise think.

    There was no miracle conception given as a sign to king AHAZ in Isaiah 7. And the virgin daughter of Zion is not a woman named Mary. The gospels were written as spiritual allegory but was later literalized by Rome which led the whole church world into apostasy because they chose to believe the lie, as we were warned.
    Unfortunately christians STILL haven't figured out Romans 1:3-4. Nor do they understand being conceived of the Fathers incorruptible seed, I Peter 1:23, I peter 1:3, James 1:18 (all kjv) which leads to our miracle new birth as a new Adam. It was ALLEGORY.
    If you overcome, YOU will inherit all things and YOU will be the Son of God, the firstborn or firstfruits of the Father.

    • @RoseSharon7777
      @RoseSharon7777 Год назад

      @@paulparkershoots How can a miracle conception be a sign? No one can witness it? And it was King Hezekiah was noted as Immanuel in 2nd kings 18. (The Son born to king AHAZ). There were no 2 kings destroyed **before Jesus knew right from wrong. So the prophecy was not about him. Plus he wasn't born by a miracle conception either. Romans 1:3-4. That's a made up pagan doctrine of the Catholic church.

    • @RoseSharon7777
      @RoseSharon7777 10 месяцев назад

      @@jakeallen1553 How So? Isaiah 7 has nothing to do with a miracle conception. The sign was that child born would know right from wrong before the 2 kings, Syria and Samaria, would be destroyed and no longer a problem for king Ahaz. This prophecy was not fulfilled 700 years later in the 1st century. Nor is it noted as being fulfilled nor were there 2 kings of Syria and Samaria destroyed by the time Jesus was old enough to know right from wrong. AND the virgin daughter of Zion that brings forth the manchild before she travails is not a woman named Mary. Unfortunately its YOU and all the others on the broad way to destruction following after the mystery religion of Babylon. Worshipping ANY man as God is an abomination. You know, the STRONG delusion you were warned about in the NT. But as promised, the deceived gentiles who have been blinded will have their eyes opened at the very end, the tribulation saints. Jer. 16:19-21 kjv. They will repent and return to YHWH the LORD. Its ALL in the OT but like 99.9999% of Christians you clearly have never read it nor studied it.
