We don't have a lot of space for food storage, so I started stacking Costco storage bins (black with yellow lids) under the stairs. Each one contains a week's worth of food for my family of 5. I include a notecard with the list of meals that i can make with the contents of each bin. Then I mark the outside of the bin with the week it corresponds to. I then keep a spreadsheet of all the bins and their contents so I know what's in each one. This has really helped me to be organized in a smaller space.
Prayers for their safety. We appreciate them all. It's been horrendous with all the damage. We North and South Carolinians are so grateful for all the help.
sadly, he will be heading back to FL end of the week. In 2004 we had 4 hurricanes in one month.. This year, we had a torrential rain..no wind, Then Debbie dropped another 17 inches on us, Helena "only" dropped 15...and now Milton is heading in. No offence to Tampa...but its really their turn...Sarasota county just cant take it. All of the keys are still underwater, all of the snowbirds want to head back soon., and tourist season is very close. They ARE the economy in southwest FL
Wonderful advice to follow. As a retired Nurse I would also suggest getting some extra Isopropyl alcohol, betadine, hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment, tylenol, motrin, benadryl, gauze, some kind of gatorade mix.
I'm learning to can and I love it too! This week I did chicken breast in pints. I also canned ranch beans. Also sausage bean soup. I resent going to work because I can't can that day. 😅
Fill empty laundry soap bottles with water and a little dish soap for cleaning and sanitary needs during an emergency. The large bottles with the spout work great. Can easily wash hands and light dishes. Just set on counter over sink and your ready.
Dollar tree has adult disposable wash clothes. I’ve been picking up a few of them here and there. It will cut down on showers everyday, but it help you feel clean.
Just picked up 15lbs of 97/3 hamburger meat to can. Also, we live in an apartment and were able to store 170 gallons of water and it’s completely out of site, so excited about that.
Having just gotten power back after 9 days, I agree organization is so important. We had most of what we needed, but it was not always easy finding it in the dark by lamplight.
I spent yesterday getting good, heavy locks for my gates, and a neighbor figured put how to keep my heavy metal gates from coming off the hinges. Got more cans of tomatoes on sale (I think I can eat anything as long as there are tomatoes). Early Christmas shopping: new mattress and pillow covers, a new non-stick frying pan, and a middle sized pot for noodles or pasta (from Salvation Army). We received at our local senior food bank corn for polenta, which my mother would make and cover with spaghetti sauce. I used the recipe on the bag and it was fantastic! My neighbor didn't want it, but I got a treasure. Found the company and ordered 10 pounds of it. Got more cat food and litter. Have to check feed for chickens and goats. Have to finish putting together another very heavy duty metal shelving unit and put a pork shoulder in the oven to slow roast. With your help, I think I'm good for QUITE SOME TIME!! Thanks! 😊
Dang, thank you! Gonna get some extra chicken and rabbit feed👍🏻 Odd that I did something similar to you and I bought a small cast iron Dutch oven. Yay on the shelving, well done! If I could make room for another one…..
I got an awesome heavy duty 6 shelf shelving unit from Sam’s for $99. Each shelf had the plastic shelving cover so things don’t get stuck in the holes. Each shelf holds 1000 pounds. They are amazing! Where did you get yours?
Hi Leisa thanks to you I was semi prepared for Helene I’m in North Carolina and I’m adding to my preparedness over the next 30 days even if there is no civil unrest winter is just around the corner
I organized and inventoried my canning pantry yesterday. Um, I might have canned 3x what I promised my husband I would limit myself to! Shh! And I bought a pewpew and freedom seeds for my bday. I started my canning exactly one year ago. Thank you, Leisa, for your wonderful content! We are carnivorish so mostly we have meats, meat soups, and chili, as well as bone broths (turkey, chicken & beef). Thank you so much for your content & for meat based recipes using my canned meats! Hubby has managed a 3 way generator and 5 full bottles of propane.
@@catalhuyuk7 that’s exactly why I bought them. To vote for my rights so that we can keep those rights here in America. Best wishes on receiving your license and your own pew pew!
I have a few the books on your shelf but didn't realize you were an author. If you're ever in the mood, could you do a video on your top 5 or 10 favorite books? Thanks for this series of preparedness. Have a blessed day.
As far as flour and sugar go, after keeping it for years, I realized I’m not going to be baking in any sort of bad situation. While I like to imagine myself baking fresh bread in my sun oven while the world around me crumbles, I know myself better. I’m going to eat a jar of ugly chicken right out of the jar and get on with it, lol! I now keep wheat berries for long term, not emergency, food. Mostly because I really liked cooked wheat berries, but I can also grind them if I absolutely must bake something.
Thank you more than words can express. I will be okay because I have listened to you for years. Nothing is guaranteed but I will be able to weather any situation and I will be helping my elderly next door neighbors in secret. Noone knows what I have for security reasons because I am now 77 years old and alone. put a smile on your face Leisa when things go upside down in Oklahoma because you are the reason three elders will have comfort and provision because I listened to you. Love you
Thats how I plan my beans and rice. 8 cups of each per day for 8 people, plus 8 cups of salsa to season it. That was the easiest new-to-prepping meal I planned my first month. That plus a cup of oatmeal per day per person with brown sugar and powdered milk still make up a huge portion of my emergency food storage. Lots more diversity since then, but it’s the easiest thing to can plus the cheapest thing to stock, plus you don’t have to be a great cook to make it taste edible.
I saw a comment somewhere yesterday that said to add Vaseline to your preps. It can be used as lip balm, put on sores, used as a mechanical lubricant, rust prevention, battery corrosion, bug trap, bug bites, diaper cream, emergency candle, chapped skin. This item was something i didn't think I've ever seen on any prep list but it's so versatile.
Great ideas! I think 6 gallons of water per person per day is best. I've been consumed with the devastation in east TN and western NC. Thankfully, I'm connected with folks in east TN, who are helping out those in need. The govt isn't helping. It's up to "we the people" to save/help the survivors.
@@StephanieJoRountree I know Pinball Preparedness has been helping those in Tennessee because a lot of folks are sending help to NC which is great but there are other areas devastated too.Thank you praying for all affected by Helene.❤️🙏🏻
Dollar tree has quarts of shelf stable milk. It tastes absolutely the same as regular refrigerated milk, approved by my pickiest, I shouldn't say picky... particular eater 🙂
Our Walmarts carry 2 shelf stable qt UHT milks in whole, 2% and fat free options. It is stocked in the hispanic and baking aisles and WIC has begun offering it as an option in some locations.
Leisa, I just received your book, “100 Days to Preparedness” and I am blown away by the level of detail. As a long time preparedness geek, I thought I had a pretty good plan, but your book is making me think about things I had never considered before. Thanks so much!
My thoughts on water for dishwashing... paper plates, cups, plastic spoons, etc. I keep a stash of those items just for that reason. I generally don't use that stuff otherwise. Clothes washing-I have enough for a month that I can hold off on everything from socks, underware, etc. I have plenty of T-shirts and jeans, which is about all I would be wearing if shtf anyway. Now, if I had to vacate, that's another story and I'm working on preparing for that scenario.
That is what I do too.. buy paper bowls and plates in bulk, need to get plastic cutlery. I still have a bunch of disposable cups from our potluck and family reunion this year. And same on the clothes I have steadily been stocking up clothes from the thrift stores to make it last a month extra undies and socks and for each season since I'm in Ohio. Same with sheets and blankets and towels. Anna In Ohio
Right now Florida is waiting for hurricane Milton. It looks like the worse one so far. It’s hard to believe that it’s the 3rd storm so far. My family is mostly on the west side. I’m trying to stay in touch with them. Asking for prayers.
Did our BIG freezer stock up yesterday on beef, pork, bacon etc.. Took me three hours to get it all vaccuum sealed in freezer bags and into freezer. My hubby fishes year round so we have another freezer half full of halibut, salmon, tuna, lingcod, and rock fish. Such a huge prep for us and so grateful for it. Just need to get chicken this week and Im done meat shopping for 6 months. Hopeful for a good hunting season for deer and elk too.
@@jillking-miller4257 that's awesome. So many people talk about full freezers and how they are prepared but then you hear them telling about how they lost it all in a power outage. I've changed the way I shop after a 2 day outage from an unbelievable storm. No backups here sadly. I don't buy much meat, I buy smaller bottles of condiments so less waste if power does go out. I really learned a lot just from those 2 days.
Canned chuck roast today. My checklist is almost complete. I asked relatives in Philadelphia if they were prepared for a difficult time around Election Day, and they were utterly unconcerned. Philly explodes when their sports teams win, so I really don't think November will be business as usual.
I have a daughter who lives in center City ..is an attorney w the city ..and Still won't talk about this ..... facepalm 😞. God help her and her sister who lives in NYC. I told them they should stay at my house election week. They think I'm being alarmist.... 😩
@@susanneschmidt6159 I'm not as concerned about NYC. It's the swing states that could see the biggest problems. For solid Red and Blue areas, I would encourage caution and the chance of not wanting to go out for a week.
We have been displaced from our home for the last 6.5 months. Heading back home at the end of the upcoming week, praise God! Unfortunately, some of my stockpile was inundated with rodents 😢, continuing to go through and throw items away….such a waste!!! But we do have quite a bit stored up in Mylar inside of 5 gallon buckets, in addition to a full chest freezer. Can’t wait to get home and start canning some of our freezer items and beans to put on the shelves, not to mention restocking water and some of the items that were lost to rodents. Leisa, you are a Godsend! Thank you for all you do for your community, IRL and virtually. I appreciate you!! 🎉🎉
FINALLY got through 80 lbs of carrots. Ended up with 40 quarts of brown sugar maple glazed carrots for the pantry. Dinner tonight was the 15 bean pizza soup that I canned up a few weeks ago. Thank you for that recipe Leisa.....it was so good on this chilly night here in Maine.
I have a badass pantry thanks to you ❤ very grateful. I do need to inventory I’m not the best organizer and I forget to label half the time. I’ve been shooting for 5 peeps and 2 dogs for three months.
Did some “grocery” shopping in the last 2 days and found myself buying a few more canned goods as well as various seasonings (no fresh foods, it was just pantry prep). And here you are, talking about seasonings tonight! Oddly, I looked for barley and found nothing but Quaker small packages. No lentils. The hunt continues…. The past few days I have been gathering recipes for my comm’l canned proteins. Half my hems are molting and I’m getting days with zero eggs…ack. I now have a wood heating stove and will be placing my order for seasoned hardwood this week. Almost ready. YOU are FABULOUS❤. Thank you, Leisa!
We have been prepping for a while now. Moved to the country and raise/grow our own food. I HATE meal prep. I hate trying to come up with food to eat from our preps. We live in CA, and we have lost power for a week at a time, running the genny 24/7 isn’t an option when gas is $5/gallon. All our cooking is propane, so not affected by power loss. A few years ago I started writing down the receipts I used when cooking from my preps. I made a star chart for how well the family liked it. That also gave me an idea of what I need more of. More canned beans, more canned vegetables, more canned broth. Less canned meat as I have more than I realized. More canned chili and canned soups. Homemade, home canned soup is a quick, easy meal that is tasty when the day without power has been a long one.
Simple meals: Choose pasta, rice, or potatoes. Add some leftover or canned meat. Toss in your choice of veggie. Cook it all together with your favorite herbs. Figure out what kind of sauce to add: garlic & olive oil, tomato sauce, cream soup, plain ol' milk, maybe some kind of cheese. The options are as endless as your imagination. Great Value canned chicken, canned spinach, any pasta, some powdered milk. You now have Chicken Florentine. Part of a can of Keystone beef, powdered brown gravy, egg noodles. Optional mushrooms. There's your Beef Stroganoff. Great Value scalloped potatoes, a small can of ham bits or a bit of Spam, a can of corn, powdered milk. There's a comforting meal in one pan. Pasta, chopped tomatoes, zucchini, maybe some black olives, garlic & olive oil. That's a variation of the Italian Puttanesca.
Foraged elderberries, rose hips, usnea, pears and apples Thursday got it all dehydrated and medicine made yesterday... apple slices are in dehydrator now, peeling and dicing potatoes to be canned right now. Still have to pull basil and calendula out of the garden tonight. Fermenting pears into cider. Nights are getting chilly. 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you Leisa. I'm pretty well stocked and nearly ready, but now there's a new storm, Milton, that's supposed to be headed our way midweek. We'll be a wreck by election day without any civil unrest. But we will be prepared. 😊
We have several different cooking methods. Several single canister single butner types, a coleman stove, and one ofthose huge stand up propane 2 butner cook top, plus a little coleman oven to bake bisquits, bread, and treats, blankets for "kettle-type" cooking, with 4 20 lb propane tanks. And other types of bottled gases. We have a buddy heater blankets and tents in case we lose power and need to block off and heat a smaller area. Have solar loghts, battery lights, and lots of batteries. Desperately waiting for the money to come in the mail for my shelving units to organize my 2nd bedroom/extended pantry. I know I have so mich food in there, dehydrated, freeze dried, canned and dry. I just really need it organized so I can find things when we need them!!! 😮 Already bought more meats to can including 14 pounds of tuna, so it can get shelf stable. I can continue to can even through hard times as long as we dont lose power. Even then, I have ways to can food, rather than let it spoil. I need more lids I have plenty of jars and bands. Lots of seeds for sprouting in case we can't get fresh greens. I love sprouts all bu themselves. Hundreds of pounds of grains, rice, beans, yellow and white dent corn, masa harina, barley, oats, and potato flakes. Watching these poor souls lose everything has made me so grateful to be prepared. Unfortunately, for many kf of them, they lost all their preps too, so thats always a thing...😢 We really have no way to bug out as I'm in a wheelchair, so we plan on hunkering down unless there's a fire, or something like that forces us out of our apartment. Have ways to colse of eindows and doors with things already planned to move in front of them to stop intruders. Have protection and ammo and all my buckets can line the walls to help protect against bullets. Our issues will be controlled medication's, and having to leave our home cuz there's no way we could take our preps with us. I will continue to can the foods we've already stockpiled in our freezers and buckets. We easily have enough to make it for probably a year other than water. But we have the means to purify water if needed, in additin to what we slready have stored. Being in an apartment makes all this a little more challenging but it can be done. Where theres a eill theress a way!!! Ive got stuff stashed everywhere it cAn possibly be stashed. I don't even care ehat oeople anymore I've got at least 20 buckets lining the walls going down the entire hallways filled with food stuff. So Ive mostly got all the things now I can soend the entire winter converit. Yhem to shelf stable meals on top of what we already have. Maybee be safe, healthy and ready for whatever this season will bring us. The major wildfires we have in our area are the closet thing I can imagine to what's happening to everyone with hurricane Helene, they totally wipe out everything, homes, cars, and totally change the landscape forever!!! 😢 The best we can ever do is try to be prepared and pray for all the rest I wish everyone the very best friends 💗💯💗
Great tips, sending this to friends and family. We live in a sunny state but lose power many times a year, evacuated at least 1-3 times a year.. We use portable panel solar cookers and a solar box/oven to conserve gas/propane. People often forget to think about different cooking methods/ devices to use for cooking in various emergency situations. Another way to conserve fuel is by using thermal cookers ( retained heat.) My point is If you don't have enough fuel or power to cook, or most importantly to boil water, what will you do? Think about what will work best in your region, environment, season, shelter. Even adding a simple inexpensive alcohol stove + fuel to boil water, cook canned food , will make a huge difference during a stressful time. Our support and prayers are on going for those affected by Helene. 🙏😢
You are so right! My neighbors think I'm crazy for cooking in my solar oven like I do. I also have my Camp Chef stove out to cook/can on during uber hot days as it's just too hot to can indoors. It's just the small 2 burner with oven, but it works great. I tend to use my thermal cooker more in the winter, especially if I'm working crazy hours. I think more people will start seriously using alternative methods of cooking as the price of fuels and electricity continue to rise. Our electricity is currently $.59 (59 cents) per kwatt at it's cheapest with propane at $3.70 per gallon. I try to encourage everyone to be very conservative in their energy use and to explore alternative ways of cooking.
I've been watching a lot of channels talking about hurricane damage. If that isn't a wake-up call to prep, then I don't know what is. Please remember too that sometimes you can never prepare enough and sometimes you can still lose it all. Rely on God all of the time. Strengthen that relationship with Him. We decided our solar generators were not going to provide the power we would need, so we bought a dual gas generator and two large canisters of propane. I've heard too, that some of the people in the hills of the hurricane devastation are hijacking cars and trucks who are bringing in supplies. Desperate people do desperate things. What would you do if they came for your supplies, plan now.
If you have a freezer buy enough bread for a month and put it in the freezer.. there are a lot of limitations in a SHTF scenario that even if you know how to cook, you may not be able to. Tortilla wraps are also a good choice, store in a metal tin to keep fresh like a popcorn tin. Saltine Crackers for both soups and can be used for things like peanut butter and jelly or a meat spread. Instant pancake mix can also be used as a wrap for something like hot dogs or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Anna In Ohio
I got a bunch of chicken and a pork loin. I have pneumonia, so I didn't feel like canning, but i cubed each and put in freezer bags with the amount needed for each canning recipe. Next week I'll can some meals with them. I am doing chicken soup, white chicken chili, chicken pot pie base, pork pot pie base, and pork and gravy, which makes a stroganoff or I add potatoes and carrots and put inside a bread pocket. I have looked for a shank ham for 6 months so I can bake it and make ham potato soup, bean recipes with ham, etc, but stores have not had hams since Easter, which is not usual
Thank you so much for all your ideas and advice. My,pantry is growing and developing into something amazing that I can use right now for at least 30 days. I am working now on 60days. You are an angel
9 more pints of ugly pork. Future me thanks my husband for canning while I was at work. The last of the tomato harvest is roasting in the oven, soon to be pasta sauce. You have been an inspiration, thank you Leesa
I'm canning apple sauce and apple butter this week. Just spent the day in my 10 year olds bedroom wrote down everything that needs to be purchased and put a bag aside for a niece of clothes that don't fit. Tomorrow is my son's room. For food other then my canning. I am making sure my baking items are up to par this week. Next week I believe it is topping off propane and diesel/ gas
We just bought a wood fireplace this past weekend. I also went thru our water buckets, get home bags, in car stash, lighting. I got on Temu and Amazon. Alot of great deals. My favorite is the 100lb Collapsible Rain Water barrel, spout and mesh covers. $45 for the barrel. We have sand/gravel bricks to make the platform for it. Thanks! You are one of my go to channels now
I've been teaching my family how to cook bread and other meals in a Dutch oven over a fire/coals and on the propane stove plus teaching them how to use a ferron rod/striker. We also went out and got black out curtains. Helps a lot in more ways than one. Think of heat sources as well due to cold weather is just right around the corner. We made this a part of our preps. Look on a map to see where all the water sources are at just in case you have to venture out to get water. Keep maps on hand and I know you have said this before. Teach others how to read those maps...so many of the younger generation do not know how to. Hugs to you for all you do! Love your videos!
Leisa you ROCK! Thanks for all you do! I have family in Tampa Bay and friends and family all the way up into GA. Many Blessings to you from Deborah in West Virginia!
Yahahaha i knew i was in trouble the moment you said inventory my food on Sunday. Lmao i have lost track of inventories years ago and the food i have would take more than a day to inventory. Chuckles... i do need to do it and organised tho. .. but thank you for making me laugh. My tip to newbies who are poor like me ... water. Pasta. Sugar. Rice, beans. Flour, milk. They are cheap and keep you alive . Food fatigue is an issue but only if youre alive long enough to care. Pasta will keep you alive whilst you forage nuts, wild garlic..and berries and cattails ect anyhooo.. good luck everyone.
WoW! I took your meatball recipe for canning and tweeked it. LOVE IT! I seasoned the meat with onions, curry, gram marsala, ginger, and garlic powder. Canned them in my homemade tomato puree I canned this summer. Then....when I opened the jar, I added coconut milk to tomato sauce with more seasoning and a dash of sugar. AMAZING!!!!!!
I'm quite new to the channel, I did start prepping on a very tight budget about 8months ago. I just wanted to say, I love your channel, your voice is so calming, finally someone who does not make panic even more. Love your style and I think you are so cool! Thank you for all your advice and help!
Thank you! I’ve been prepping since before 2020 but have used stuff over time and now getting things back stocked.. trying to not be obsessive but I have small children and animals and a home that most of my relatives will probably want to seek shelter in so I feel a heavy burden to have extra. They don’t take it as seriously and I fear they will show up with little and though I’ve told them to get some stuff I can only do what I can do. Hoping my neighbors and I can help each other out and share recourses as I have a lot of natural stuff around here in Texas but depending on the weather that could affect so much. Prayers for America, don’t rely on the government rely on your own instincts and community
Thank you so much for this video! My 30 day effort starts tomorrow. By the way, I was sick with the flu last week. I ate soup and canned fruit out of the beginnings of my pantry. Lucky I had already started!
Almost finished restocking my bare canning shelves...i just do not have a good feeling about after the election and then this winter in texas. Getting another cord of wood too so heat won't be a worry with the fireplace. Love these tips!
Thank you so much Leisa! I’ve made the list you have shared here & Im ready to get started on it. Extra appreciation for this because you’ve mentioned you have friends that were impacted by the hurricane so naturally you’ve been thinking about them. Your a real treasure and I appreciate you!! ❤️👍🏻🌹
Hi Leisa, my husband and I are in our late 50s. He often talks about buying a home on a lot of land for peace and quiet. While I mostly like the idea, I have concerns about not being close to a hospital especially as we get older. When you commented about wanting 100 acres, it made me wonder how you look at this issue. Thanks!
I have thought of this too there are a lot of areas around the country that are dying towns, house prices are cheap low crime etc but no hospitals, no grocery stores in their towns, no libraries and I'm a widow now but Oh it sounds so tempting I am retired so money isn't the issue but all the things we take for granted living remotely is a challenge. My sister lived on 14 acres in the country and when she was pregnant we were worried during a snow storm how they would even be able to get out to the main road we kind of laughed and said they'd have to send someone in by ski mobile to get her.. thankfully it didn't happen but even that short of a distance off a main road was worrisome. They were snowed in for over a week, no water ( no electric) even though they were on well.. her husband brought in snow and melted it they had a kerosene heater. They put up a tent in the center of the room and they all stayed in the tent including mother in law. They now live on a 9 acre land but civilization has moved closer to them and they aren't so far away from the main road. Anna In Ohio
That's an issue as we age. When we were looking for a house in 2019, my hubby said he wanted at least an acre. What we bought is a half acre and he complains about having to maintain it. I keep reminding him he said he wanted more😂. But lots of land needs management. Where we live, cedar trees and some noxious weeds are a real issue. Those need to be kept in check. The idea is wonderful, but it can be a lot of work
I live in the central part of Colorado. Our community is 5 minutes from everything, grocery store, medical clinic, library, veterinary, everything retired people need. I love it here
Being somewhat remote at an older age sounds tempting but definitely try for a happy medium. If there is no hospital where you’re looking, look for how close the ambulance service is. An ambulance can keep you stable to get you to a hospital. Look at the “what if” scenario. If you have mobility issues at some point, think about how far your mailbox is or if fedex/ups will deliver on your porch. I have a close friend who is unable to go to her mailbox and depends on the neighbors to get her mail and take her trash. If a box is too large or fedex leaves it elsewhere on the property, her neighbors have to get it for her. Look at Walmart delivery to that area for groceries if needed. People think they want gardens and they are an awesome addition….but with weather and animals (rabbits, deer, moles, gophers, bugs), it’s not always easy to walk away with much. Look to the outskirts of town for lower taxes and possibly a well. The well doesn’t even have to be your primary water source but can be used to water grass, the garden and livestock and you can use it in an emergency. An acre or two is more than plenty for the average person. Look for property next to wooded areas, pasture land where people have hay or have cattle and tree farms that will give you privacy but you’re still close to civilization. I hope this helps a little in getting your thoughts together. ❤
Thank you SO much to all of you who posted these thorough responses!! I greatly appreciate all of this wise advice, personal experiences shared and presentation of possible scenarios to consider. This all helps tremendously!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and energy for these videos. You inspire me so much Ms. Sutton love ya sister. You have family here in Northern Virginia!! ❤😊
I canned apple slices today. I had room in the canner, so I canned 3 qts of water. Glass is better than plastic, and if I need the jars later for food, I'll water my house plants 😊
When doing a marathon canning session I will can one jar of water per load. If that means only 1 jar of product and the rest water that’s ok! Pints and quarts of water stocked up!!
Hello Mrs Popcorn! Please say hello to Phil for me. With that being said, I would like to quickly share what I plan to do for water. We are so blessed here in Northern michigan to have artisan wells in multiple locations. Learn where they are before things go south. Also, as a First responder don't forget that most EMS and Fire Departments have emergency generators to keep the lights on. Which also means the "wells" have an endless supply of water. 😉 Keep up the great work. Mike ✌️
Thank you for all you do to help us all be ready for what may happen. It is crazy that our politics in this country have created the need for this. I have prepared the best I can for natural disasters as I live along the Gulf Coast. One thing people do not think of is a battery for their car key and to make sure their car battery is in good shape. During a hard and prolonged freeze here in South Texas, my battery died, and had to be replaced. Luckily, I had AAA and they replaced it for me.
I'm so envious of the cheap foods you have in the USA.. To have a dollar tree would be incredible!!.. One small can of corned beef is between $6-12 depending on the brand, we haven't been able to get some canned veges for well over a year & those we can get are nearly $5 for a small can of green beans.. It's not great, but I'm stocking up on instant noodles, canned soup, spaghetti and baked beans.. Every little bit helps..
I just got an extra bag of dog food and chicken feed. By the end of this month, I plan on getting a 100# propane tank and getting it filled, and also get emergency blankets for covering up the windows and doors this winter. I am ordering garden seeds and supplies for next year. I want to get paper products and cleaning supplies to last through the winter. I know I need to get more water, so cleaning out a closet making room in my closet. I personally only have about 20 gallons so far. I want to work through the end of the year, but not sure I can.
Friends start today It's Sunday night. I'm canning my freezer for a second time in a month. The grocery stores that reopened after Helene are empty. Shell shocked people are wandering through Walmart clutching a loaf of bread searching for anything else. I was looking for bleach to replace what was used after Helene. The empty shelf was labeled $7.99 a generic gallon. We have another Hurricane headed straight towards us on Wednesday. I'm so grateful for having prepared, and knowing how to save the meat in my freezer. I'm grateful for this community.
We did a Walmart run this morning. Also bought a Coleman burner and butane, coffee pot to & figured out how to can off the grid & got that stuff too. I was surfing RUclips & found a video how women can outside off grid in Azurbizan.. So went & got some cement blocks & bricks at Menards. We already have steel grates & going to build a cooking stove . I already have pot that can sit on the grates to process jars. Got that done but still have a small list to finish.
Everything in my pantry as far as canned goods have best by date even if they can last longer and my rice and beans ate vacuumed sealed. Even powder milk is vacuumed sealed. I just checked everything. I do not have long term storage on certain things that won’t last long. Only rice, beans and canned goods. I have some spices that got in a bag type thing and I vacuumed sealed them. Now all the rice and beans and spices are in totes. Keeps mice out. I know we’ve had mice last house. I eat oatmeal sometimes. I don’t buy cereal like dry cereal any more. Bruce knows how to hunt and process meat ( deer ). We just got our green house so we can do another garden again. Bruce knows how. We’ve had a garden several times and got lots of food. But moved so got to start over. Great tips and encouragement. I’ve seen a lot of people fed up with what’s going on in the world and I don’t blame him. I’m just a sped up.
Just wanted to mention a few things we do. Instead of just filling a tub with water, get a water bob...they hold about 100 gallons. Perfect for flushing toilet or filling a bucket for sanitation. I also discovered Scrubzzz..just a splash of water and you have lather to freshen up with...best part is you wipe it off with a towel. They work great! Instead of Bisquik..try Krusteaz pancake mix...only need water. And now is the time to satisfy your sweet tooth prep with all the Halloween candy!
Yesterday was slow-cooker potluck. Leftover pumpkin, a handful of marble sized runt homegrown potatoes, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, 2 old microwave Mexican bean and rice packets, a dented can of bbq pulled pork, a can of chopped tomatoes. Let it brew for 2 hours. Dinner for 3 or 4 meals. Serve on mash potatoes, baked potato, with bread, whatever.
Practice using seasonings differently. Italian seasoning and garlic on pinto beans is delicious! I tried to see how I can change up rice and beans and feel like I’m eating something different. I’m going to try Zaatar seasoning for Mediterranean flavor or Masala for an Indian flavor on them next. Chicken bullion or beef bullion for another flavor, molasses and BBQ sauce for another. Ranch dressing, Tomato sauce, or ketchup for another, taco seasoning or fajita seasoning for another, teriyaki sauce and pineapple for another. You could have beans and rice daily but have a variety of flavors.
Balsamic vinegar, brown sugar in savory dishes, elderflower syrup....Definitely learn how to make your own teriyaki or Gen. Tso's sauces! Changing up the flavors of otherwise bland and boring foods makes a big difference.
Grid-down Corn Chowder-- (room temperature ingredients) take a packet of sausage gravy mix, follow the directions, add a can of chicken, 2 cans corn or creamed corn, onion and garlic powder to taste, heat till everything is warm.
Thanks! My husband and I picked up our half of a cow yesterday.
That is awesome!

Outstanding!

Wow, thank you
That gave me goose bumps. Thank you for watching out for your neighbors.
You can also make "fast rice" (not minute rice) so that in an emergency, you can rehydrate it, and it doesnt take as long to prepare it.
Vaseline is the best “lotion” for chapped hands.
Vaseline is flammable though. Don’t use around oxygen machines or an open flame!
If you're having trouble lighting a fire, (camp fire) put a little Vaseline on a cotton ball and light it. Especially when windy.
Great ideas! I think 6 gallons of water per person per day is best. I've been consumed with the devastation in east TN and western NC. Thankfully, I'm connected with folks in east TN, who are helping out those in need. The govt isn't helping. It's up to "we the people" to save/help the survivors.

@@aprilcapps4564 absolutely we do. We lose power here pretty often with wind and trees down. Generators and a battery bank.
@@jillking-miller4257 that's awesome. So many people talk about full freezers and how they are prepared but then you hear them telling about how they lost it all in a power outage.

My pantry is a hot mess. I finally ordered 4 more shelving units to buckle down and organize. It's all thanks to you for the push. I appreciate you
We have been prepping for a while now.
Awesome, great meals in a bag. Thank you.
How did you do you elderberries?
Rice is very versatile . In PR we make some fritters made with rice flour called almojabanas.

I'm quite new to the channel, I did start prepping on a very tight budget about 8months ago. I just wanted to say, I love your channel, your voice is so calming, finally someone who does not make panic even more. Love your style and I think you are so cool! Thank you for all your advice and help!
Welcome aboard!
Maybe I missed it but, don't forget to keep your gas tanks full in your vehicles and full gas cans.
One bite at a time!!!
Thank you Leisa....you have taught us a all so much. You are the ROCK star.
You can do this!
I canned up 9 quarts of deconstructed stuffed peppers yesterday. With your instructions of course 😉
Thank you so much for this video! My 30 day effort starts tomorrow. By the way, I was sick with the flu last week. I ate soup and canned fruit out of the beginnings of my pantry. Lucky I had already started!
That is great, you were ready!
Almost finished restocking my bare canning shelves...i just do not have a good feeling about after the election and then this winter in texas. Getting another cord of wood too so heat won't be a worry with the fireplace.
Love these tips!
I am using this as a program for my TOPS group. Take Off Pounds Sensibly. Great ideas for menu planning...for whatever reason! Thanks
I need ghee and coconut oil. Thanks for your reminder. Great video.
Mike ✌️
Thanks for sharing Mike! Be safe!
Thanks!
The ports were on strike for a few days. Alabama cleared the shelves in some areas. Imagine civil unrest!
Oatmeal made with milk instead of water and with some raisins and a few dashes of cinnamon makes a pretty good breakfast.
You can add some protein powder to it also for added nutrition.
Some walnuts or pecans or dried cranberries make great additions as well.
Great video and keep em coming.
Thanks for all you share! Knowledge is power
Ordered a solar generator and panels.
Ty Leisa, I have my fondue pot.
❤❤
Watching this for the third time. Such a great video.
Friends start today
It's Sunday night.
Just cleaned and organized my spices, yay
That is awesome!
That was a well thought out list!
I've been looking for my fondue pot at goodwill for a year now with no luck. Yesterday I finally scored! $4.99, woot!
Great job!
Great idea!!
Yes, bought a supply of Scrubzz last year. 👍🏼
Love how organized but broken down simple. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing today. We are prepared since 2000. Childfree for life and pet friendly
Prayers for days ahead. Thank you for this information. Thanks to Everyone for helping people in these storms. 🙏🏼❤️
I am stacking , THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU'RE HELP , YOU ALWAYS GIVE FOOD FOR THOUGHT , I LOVE IT , LOL😊
Canning 3 quarts of ham bone broth as I watch this! And have 5 quarts of cranberry juice up next today!
Ha, I'm also canning. Salsa verde and pasta sauce.
🤦♀️ I have hambone in the freezer I fotgot about. Thank you
You are a gem, I love learning and being reminded of things I have overlooked. You are the reason I learned canning this past year. Thank you❤
You can do it!
Grid-down Corn Chowder-- (room temperature ingredients) take a packet of sausage gravy mix, follow the directions, add a can of chicken, 2 cans corn or creamed corn, onion and garlic powder to taste, heat till everything is warm.
I'm giving myself until the 25 th of October, that's it for me and we are staying close to home going to see if my mom, need anything else too. 😊
