Great nesting walk! On which species you'll be focusing at that time of the season?

Hi fella, Used to absolutely love birdnesting in the 70's. Although its rightly illegal to take eggs I still like to documents nests i find. What was/is your favourite egg of all the nests you come across. I don't why but i used to love tawney owls and hedgesparrow eggs.

as a kid the first good nest i found was a tawny owl, i always enjoyed finding and checking them, sky lark was probably the hardest for me.

@@birdsnestsnature Could never find a skylarks nest when i was a kid but the last couple of years I do a lot of hiking and have come across quite a few. Only because i have almost stepped on the nest.

@@gerwynbirtles7505 Retired, but whilst still working I'd come across plover nests in the railroad yard by almost stepping on some. Once I found my first one, I walked more carefully, scanning every step, and found others very easily. Once I had an opportunity to catch a little chick, a straggler in the group and were between the rails, unable to hop across. Carefully scooping the little one, I immediately saw and almost couldn't believe how skinny and tiny it's little legs were! Unbelievable! I walked him towards the group and set it gently down and was also impressed at the speed it attained.
Observation of other nests informed me that the chicks were on their feet and gone soon after hatching. What was an egg one morning was an empty shell the next day. To nest in the yard next to tracks with cars often rolling by (humpyard) always surprised me.
      TTFN.
