- Cruising along the canals is such laid-back cruising, which we really embraced as we stopped at unexpected destinations, got lost on a hike, and had a low-key evening on a lock wall. Cruising on the Erie Canal has been a favorite part of the Great Loop so far.
Thanks for watching!
Cheers from the Loop,
Jennifer and Elliot

ABOUT US
Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
Thank you for following us along our journey!

As a kid(6-13), I went through every lock on the Erie Canal at least 3 times and some many more, I grew up on Seneca Lake and was on a 50 foot Chris Craft. I love this footage. I am now, (mostly sailing, but still love power boats), in the San Francisco Bay . However the canal has so much history and this is where I learned so much. Love it!
That E17 lock gate is called a guillotine gate...an appropriate descriptive me thinks. Anyhoo...enjoyed the video - thanks for sharing. Cheers...
It was a super neat Lock! On of our favorites!
Oh my gosh, OLLIE turning the boat off!! She's the best 🥰🐾
🐶❤️❤️
You invented the "Random Salad"...lol. Sorry we missed you in Chesapeake City!
Super comfy episode guys ‼️ 👍 ✨ 🌊 💨 🛥🌞✨
Ya...mosquito city...nothing more irritating.
Evening meal looked yummy!
Thanks Larry!
“Head back to Chateau Pivot” I love it! Living your best life.
haha thanks Erich!
A couple other points of interest in this area. Just east of Lock 17 is a floating Dock to visit the General Nicholas Herkimer home and farm. He was a pivotal character in the Battle of Oriskany during the Revolution. Just west of Benton’s Landing is the Little Falls Marina which is the better place to spend the evening than the wall at lock 18 or just a little further and the wall Herkimer has a restaurant and walking distance to stores. Great videos!
Thanks Chris! We looked for the Herkimer home dock but it wasn't there when we passed through. We loved staying at the lock wall, its like the "anchoring" of docking haha
Wow…over 40 feet in the lock…so awesome! I loved Benton Landing/Little Falls. Docking along the wall by the locks is nice for getting out to workout and giving Ollie a good run…I bet you all enjoy that! I hope Elliott didn’t continue to feel sick after this video. Safe travels!
Thanks Suzanne! The stops on the Canal have been super pretty, we'd love to spend more time in Little Falls! Thanks for watching 😁
As always great video. Love the Erie Canal. ❤
Thanks Jesse!
Happy to see this new video uploaded for our Friday night viewing pleasure!
You guys and Ollie are great!
Thanks John 😁
This is awesome. My grandfather was lock master at lock 17 back in the day. Also worked at lock 18. I luve right next to lock 18 and was happy to see this video. Thank you
Wow really surprised we didnt see you guys there .My wife and i walk that trail almost every other day early morning. That whole trail system was just put in in 2021 its really nice there
That’s awesome! It’s a great trail!
You guys are great! Love your commentary and video! Keep up the great coverage of your Great Loop adventure!!!!! What an adventure through time! A lifetime of memories you are gathering! PIVOT on!
Thanks so much Vern!!
Definitely one of your best videos, you really captured the beauty of being on the canal!
Plus Ollie was chatty…
Thanks so much!!
Guys, love the video! You are on the mohawk river not the Erie canal. The bike path that is on your left is the old tow path for the donkeys, just passed that path is the Erie canal.
Hi Ken! Thanks for the support! I'm not sure which point of the video you're referring too but the Mohawk River and the Erie Canal are sometimes the same body of water and sometimes not. I believe since starting the Erie Canal in Waterford we never diverged from the Canal until we turned off to Oswego. There was an older Erie Canal too, to sort of complicate things. Cheers!
Good video and especially showing the history and the different terrain thqt the landscape gives. Fresh groceries and life is good.
Thanks Buck
Mammoth Cave National Park!!! I went there as a kid. I thought it was a great place.
Nice, it is a very cool National Park 😁
Now that's what it's all about, see something you like and stop, great vlog 👍
Absolutely!
Love your videos.
Loving the Erie Canal! Can’t wait to see your videos of Canada! We call them Muskoka chairs here in 🇨🇦 you might already know this but the reason for all the debris in the canal is because of the seasons! The canal freezes and the snow on the trees makes branches break off and sit on top of the ice during the winter months and when it’s time to melt lots have accumulated and takes months to clear from the canal! You guys are so awesome and always look forward to your videos! Not going to lie looking forward to see your time in Canada and to hear what you guys thought of your time here! Cheers
Right on Shawn! Totally makes sense about the debris in the canals, I think we learned that while we were in Canada haha!
Wish you had had the chance to get to Pittsford-Rochester though I understand and agree with the reasons you went north.
Glad to see you were able to visit us. The movie a Quiet Place was filmed using Little Falls Main St with all of the store fronts. As a local it’s nice to see what others from outside of our area think. Happy travels!
Just checked out the trailer for that movie and sure enough recognized main street! Neat! Thanks for sharing Nicole 😁
Make sure to budget some time to spend in the Tonawanda when you pass thru to the Niagara River. North Tonawanda has some great family run eateries and there's plenty of historical sites to visit as well. Happy and safe travels
Thanks for watching Kenneth, unfortunately we are going North on the Oswego Canal so will have to check that out another time!
@@SchoandJo upstate New York is beautiful no matter what part your visiting. If you guys ever decide to visit western New York I can point you towards some fantastic eating and sight seeing. Good luck love the channel
Awesome video..Closer to 🇨🇦🇨🇦. .
Those thrusters are so cool. Planning to invest in one. You guys are inspirational
Thanks Ed! We love our bow thruster, and we've heard from people who have Stern thrusters, that they love theirs too 😁
Great vid guys!
Thanks Tony!
Should have been passing out treats. Lock Master probably get nicer especially when they radio ahead saying snacks coming!!!!
For sure!! 😁
You can see my second and third field at 26:59 with my tractor up in back next to the thruway. This is technically Jacksonburg/ mohawk not herkimer
i live north of lock 20 , i hope to complete the same adventure someday soon. PEACE kids
Nice, good luck Bob!
Think that skin so soft works as well on mosquitoes as no see ems.
No judgement, but you do have a diesel generator? Sorry, getting old so I'd forego food to offset fuel cost to run it. No sleep if I'm hot. Stayed in Baton Rouge last month. Tired from driving so did get sleep and didn't notice heat. I'd say got to do one or other. If I'm cool then hot then cool, getting on plane and going home. Here's the keys. 1st offer accepted. 😂😂😂
We do have a generator! We haven't used it too often though
What a great video. Selling everything. Quitting job. Buying a pony and a boat. Imagine I get 100K subscribers w that. Me upon my pony on my boat. Lyle Lovett reference if you didn't know. At wedding in July in Buffalo years ago. Needed light jacket at night. Hopefully heat wave broke
Does Pivot have a generator?
Yes we do!
I thought one earlier lock was 65’?
I think so, there are different specifics that make this one unique, I think mainly it was the Guillotine door 😁
Doesn’t your auto pilot tell rider position?
No it doesn't, it used to be a feature but has never worked on this boat since we've owned it
@@SchoandJo check into it. A very good safety feature.
Actually, Ollie gets a high four!
Absolutely 🐾
Better eat them all before getting back on boat. Bananas and boats bad luck. If you're superstitious. Maybe it's only fishing luck
I'm not superstitious only a little stitious 😂
How about cutting the video of Elliot with no shirt on in your intro ? Not okay for women nor men to do it publicly . Thanks .
Hi Jerry! Sorry, we try to keep everything reasonable and true to life on Pivot, and being in bathing suits while boating in the Keys is part of the life! If you feel offended, it isn't our intention but it'll be staying! Cheers
