  • Cruising along the canals is such laid-back cruising, which we really embraced as we stopped at unexpected destinations, got lost on a hike, and had a low-key evening on a lock wall. Cruising on the Erie Canal has been a favorite part of the Great Loop so far.
    Thanks for watching!
    Cheers from the Loop,

    ABOUT US
    Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
    The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
    Thank you for following us along our journey!

    As a kid(6-13), I went through every lock on the Erie Canal at least 3 times and some many more, I grew up on Seneca Lake and was on a 50 foot Chris Craft. I love this footage. I am now, (mostly sailing, but still love power boats), in the San Francisco Bay . However the canal has so much history and this is where I learned so much. Love it!

    That E17 lock gate is called a guillotine gate...an appropriate descriptive me thinks. Anyhoo...enjoyed the video - thanks for sharing. Cheers...

    A couple other points of interest in this area. Just east of Lock 17 is a floating Dock to visit the General Nicholas Herkimer home and farm. He was a pivotal character in the Battle of Oriskany during the Revolution. Just west of Benton’s Landing is the Little Falls Marina which is the better place to spend the evening than the wall at lock 18 or just a little further and the wall Herkimer has a restaurant and walking distance to stores. Great videos!

      @SchoandJo  Год назад

      Thanks Chris! We looked for the Herkimer home dock but it wasn't there when we passed through. We loved staying at the lock wall, its like the "anchoring" of docking haha

    Wow…over 40 feet in the lock…so awesome! I loved Benton Landing/Little Falls. Docking along the wall by the locks is nice for getting out to workout and giving Ollie a good run…I bet you all enjoy that! I hope Elliott didn’t continue to feel sick after this video. Safe travels!

    Guys, love the video! You are on the mohawk river not the Erie canal. The bike path that is on your left is the old tow path for the donkeys, just passed that path is the Erie canal.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад

      Hi Ken! Thanks for the support! I'm not sure which point of the video you're referring too but the Mohawk River and the Erie Canal are sometimes the same body of water and sometimes not. I believe since starting the Erie Canal in Waterford we never diverged from the Canal until we turned off to Oswego. There was an older Erie Canal too, to sort of complicate things. Cheers!

    Loving the Erie Canal! Can’t wait to see your videos of Canada! We call them Muskoka chairs here in 🇨🇦 you might already know this but the reason for all the debris in the canal is because of the seasons! The canal freezes and the snow on the trees makes branches break off and sit on top of the ice during the winter months and when it’s time to melt lots have accumulated and takes months to clear from the canal! You guys are so awesome and always look forward to your videos! Not going to lie looking forward to see your time in Canada and to hear what you guys thought of your time here! Cheers

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад

    No judgement, but you do have a diesel generator? Sorry, getting old so I'd forego food to offset fuel cost to run it. No sleep if I'm hot. Stayed in Baton Rouge last month. Tired from driving so did get sleep and didn't notice heat. I'd say got to do one or other. If I'm cool then hot then cool, getting on plane and going home. Here's the keys. 1st offer accepted. 😂😂😂
