  • I wrote this tune right after I received the phone call that my grandfather had passed away. Composing music is a magical thing. Sometimes you can spend days working on a piece of music, thinking about where you want to go with it. But sometimes it only takes a few minutes, as with this song. I took my instrument and a few minutes later this melody came to me, straight from the heart to the instrument.
    This one is for Bobby.

That's really beautiful, and the sensitive playing matches the music.

Very beautiful. It is a pity that there are so few mandolin compositions on the channel

Thanks a lot! It's played on a 'Axe octave mandolin' made by the great Paul Shippey (www.paulshippey.co.uk)

What kind of mandolin is this instrument? Is it an octave mandolin? Can you tell me?

I believe it's an Irish Bouzouki... which is similar to an Octave Mandolin, except it's a little longer.
