I lived in Cowtown for twenty years, and it treated me very well. Like every city/province, there are things I love about it, and things I do not. Overall, it's a great city to live in; it's safe, clean, fairly reasonable when it comes to homeownership. It's not a very touristy city, and the weather can be pretty. I moved back to my hometown of Vancouver, BC in 2016, I still miss Calgary, and haven't abandoned the possibility of moving back, should a good opportunity come my way.
Decent overview of Calgary, however u like many travel bloggers only use pix when the city is either in spring, summer & fall. Showing the streets, architecture & natural spaces with snow & ice paint a much more realistic picture of what actual life is like (for at least 6 months of the year). Large skyline for the cities size! The bow is very pretty, love Calgary been there for an NHL Flames game against the Sabres. Would love to see a city overview of Buffalo, NY when you get the chance!
I work at the BOW and can share a fun fact about Calgary. The largest/tallest bridge in Calgary is actually under 6th avenue directly under the BOW. The underground parkade at the BOW spans from 5th ave to 7th ave and in order not to disrupt traffic they had to build a huge 7 story bridge over the hole for the parkade, they then built the parkade and the BOW 'around' this bridge. If you walked over it now you'd never know that there is an underground 'bridge' there. Very cool. Also the best views are from the 54th floor skygardens at the BOW.
I have driven through Calgary countless times on trips to Banff and Jasper but have never taken the time to see the city aside from a stop at Olympic Park once. I'll have to do a real tour someday.

My personal favourite piece of Calgary infrastructure is our 1000+ KM dedicated pathway system for cycling and walking. All new neighbourhoods are required to be tied into this system so that we might navigate from just about anywhere to anywhere else on foot or by bike. I personally have been cycling on this system for 23 years, year round, and love it.
yeah but only being able to use them for a few months a year due to the horrific cold weather makes them pointless ...its like the skywalk downtown ...build to keep you out the cold yet its closed for most of the winter and closes before 6 pm.

@CityGeek I think at one point it was continuous in Calgary too. But maybe adding sections or changing buildings required separation. I remember a documentary decades ago where a couple guys secretly lived in in for months
We love Calgary! It's definitely growing and very multi cultural. Lots of green space and majority of the population are very nice and respectful. Calgary Stampede is must to see!
This definitely is what I needed to be convinced to check this underrated city out… thank you brother. Have been enjoying all your content (new to the channel)
Im from Calgary and I think you video is very informative and that you touched on a lot of the important aspects/topics of Calgary I think you should’ve mentioned more about housing/schools/work places
@@CityGeek ---- also mention the very low violent crime rate. Although there are some occassional gang and drug problems mostly in the north-east section of the city, the gangs being immigrant-based with connections to Vancouver's huge Asian Gang Problem, and a White Canadian Homeless Bum problem downtown, as a single adult male who is very "danger-aware" I would have NO PROBLEM walking alone at night in 90% of this city.
I loved this video. I have lived here for 10 years now and it is my favourite area in all of Canada. A side note you caught me in the pic at 5:02 I was shooting for my TV job for the official opening of the Bow building, I am in the back left of your pic up on a stage in a red shirt beside my Camera and tripod :)
Wow are u serious!? What in the chances Only 111k sow this video and there is 1 billions users of RUclips. U know how almost impossible to watch a video and you see yourself in it ? This is something so interesting
Calgary resident here. Yeah, we've got alot of great stuff, I love watching the Flames in the Saddledome, or celebrating my birthday at the Stampede. You can't forget going through the plus 15s lol. But we've got a massive problem with drugs and housing (still not as bad as Toronto or Vancouver though) If you walk through any street downtown (especially Chinatown or the giant library we have) you can see people overdosing and squatting down everywhere. Also that giant library barely has any books in it lol
Vancouverite here, our crises has only gotten worse. Hopefully the federal government can take steps to promote safer drug use and decriminalization to make people’s lives easier. Best of luck to Calgary on this one
The one big criticism I would make about Calgary is the "homeless bum and drug bum" problem in the city center. It is a HUGE BLIGHT on this city. Rumour is most of them are from Ontario. No politician wants to solve it, and Calgarians tolerate it. Even though they like to play the "Cowboy Culture Card" in this city and it consistently votes right of center, Calgary is actually politically, socially and culturally very silent and reticent about some things, very mouthy and arrogant about some other things. I have lived in Calgary for 5 years, Vancouver for 20 years, but I usually live somewhere in the 800 km / 500 mile region between them, as I am a nature fanatic.
Calgary is awesome. Little cows roaming downtown. The 'Skyway' system in Calgary is called the 'Plus 15 System' as they are typically 15 feet above street level.
I’d love to see a video about my hometown of Winnipeg. Fairly unglamorous upon first sight but there are a ton of hidden gems within and it’s quite quirky and unique.
Winnipeg is posh, it has some top things like the zoo, forks, nice sporting venues, river trails, golf galore. Plus the best lakes and beaches within a short drive and world class fishing too. One of the worlds longest skating paths, and curling like no one's business. Biggest public collection of Inuit art at the WAG and amazing museums. Some unique festival including one of the biggest fork festivals and one of the worlds biggest snow sculpture festivals. Mix of good north American architectural styles, and well preserved area of downtown Chicago styles with a contrast of post modern and the modern throughout the core. River rides, or bbq in one of the well wooded parks, bonfire pits, river or creeks nearly though every sector of the city or small lakes dotted throughout many suburbs. Live music at many small venues, bars, and theatres. Top posh venues like the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Winnipeg Royal Ballet. Winnipeg gets a bad rap for some localized social economic disadvantaged areas. It is a tough and proud town with two very distinct sides, but overall is often overlooked. It has a strong proud history and backed the west to be what it is today.
Winnipeg has cheap cost of living but unfortunately it feels isolating living in winnipeg too cold, crime is rampant, lack of good building infrastructure can't wait to get out of winnipeg for calgary
@@underratedgod6899 like I said, far from perfect. But the landscape creates character. Calgary is very cookie cutter. Nice city though, so best of luck to you.
@@DrNutbag yea thanks bro I've been living in winnipeg most of my life and that's just my opinion about winnipeg it could be positive for other people living here but the main reason really why I would stay out of winnipeg is it can be depressing during the long winters here its not worth the mental health for cheap cost of living
As long as you stay away from the North East aka Brown Town. Try visiting the Marlborough C-Train station and dodge the crackheads smoking meth and fentanyl right in the station. This city is becoming a shithole. Too much immigration, not enough housing or affordable housing, not enough jobs, too many crackhead vagrants that roam around downtown and have essentially taken over the entire C-Train network. Mind you, it’s never been this bad until the last few years. Before the pandemic this place was a different city. Yeah, we still had all the same problems, but they were NOWHERE near the scale they are at now.
In addition to the NHL's Calgary Flames, Calgary is also home to the CFL's Calgary Stampeders, NLL's Calgary Roughnecks, CPL's Calvary FC, AHL's Calgary Wranglers and CEBL's Calgary Surge.
4:43: On February 25, 2013, City Hall was approved the master plan to have the new library be built at the fore-mentioned location at Downtown East Village. The 286,000-square foot Central Library was completed on November 1, 2018, not in 2014.

Been there, done that, wish to repeat . The Blackfoot tribe call the river the Elbow, I call it _De Hoek_ .. (The Hook) . Shaw Millennium was my go-to chill-spot in 2001
How about one about the rest of Calgary and surrounding areas? There is a lot more than just the Downtown. I walked through Forest Lawn and didn't get bothered, and that's supposedly "The Hood" .. It is rough yes, but it's not Chiraq
I recognized your voice right away from the half ass morning show! When you said Minneapolis was your home I knew I was right! Damn bro you are prolific!
I think adding a quick section on public transport would be good. You'll be able to see how Calgary has better light rail then other NA cities of its size but lacks behind population centers like Vancover, Toronto, Montreal, not to mention is dwarfed by most European cities.
Dwarfed by European cities is just the way we like it. Western Canada (and the Western USA) is one of the few places in the Developed World where one still has room to breathe in the wide open spaces, where nature still reigns in a big way, and where wildlife still exists in large numbers. I lived my first 20 years in Vancouver in the 1970's when it was half the size it is now and it was clean, safe, and friendly. It no longer is, for lots of reasons. I have lived in Calgary a lot, but mostly live in the Rocky Mountain region beyond the city.
If the Bow is your favorite building I recommend looking into what it was initially planned to be. What was built is roughly half of what it was supposed to be.
I moved to calgary from Vancouver. It really is a great place. Yes it can be Cold but we get those unique Chinook winds that give us a nice warmth boost during the Winters. That's not that bad. Love it here!

@CityGeek I think at one point it was continuous in Calgary too. But maybe adding sections or changing buildings required separation. I remember a documentary decades ago where a couple guys secretly lived in in for months
I work downtown. Plus 15 are still being built every time a new skyscraper is built
@@drivecalgary6095 That's not true. Good grief.
We love Calgary! It's definitely growing and very multi cultural. Lots of green space and majority of the population are very nice and respectful. Calgary Stampede is must to see!
The library looks so cool!
Yeah it does look amazing!
This definitely is what I needed to be convinced to check this underrated city out… thank you brother. Have been enjoying all your content (new to the channel)
I installed many of those terracotta tiles on the bell center. As well as the cladding on the bow tower. The diagride columns is quite unique.
Im from Calgary and I think you video is very informative and that you touched on a lot of the important aspects/topics of Calgary I think you should’ve mentioned more about housing/schools/work places
Thank you! And thanks for the suggestion!
Je suis un Québécois, mais le Canada est généralement magnifique, c'est le plus beau pays ❤💯
Awesome video and channel!
Thank you very much!
That’s crazy! Thanks for pointing that out!
Wow are u serious!?
What in the chances
Only 111k sow this video and there is 1 billions users of RUclips.
Someone gets it.
More Canadian cities please!! Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal
Calgary is awesome. Little cows roaming downtown.
The 'Skyway' system in Calgary is called the 'Plus 15 System' as they are typically 15 feet above street level.
Totally agree! Have a look to my first experience in Calgary!
Watching from Karachi Pakistan
Yay finally about a city in Canada.
Im also happy for this new year because Im in Secondary School😊(High School for USA people)
My city!!! ♥️♥️♥️
Haven’t seen it in the comments yet but great pronunciation of Calgary. A lot of people get that wrong.
Thank you!
I’m moving to this city! 🇨🇦
Awesome! Can you do it’s rival Edmonton next?
I spent 8 wonderful years in YYC until last year and I'm already missing it... great video btw :)
Thank you!!
@@XxxXxx-fm3wo you articulated it PERFECTLY
Nice video. I'd like to see one on Quebec City and Detroit.
Great video! I would love to see a video about Macon, GA. A lot of history there
Thanks! Macon wasn’t on my list but I’ll add it now 😊
👍🌹❤️awesome info
Calgary looks so beautiful.
Love it! this one surprised me. How about a review on a city whose most popular restaurant is named after its skyline? Thoughts on Cincinnati?
I stayed 4 months at Silverado SW Calgary.Beautiful city❤
In addition to the NHL's Calgary Flames, Calgary is also home to the CFL's Calgary Stampeders, NLL's Calgary Roughnecks, CPL's Calvary FC, AHL's Calgary Wranglers and CEBL's Calgary Surge.
Nothing can beat Vancouver ❤❤❤❤❤
This is where I live . I love this city!!
4:43: On February 25, 2013, City Hall was approved the master plan to have the new library be built at the fore-mentioned location at Downtown East Village. The 286,000-square foot Central Library was completed on November 1, 2018, not in 2014.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE CALGARY AND I AGREE THAT CALGARY HAS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SKYLINES IN THE WORLD. ED IS IMPRESSIVE ALSO. I AM IN CALI BUT I LOVE CANADA VERY MUCH... WE ARE ALL AMERICANS FROM THE TIP OF CAPE COLUMBIA TO CAPE HORN. VICTORIA HAS TO BE MY MOST FAVORITE CITY IN CANADIAN AMERICA
Calgary absolutely rocks. I live in Edmonton, a hidden gem, but Calgary is much more stylish younger sister. 😅
This is a great piece, BTW. Calgary’s public art is exceptional.
I’m thinking taking a trip to Calgary in the summer time.
Go spring
Just a Beautiful Video
Thank you!!
Would love to see a video on Portland ME, Burlington VT, Manchester NH, Boston MA, Providence RI, and Hartford CT.
I’ve actually already made a video on Portland, Maine but I’ll add those other cities to the queue 😊
I think adding a quick section on public transport would be good. You'll be able to see how Calgary has better light rail then other NA cities of its size but lacks behind population centers like Vancover, Toronto, Montreal, not to mention is dwarfed by most European cities.
That’s a good idea! Thanks for sharing that feedback!
Wow, I’ll check that out! Thanks!
@@CityGeek yah was supposed to be 70+ stories but it would have cast too much of a shadow on the bow river ironically.
Love your little vids. Pls do some Australian cities 🙏🏻
Thanks! And thanks for the recommendation. I’ll add some Australian cities to the queue
I VISITED IN 2015, CALGARY FORT WAS AMAZING , THE WINTER OLYMPICS ARENA WERE ALSO WORTH TO MENTION
loved this 🥰🌸!
Thanks!
amazing
I always thought Calgary brought me closer to my dad's side and my passion as an actress one day
The New Central Library was actually completed in 2018, the opening was in November 2018.
job well done thank you.
Thank you!!
Awesome
Thanks!
I will come in Calgary as a student in September and after watching this video I realized that i made a nice decision
Awesome! I hope you enjoy your time there!
